During this retreat, you will be accommodated in the property carefully selected by Sadguru Yoga in Varkala, Kerala. The accommodation is simple, clean, and comfortable. Each room has an en-suite bathroom with hot shower, double bed, and Wi-Fi. All rooms are located within five minutes walking distance from the main yoga shala.


This 200-hour yoga teacher training in Varkala course takes ancient yogic knowledge and combines it with modern science, precise anatomical alignment techniques, and practical tools to use it in your teaching. The transformation that takes place on a yoga teacher training in Varkala is astonishing. During the month, there will be many changes and releases that will happen to body, mind, and soul.

You will be practicing yoga twice daily which will have incredible effects and the deep knowledge. This practice session will give you the opportunity for both - a practical grounding and a chance to open up the mind to new possibilities. Yoga teacher training course syallabus

At Sadguru Yoga, you will delve deeply into each and every aspect of true ancient yogic life. Each part of the course is interwoven to create a holistic experience thorough grounding in the science of yoga. During your multi-style 200-hour yoga teacher training course, you will explore various styles of yoga including Hatha, Ashtanga, Vinyasa Flow, Therapeutic yoga which focuses on alignment, adjustment, and injury prevention, and Restorative yoga.

During the yoga teacher training course, the aim is how to present yourself in front of a class, create intelligent yoga sequences that focus on good alignment, and to be ready to teach.

On course completion, you will be ready to guide your students through physical asana class and impart some of the subtler aspects of yoga within those sessions. You will leave with a deepened yoga practice, the tools to teach, and the confidence to dive deeper into your qualities as a yoga teacher.

Yoga philosophy

Yoga philosophy classes are taught by teachers who have a deep understanding of yogic philosophy, obtained through extensive studies and first-hand experience of transformation through yoga practice. Classes are taught from a scientific perspective whilst applying spiritual and philosophical values of yoga to modern day lifestyle challenges. Classes are always open to debate, often full of humor, and insightful alternative ways of thinking.

Yoga anatomy and physiology

Anatomy is the study of how the body is made up and physiology is the study of the systems in the body that help it function. These classes help build a foundation of knowledge about the human body. At Sadguru Yoga, you will apply a totally practical approach to anatomy. You will get to know how your own incredibly amazing body works. Classes will be focused on the bio-mechanics of the body, the structure, breath, and systems.

You will learn to apply this knowledge on your students in your yoga class. This part of the yoga teacher training course is central to keeping yourself and your students safe, working with injuries and deepening your own and your student’s yoga practice.

The art of teaching

The art of teaching or "Teaching Methodology" provides students with the practical tools for teaching. The focus of these workshops is how to make the transition from being a dedicated yoga practitioner to being able to hold a class of eager yoga students and inspire them, whilst ensuring safety and progress. You will learn how to present yourself professionally, gain the confidence to stand in front of a class and instruct yoga, safely, and inspirationally.

You will cover tips for speaking in front of a class, a range of teacher dialogues, how to deliver instructions, how to embody the qualities of a yoga teacher, aspects of running a class such as class structure, routine, teaching safely without injuries, anatomy of alignment both the theory and practice "Art of touch" encompassing physical hands on adjustment that will correct alignment and take students deeper into the poses.

Sadguru Yoga also gives you some top tips on yoga as a business with emphasis on remaining authentic and ethical. Most importantly, they will help you find your own style of teaching so that you can continue to develop into an outstanding yoga teacher.

Alignment, modification, and health benefits of yoga

Yoga with a therapeutic intention has been applied for thousands of years and is now fast emerging as a discipline in itself. These alignment based yoga sessions focus on each body individually. Each student is assessed and special attention is given to those with physical troubles.

Using belts, blocks, and props of all kinds, these sessions apply the bio-mechanical science of yoga to find variations, modifications, and special asana to overcome both minor and major issues.

Students are taught how to work with their own problems to overcome them, as well as how to apply assisted asana in the classroom with their future students. Students learn how to scan the body to assess and assist their own students with the aim to correct alignment, bring balance to their body, increasing well-being and vitality, and intentionally with dedicated practice to help to alleviate the body problems.

Hatha yoga

Vinyasa yoga

Vinyasa yoga, with its creative, intelligent sequencing and focus on the flow of energy (prana), has become one of the most popular styles of yoga in the modern world. Students will learn the various ways of creating sequencing for classes, incorporating flexibility enhancing and strengthening asana while placing emphasis on building a flow between poses.

Sadguru Yoga also explain how to bring in the correct language to use for subtler aspects such as pranic flow and themes such as chakra or intention. The breath is used as an anchor to the movement, which builds heat, assists detoxification, and creates a rhythm and flow to the practice. Vinyasa yoga is an important practice to learn due to its high demand in the current yoga world.

Ashtanga yoga

Ashtanga yoga meaning "eight-limbed yoga" as outlined by the sage Patanjali in the yoga sutras. Ashtanga yoga is in the tradition of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. In the primary series one, asana will be taught both in the traditional manner which remains true to the fixed sequence and also broken down and explained in detail. Ashtanga is practiced systematically and each pose prepares the body for the next building both strength and flexibility.

The Ujjai breath and set sequencing build and increase the energy flow allowing for the practitioner to practice in an almost meditative manner. The finishing sequence rounds off each and every Ashtanga and Vinyasa yoga practice. Systematic learning steps help you get a deeper understanding of this powerful and dynamic yoga practice supported by your breath.

Therapeutic yoga

Yoga with a therapeutic intention has been applied for thousands of years and is now fast emerging as a discipline in itself. Guru Mahi teaches yoga therapy sessions, which is his real specialty and his area of expertise. He has over 27 years of experience in the tradition of yoga for health, using correct alignment and props to assist individuals facing health challenges of all kinds.

Each course begins with a health check-up of every student. Individual attention is paid to students who have some physical troubles and special asana or supported variations are taught to them to overcome their problems. You will learn how to scan the body to assess and assist your own students with the aim to correct alignment, bring balance to their body, increasing well-being, and vitality.


At Sadguru Yoga, they teach both active and inactive meditations with ancient techniques for the modern person. Meditation allows the mind to become still, to allow oneself to become the observer of the mind free of conflicting thoughts. It is a process which helps to create peace of mind, clear thought, relieve stress, increase energy, create a positive outlook, and has physical benefits on the body too.

Upon completion of this yoga teacher training, students will receive certificate affiliated with Yoga Alliance. Registration with Yoga Alliance provides a globally recognized credential. Sadguru Yoga do not register the students. They are responsible for their own registration.

Guru Mahi
Guru Mahi is the founder and lead trainer at MahiYoga. He was brought up in a family who lived by the yogic tradition, the center of life was meditation and pranayama; therefore, focusing on the spiritual development of a human. Not only family members influenced Mahi on his way. He started to practice yoga in the abbey in 1988 with monks and swamis. At his center, he teaches the therapeutical effect of asanas and their adjustments. And this is exactly what allows Mahi to use yoga as a therapeutic way of healing people with various pathologies of the body.

You will be served three daily meals from Monday to Friday. On the first two Saturdays, breakfast will be offered.
