This Kranti Yoga teacher training course is a Yoga Alliance approved 100-hour comprehensive program that runs over for 2 weeks in the beautiful Patnem Beach, South Goa. Although intensive, the course is presented with a progressive approach to yoga. The course is a stepping stone to becoming a yoga teaching professional and the training itself will give you a solid foundation in Ashtanga and Vinyasa Flow yoga.

As part of the yoga teacher training courses, Kranti Yoga offers residential packages in order that you can make the most of your time with them. The spacious deluxe cottages are available exclusively for you. You have several options to suit your requirements as it is important to ensure that you are comfortable in order that you can relax and focus on your learning and development. Choose from either of the resorts, ocean view or garden side; decide on shared, single or double occupancy. You can even opt to upgrade to a beach front cottage.

Moksha houses 29 deluxe cottages, 10 of which are beach front and the prime location for the area. All these cottages have stunning views of Patnem Beach and are right next to the Arabian Sea in the shade of luscious palm trees. Another 13 cottages are located in Sattva, along with 6 4-bed shared cottages. These are amongst the mangroves and surrounding the original shala, the hub of The Yoga Village.

All of the cottages are fully equipped with everything you will need to make yourself feel at home. Each garden cottage is 28 to 30-square meter and has its own porch, hammock, and swinging chair. Here you can sit, relax, and enjoy a drink or snack from the on-site Indian kitchen whether you are overlooking the ocean or within the garden.

The Yoga Village is decorated with twinkling lights and colorful muslin. Swinging beds await your enjoyment along with many other cozy places to take chai, study, chat, or sunbathe. The choice is yours. Many of these places are fitted with fans to keep you cool during the midday heat.

Facilities also include washing machines for your laundry, beach towels, cleaning things for you to maintain your room and housekeeping services. Cottages are available on a single / double or sharing basis and dormitories are on a 4 person sharing basis.

The program is delivered in a modern, fun, relaxed environment where you will be encouraged, supported, and guided to achieve the most out of the course. You should be prepared to be mentally and physically challenged. Classes vary from physically vigorous, restorative, and also thought-inducing.

Course objectives

  • Develop your own personal daily practice (Ashtanga and Vinyasa Flow yoga)
  • Develop and practice a daily pranayama, kriyas, mudras, and meditation practice
  • Learn about the skeletal and muscular systems and how this affects your practice and your teaching
  • Study the Patanjali yoga sutras and learn how to incorporate them into your daily practice and life
  • Learn how to structure a class and then incorporate all these components into designing your own class (learn to teach this class to your peers in a small group environment and then you will teach this class to your peers as your assessment)
  • Asanas (led and Mysore style) and anatomy / alignment

The program offers a strong foundation in Ashtanga / Vinyasa Flow yoga. You will learn to concentrate on the correct alignment of the postures that make up the primary series with a focus on offering modifications to suit practitioners of all levels and abilities.

The course begins with a senior teacher guiding you through the full primary series with modifications while assistant teachers will support you ensuring correct alignment of each asana. These classes will be followed by two hours of anatomy and alignment classes where you will break down the primary series posture by posture allowing you to gain a deeper insight into how the body mechanics affect your practice.

You will have the opportunity to take notes, practice one-to-one with your peers with the support of your teachers. The aim is that you build on prior knowledge of anatomy whatever level that may be and leave with a greater awareness of your own body. During these classes, you will also focus on how to modify you own practice, identifying your weaknesses. The teachers will help you identify such areas and give you preparation techniques.

During week two, you will be ready to begin practicing by yourself; Mysore-style classes. The teacher will no longer lead the class. You will complete the series, together with your peers, with your own breath count and in your own time. You will be supported by your senior teacher and assistant teachers who will check alignment, help you deepen the posture, and adjust you if available. Self-practice is a great way for your teachers to help you personalize your development.

You will do pranayama (breathing techniques) from the first moment you step onto your mat. You will be encouraged to bring awareness to your breath. In Ashtanga yoga, the ujjayi breath initiates the movement from one posture to the next. You will learn to use the rhythm of this breath to progress through your practice.

In addition, you will also learn 4 further pranayama techniques that will help you clear your mind and improve your lung capacity plus a range of other mental and physical benefits. This is an important aspect of yoga that is often overlooked but should always follow a physical practice. Tutorials will explain the theory accompanying these breathing techniques, enabling you to practice effectively during guided classes. During these classes, you will also cover kriyas (cleansing) and mudras (energy seals).

Teaching methodology

You will start to teach your peers during the first week of your training. You will instruct each other on a one-on-one basis by breaking down the fundamentals of a yoga class. From here, you will progress to writing and delivering your own class. Each session, there will be tools provided for you to develop your teaching skills, facilitating you to build your own yoga class that you will deliver during the final week.

