Swami Vishnudevananda founded this ashram in 1971. The ashram provides a residential setting where spiritual practitioners of all levels can deepen their practice through the study of classical yoga, meditation, and vedanta.
Deluxe shanti cabins and the newer siva cabins are available. Five have been built with more renovations of the standard cabins on the way. These cabins are furnished, insulated, and include private bathrooms. Options for single, double, or family occupancy are available.
Please note that the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Farm is a classical monastic yoga community and retreat. By agreeing this ashram to be your stay, you agree to abide the rules of the ashram. Brahamacharya (abstinence) is observed here. This means that Sivananda Ashram Yoga Farm maintains separate accommodations for men and women. Exceptions are made for married couples, couples in long term relationships (at least three years or more together), and for families staying together in the same cabin. No additional unrelated guests are allowed in these mixed gender accommodations.
There are deck platforms designated for tenting. You can bring your own tent and camp on the land. Sleep closer to nature in the fresh and open air. The cost is 50 USD per night per person.
Om cabins are pleasant and simple lodging which can be booked as single, double, or dormitory-style for four persons (with 2 bunk beds). The cabins are placed in a peaceful and tranquil setting, on a gentle hillside overlooking the pond and surrounded by the natural beauty of the ashram. Each cabin is named for a different virtue, such as happiness or contentment. Each cabin is furnished with a dresser, desk, night stand, ceiling fan, and propane heater. Om cabin guests share a nearby bath house.

Siva cabins nestled at the base of Siva Temple Hill and offering a beautiful view of the valley these five cabins are the newest accommodations. The cabins feature an outdoor porch, bamboo wood flooring, and are built with high grade materials. They can be booked for either single or double occupancy. The cabins are furnished with a side table, dresser, and propane heater, each cabin has a private bathroom, including shower.

50% larger than the siva cabins and located close to the central yoga halls, these extremely comfortable, spacious cabins are tastefully furnished and decorated and let you watch the deer wander by from the front porch with sun shade. For your comfort, an air conditioner, propane heater, and ceiling fan are provided. Furnishings include a desk, chairs, dresser, wardrobe, and a sitting area. A small refrigerator, dishes, and cutlery are provided. Options for single, double, or triple occupancy are available. The shanti cabins include private bathrooms with showers.

Discover your own personal constitution and learn the basic tools to keep your body, mind, and spirit in balance through diet, lifestyle, and other tools for healthy living. Sivananda Ashram Yoga Farm will determine what kinds of activities and changes in your lifestyle that can help you restore balance. This consultation includes detailed history intake, pulse and tongue analysis, as well as diet and lifestyle evaluation.
The talks that will be given revolve around topics, such as Ayurvedic constitution, signs of imbalance and balancing therapies, proper digestion guidelines to healthy eating, Ayurvedic lifestyle, as well as seasonal and daily routines.
To maintain the purity and spiritual purpose of the ashram, Sivananda Ashram Yoga Farm ask that all guests and residents follow the schedule of events of the daily program. Attendance at all satsangs and at least one yoga class is required. Please ask for guidance from the yoga teachers or the resident swami to facilitate your adaptation to the daily schedule so that you can more easily understand the principles and the philosophy behind the practice. Reception staff will guide you on the do's and dont's while at the ashram.
You are encouraged to arrive by 4 p.m. on the first day so that you can make the most out of the afternoon by joining the other participants for the asana class and dinner. Below is the daily schedule for this retreat.
Karma yoga is the yoga of selfless service. This is completely voluntarily and optional. As part of the ashram experience, all visitors are encouraged to join the staff (all non-paid volunteers) in this service during the daily scheduled Karma yoga hour.
Sivananda Ashram Yoga Farm is located near Grass Valley, California. The ashram is situated in 80-acre land in the foothills of California's Sierra Nevada Mountain range at an elevation of 2000 feet. The historic gold mining towns of Grass Valley and Nevada City are nearby. The hills that make up the ashram land are populated by oaks and pines. The beautiful rivers of Yuba, Bear, and American are nearby. The river offers wonderful hikes along the gorges. In addition, Tahoe Lake is not far away to the east.

Two buffet style vegetarian meals will be prepared according to yogic and Ayurvedic dietary principles are served daily. Meat, fish, fowl, eggs, garlic, onions, and caffeinated beverages will not be included in the menu.
Whether it's therapeutic massage, Ayurvedic bodywork, or Ayurvedic consultation, your investment in your own well-being offers a learning experience in tuning in to your body's innate wisdom.

This is a beautifully relaxing and luxurious full body treatment. The treatment includes abhyanga (herbal oil massage) followed by shirodhara which is a soothing and steady stream of herbal oil poured on to the forehead directly over the third eye that will calm and purify your mind. The last is swedhana which is a full-body herbal steam treatment that helps the oil and herbs penetrate the body, nourishing the skin, and removing toxins. Treatments are an additional cost outside of the package.
Please book your flight to arrive at San Francisco International Airport (SFO) or Sacramento International Airport (SMF).
There is also a super shuttle available if you would like a direct ride to the ashram or to Auburn.
You can book a train or bus service from San Francisco to Auburn station and they will have one of their staff pick you up there to bring you to the ashram. The Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) departs from San Francisco International Airport (SFO). Travel on BART to Richmond Station and transfer there to the Amtrak Station. From there, continue on Amtrak to Auburn Station.
You may also book a train or bus service from Sacramento to Auburn Station. You may take the airport shuttle to the Amtrak Station in Sacramento and transfer there. Please notice Sivananda Ashram Yoga Farm at least one day ahead of your travel and advise your plans so that they may arrange to meet you when you arrive in Auburn.
