You will be accommodated at Sivananda Ashram Yoga Farm in shared dorm, shared double, private room occupancy basis.
Pleasant, simple lodging can be booked as single, double, or dormitory-style for four with two bunk beds. Om cabins are placed in a peaceful and tranquil setting, on a gentle hillside overlooking the pond, and surrounded by the natural beauty of the ashram. Each cabin is furnished with a dresser, desk, nightstand, ceiling fan, and propane heater. Om cabin guests share a nearby bath house.
Nestled at the base of Siva Temple Hill and offering a beautiful view of the valley, these five cabins are Sivananda Ashram Yoga Farm's newest accommodations. They feature an outdoor porch, bamboo wood flooring and are built with high-grade materials, and can be booked for either single or double occupancy. Furnished with a side table, dresser, and propane heater. Each cabin has a private bathroom, including shower.
About 50% larger than the Siva cabins and located close to the central yoga halls, these extremely comfortable, spacious cabins are tastefully furnished and decorated. Watch the deer wander by from the front porch with sun shade. For your comfort, an air-conditioner, propane heater, and ceiling fan are provided. Furnishings include a desk, table and chairs, dresser or wardrobe, and a sitting area.
A small refrigerator, dishes, and cutlery are provided. Options for single, double, or triple occupancy are available. The Shanti cabins include private bathrooms with showers.
One of the main reason of stress is negative feeling and thoughts. Negativities are prevalent nowadays in busy, fast paced life. Interactions with others seem to be more negative than bringing comfort and joy. Minds are saturated and sensitivity numbed with overload information and the confusion and despair that come from local, national, or world news. In this atmosphere, it is difficult to access innate positive and joyful nature and remember the goodness of men and the grace of God.
Humans lost faith and doubt their path and worry about where the world is going and what will become of them. They need to see clearly and take a break from their busy life to recharge and reconnect with the beauty and meaning of life. They cannot change the external but they can change their outlook about it. They cannot redo the past and it is not helpful to worry about the future, but they can live in the solid present and make the best of it.
During this retreat, there will be workshops and lectures specifically on the power of thoughts, how to be in the present, how to turn negative feelings and thoughts to positive feelings, and how to manage stress and respond positively to challenges. Yoga psychology and philosophy have a wealth of techniques and information that will help you to cope.
The course will begin at 7 p.m. on day one with orientation and satsang. The course will end at 2 p.m. on the final date. Sivananda Ashram Yoga Farm encourages you to arrive by 4 p.m. on Monday, making the most out of the afternoon by joining them for the asana class and dinner.
In Sanskrit, satsang means “the company of the highest truth.” It refers to the company of a guru or company with an assembly of people who listen to, talk about, and assimilate spiritual knowledge. This typically involves listening to or reading scriptures, reflecting on, yogic teachings, or discussing how to integrate these into one’s life.
Daily satsangs are about two hours and are held first thing in the morning and in the evening after dinner. Sivananda Ashram Yoga Farm’s satsang is 30 minutes of silent meditation, about 20 minutes of chanting, and an hour talk, presentation, or performance by one of the teachers or many guest speakers.

This retreat will take place in Sivananda Ashram Yoga Farm, California, USA. It is situated in the foothills of California's Sierra Nevada mountain range at an elevation of 2000 feet. The historic gold mining towns of Grass Valley and Nevada City are nearby, and the city of Sacramento is an hour's drive away. The hills that make up the ashram land are populated by oaks and pines. The beautiful Yuba, Bear, and American rivers are nearby, offering wonderful hikes along the river gorges. Lake Tahoe is not far away to the east.

The price includes daily brunch and dinner. Two buffet-style vegetarian meals (prepared according to Yogic and Ayurvedic dietary principles) are served daily. Absent from the menu are meat, fish, fowl, eggs, garlic, onions, and caffeinated beverages. Though their menu changes daily, they usually serve a salad bar, a soup, a grain, a protein, and at least one vegetable dish, as well as oatmeal, yogurt, and granola at lunch. There will always be options for vegan and gluten-free diets.
During your free time, you are welcome to enjoy the ashram’s gardens and amenities, hiking or walking on the ashram land, studying or meditating at various temples, or just spending some quiet time in your room.
You can also do a one-hour contemplative walk on the Moksha trail, visiting the Siva shrine (climb 108 steps and enjoy an amazing panoramic view from Siva Temple Hill, the highest spot on the ashram). People's favorite trail starts from Durga Divine Mother shrine and ends at the Krishna Temple. The Peace Miracle Labyrinth is an easy energy-harmonizer providing a 20-minute meditation walk where you may find answers from within.
Please book your flight to arrive at Sacramento International Airport (SMF) or San Francisco International Airport (SFO).
Supershuttle is also available if you would like a direct ride to the ashram or to Auburn.
Take BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) from San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to Richmond station. BART is at the airport; it is marked well, but you can also ask at information and they will easily guide you. Trains run every ten or fifteen minutes or so depending upon the time. This is about 7 USD, purchase a ticket at the station. In Richmond, exchange to Amtrak for ongoing travel to Auburn station. They are both in the same station, BART is upstairs and Amtrak down.
Part of your travel to Auburn will be train, some bus. Give yourself at least 60 to 90 minutes between arrival at San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and departure from Richmond. Please contact Sivananda Ashram Yoga Farm to tell them your planned arrival time at Auburn, they will add you to their pickup list.
From Sacramento International Airport (SMF), you may take either YOLO bus (approximate cost 2.25 USD but will require a walk of six to seven blocks) or Supershuttle (approximate cost 15 USD direct) to the Amtrak station in Sacramento and transfer there (Amtrak fare is 16 USD each way). Please stop at the information booth at the Sacramento airport after arrival to inquire the options for this leg of your travel.
Please note that Amtrak offers bus service from Sacramento to Auburn. For this you will need to arrive at the Sacramento Amtrak station with a few minutes early and purchase the ticket there. Please contact Sivananda Ashram Yoga Farm at least one day ahead of your travel and advise your plans so that they may arrange to meet you when you arrive in Auburn.