The teaching methodology sessions include opening a class, sequencing, instructions, relaxation techniques, corrections and adjustments, and modifications. You will always find this a particularly memorable experience as the majority of you will teach for the first time. Participating in each other's classes and providing constructive feedback for your peers is a great way to learn and this supports the ethos that learning is sharing.

Yoga philosophy

Classical yoga philosophy is interwoven throughout the program and you will be introduced to Patanjali's yoga sutras, allowing you to make your own comparisons of classical and contemporary yoga, posing the question: 'What is yoga?'

These sessions are a great time for philosophical debates and indeed provide a welcome insight into the views of your fellow students. Each yoga class will have a spiritual message that will allow you to understand how you can incorporate philosophy into practice. Hari Krishna will deliver a talk on yoga in Gita, a beloved Indian text from which many lessons can be learned.

The Kranti Yoga School Village is located in the heart of Patnem. It is a 5000-square meter area, having access to both the beach and the roadside. The village comprises of 2 campuses. Moksha (liberation or release) is the oceanview campus. Sattva (purity or reality) is the garden side campus. These places are located next to each other with Moksha situated right on the beach and Sattva directly behind it.

Patnem Beach is an appealing choice in South Goa and an ideal location for The Yoga Village. It has retained its peacefulness and natural charm despite growing numbers of tourists to the area. The beach itself is lined with bars, restaurants, and beach hut accommodation. If you are looking for some evening entertainment, you are not far away from the bright lights of Palolem. Palolem is only 5 minutes away from the shala and can be reached by rickshaw.

Kranti Yoga promotes a healthy diet and the food is freshly prepared for you daily. They consider proper nutrition to be a very important part of your time. Kranti Yoga wants to ensure that you are giving your body what it needs to support your daily yoga practice, health, and wellbeing. They have an on-site organic Indian kitchen with wonderful cooks who continue to delight you with their specialties.

The courses include all food: breakfast, lunch, dinner, and refreshments throughout the day. All meals are served as a buffet with many options for you to choose from. The dining area is in Sattva, the hub of the village. Enjoy mealtimes there with your peers or maybe dine on your terrace should you want a little quiet time. The kitchen is at your service and ready to accommodate all your dietary requirements, whatever they may be.

The food is strictly vegetarian and Kranti Yoga is more than willing to cater for vegans, lactose intolerant, gluten-free, and more. The kitchen is your kitchen. If there is something you need or crave, they will always try to help. If you miss a meal, the cooks will always rustle something up for you. There is never a need to be hungry. All the food is sourced locally so the menu will consist of seasonal fruit and vegetables. Local produce is organically grown and bought on a daily basis. Kranti Yoga also buys groceries from nearby stores in order to support the local economy.

At the end of the day, you meet in Moksha for sunset. After a full day of yoga, enjoy the sun setting over the Arabian Sea. This is a favorite time for both students and teachers. It is a blissful time to appreciate where you are, who you are with and what you have achieved. Chai, fresh fruit juice, and a range of teas are served throughout the day. Kranti Yoga has a coffee machine for you to make your own fresh coffee and Ayurvedic teas to help balance your dosha. Fresh fruit and nuts are always available should you need some sustenance between mealtimes.

The food is prepared with ghee as it is believed to keep the body well-maintained. Ghee not only helps digestion, it helps burn off some of the less desirable fat in your bodies. However, for some of you, you may prefer a lighter alternative. Kranti Yoga serves salads and lighter food. They also sometimes serve pasta with tomato sauce as it provides a welcome alternative to traditional Indian food. They aim to please and make sure that all tastes are catered for. Ultimately, Kranti Yoga always encourages you to eat healthily and hope that they provide enough information for you to make educated food choices. Your own self-discipline is crucial to eating healthily.

At weekends, you will have time to try the local cuisine. Kranti Yoga has a prime location on Patnem Beach where you will find a range of restaurants serving a host of tasty and healthy choices. You can choose from traditional Indian dishes or pick from a rich international menu that is widely available in most restaurants. The food in Patnem and neighboring Palolem is some of the finest cuisines on offer in Goa.

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Goa International Airport (GOI). Transfer from and to this airport is available upon request. Kranti Yoga uses experienced local drivers for the pickups and the cost to book with Kranti Yoga is 35 EUR each way. Alternatively, there are set price taxis available from the airport. The prices begin from approximately 2000 INR but may vary depending on A / C and time of travel.

Arrival by bus

In case you want to save money or want to experience local Goan transport, you can catch a bus from KTC bus station in Margao directly to Patnem Beach.

Arrival by train

You can reach Goa by train from Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kochin, Mysore, and Pune.

Goa airport and train stations have pre-paid taxi counters. Once you have reached the airport or the railway station, you can take a taxi directly to Patnem Beach. The prices of these taxis are set so you won’t need to bargain (1500 INR from airport and 700 INR from railway station).
