During this retreat, you will stay either in a shared or private room at the Pondok Pisang Centre. The center has beautiful shabby chic style eco-bungalows that have mostly been constructed using recycled materials. The center has a large and spacious yoga shala right by the ocean for all types of group activities. Pondok Pisang also has its own restaurant for you to enjoy.

All bungalows have hot water showers and are surrounded by a large tropical garden. All rooms also have garden and ocean views. Six of the cottages have one room upstairs and one downstairs. One cottage has only one room. There are single and double beds available. The detached, two-story, shared accommodation will be home to no more than three like-minded guests per cottage.

Give yourself a moment to ask how the year has gone for you, ask yourself if you are having the best year of your life or the worst, if you are so caught up in day-to-day living and demands that you really have no idea how this year is going but you are pretty sure your last year's resolutions were not accomplished. Take a moment to stop what you are doing and breathe. Doesn't it feel great?

Choosing this retreat means you have decided to make the New Year celebrations uniquely about you. You will spend your days nestled amongst banana leaves, coconut trees, the ocean, and a refreshing sea breeze where you will slow down, relax, reflect, and celebrate everything this year has blessed you with.

During this retreat, you will start each day with yoga classes along with meditation and pranayama practices. You will be guided through Hatha, Vinyasa, and Yin yoga asana classes in the breathtaking, open air, ocean-side yoga shala. The retreat will also include various meditation techniques such as walking meditation, chanting, singing bowl meditation, and adult coloring.

After each session to open up your energy, you will enjoy a healthy and nutritious breakfast to nourish your body as well as your mind. Prior to New Year's Eve, your days will be spent reflecting on how this year has been and performing ceremonies including fire to rid yourself of unnecessary baggage that you do not wish to carry with you into next year.

Because How Are You Really? Yoga Retreat is aware that this yoga retreat is also a holiday on the paradisiac island of Bali, this retreat aims to make you feel the true essence, spirituality, and culture of this alluring Indonesian island. With this in mind, this retreat will also include two one-day trips.

The first trip will feature a visit to the breathtaking Ujung Water Palace and an afternoon visit to the beautiful Tirta Gangga Water Temple, which includes a swim in the fresh spring water pool. The second trip will be to visit a very special spiritual healer in the nearby mountains who will perform a cleansing and blessing ritual on you so that you are ready to enter a new chapter of your life as light as possible.

New Year's Eve will be profound. You will start the evening with a cleansing fire ceremony and then enter the New Year's day in silence while sending your intentions to the universe using meditation and mala beads whilst being serenaded by 108 chimes from the sound healing singing bowls. The rest of the retreat will focus on positivity for the year ahead, which will leave you looking at the world in a brand new way.

How are you really? Yoga retreat will provide you with all the techniques you will need and a safe environment to rediscover self-healing, self-love, self-confidence, and trust in the universe. This way, even when life starts to wobble, you can keep perspective, balance, and faith in yourself and know that everything is unfolding exactly as it should be.

Practices

Yin yoga

Yin yoga is a slow-paced style of yoga where postures are mainly held on the floor.

Hatha and Vinyasa yoga

Hatha is the yoga of balance and Vinyasa is a flowing sequence of postures.

Pranayama

Pranayama is the control of breath to increase vital energy.

Nidra yoga

Nidra yoga is a state of consciousness between waking and sleeping.

Fly high yoga

Anti-gravity yoga uses belts as the main props.

Chakras

The chakras are the energy centers of the body.

Ayurveda

Ayurveda is the ancient Indian holistic healing system.

Reiki

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction, relaxation, and chakra cleansing.

Sound healing

During these sessions, singing bowls are placed on the body and struck, it is both healing and relaxing.

Mindfulness

It is the awareness of oneself and the world.

Day 1: Thursday, December 28, 2017

On the first day, you will enjoy a meet and greet ceremony at 4 p.m. after checking in. An introductory Yin yoga class will follow at 5 p.m. Next, you will enjoy a candle-lit meditation and a Balinese singing bowls session at 6 p.m. The activities will end with a healthy vegetarian dinner followed by free time.

Day 2: Friday, December 29, 2017

During the second day, you will start your morning with a yoga class featuring Hatha and Vinyasa styles. A pranayama and meditation session will also take place at 7 a.m. The activity will be followed by a healthy breakfast at 8:30 a.m. Then, you will enjoy an introductory session of silent mindfulness and self-love at 9:30 a.m.

Free time and lunch will follow from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. An Aerial yoga class will be next at 4 p.m. Then, you will enjoy a Nidra yoga class at 5 p.m. Next, you will enjoy a candle-lit meditation and a Balinese singing bowls session at 6 p.m. The activities will end with a healthy vegetarian dinner followed by free time.

Day 3: Saturday, December 30, 2017

On the third day, you will start your morning with a yoga class featuring Hatha and Vinyasa styles at 7 a.m. The activity will be followed by a healthy breakfast at 8 a.m.

Afterward, you will go out on the first trip to explore Bali. You will visit the local spiritual healer from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Next, you will enjoy a candle-lit meditation and a Balinese singing bowls session at 6 p.m. The activities will end with a healthy vegetarian dinner followed by free time.

Day 4: Sunday, December 31, 2017

During the fourth day, you will start your morning with a yoga class featuring Hatha and Vinyasa styles. A pranayama and meditation session will also take place at 7 a.m. The activity will be followed by a healthy breakfast at 8:30 a.m. Then, you will enjoy an introductory session of silent mindfulness and self-love at 9:30 a.m.

You will enter into a breaking silence ceremony at 11 a.m., followed by lunch at 12 p.m. Afterward, you will go to another excursion to explore Bali from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Next, you will enjoy a candle-lit meditation and a Balinese singing bowls session at 6 p.m. The activities will end with a healthy vegetarian dinner followed by free time.

Day 6: Thursday, January 2, 2018

On the sixth day, you will start your morning with a yoga class featuring Hatha and Vinyasa styles. A pranayama and meditation session will also take place at 7 a.m. The activity will be followed by a healthy breakfast at 8:30 a.m. Then you will enjoy an introductory session of silent mindfulness and self-love at 9:30 a.m.

A pranayama and meditation session will also take place at 7 a.m. The activity will be followed by a healthy breakfast at 8:30 a.m. Then, you will bid your farewell to the place and check-out at 11 a.m.

This retreat includes a visit to the breathtaking Ujung Water Palace, an afternoon visit to the beautiful Tirta Gangga Water Temple, and a short trek through the jungle to see a local Balinese spiritual healer. Visiting this healer will be the kind of unique experience which very few outsiders get to experience in Indonesia.

This retreat will be held at Pondok Pisang in the village of Mendira in Karangasem, East Bali. Pondok Pisang is the perfect place for a holiday retreat in Bali, nestled among the coconut trees with a private beach excellent for swimming and snorkeling.

During this retreat, you will be served daily breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The Pondok Pisang Centre restaurant has a commitment to your well-being and it is reflected in the choice of dining options. The newly launched vegetarian selection is the perfect choice for health-conscious guests with sumptuous fresh juices, delicious homemade salads, and Asian-inspired Western dishes all featuring on the menu.

East Bali is the spiritual home of Balinese cuisine and for this reason, Pondok Pisang created a second incredibly unique menu that reflects its heritage and the culinary tradition of the Karangasem region. A house favorite is a dessert which consists of black rice pudding with coconut milk and banana. For a snack, you may try the tasty fried bananas which are a perfect match with tea or coffee.

During your free time, you may explore the surrounding unspoiled area of Candidasa or stay in quiet contemplation on your veranda while the soft scent of frangipani flowers soothes the senses. Since there will be a perfect blend of activities and free time during this week, you will experience a retreat environment and also have the opportunity to feel like you have had a holiday.

You may try the many restaurants serving both Indonesian and Western food in Candidasa, walk around the huge Lotus Pond, which is situated on the Candidasa high street, or shop for souvenirs, antiques, and clothes along the main road, where there are many shops. If you want to have some me time, there are many spas which offer massages and other wonderful traditional treatments.

You may climb the many steps to the Shiva-Pura temple, visit Gedong Gandhi Ashram, which is Bali’s oldest ashram, where you can walk around inside and maybe even spend time in a workshop. Snorkeling, scuba diving, and even exploring through a submarine are great ways to see Indonesia’s beautiful coral and underwater sea life. You may also book a relaxing boat trip around the nearby islands.

You may also hire a guide to take you trekking around the many hills surrounding Candidasa, rent a bicycle or scooter, and go explore places such as the Goa Lawah Bat Cave, the Kerta Gosa Museum, or the Kusamba Beach, where you can see the locals salt panning.

The Pondok Pisang Centre also offers Reiki training for levels one and two where you will learn the ancient healing practice of Reiki to become a certified Reiki healer for an additional fee of 300 USD.     CONS No me gustó: The rooms, the food wich was to little and overpriced and also not very healthy even If it was vegetarian, the fact we couldnt choose our own starters and had to eat what the yogateachers husband orderd every day. The last days we didnt even have starters. The singing balls which was a Joke practically. To little food for breakfast not even juice. The fact that the husband of the yogateacher was around when eating and had bigger portions than the rest of the group even If he wasnt a part of the group really. The price of waterbottles in the studio we where offered to buy at 40000 rhp. In shop they are around 2-4000!! No water water in room either.

    PROS Me gustó: The location, the yogastudio, the views and some of the yogasessions and the fact that the yogateacher was kindhearted, the trip to the wateroalace was ok but the lunch should ofcourse been included concerning the price of the retreat.

    Respuesta del organizador: I'm truly saddened and confused to read this. I wish you had addressed your concerns during the week, they would have been so easily rectified. I will clarify the main points so future guests will be under no confusion about what we offer. With over 30 dishes to choose from and a fantastic selection of Indonesian and Western food it is some of the best food we've tasted in Indonesia and we have been here 4yrs! You choose your own starters and mains, these are included in the retreat package so I don't understand why you say they were overpriced as you didn't have to pay for any! Portion sizes are the same for everybody. Juice is available alongside breakfast. Water, hot and cold, and a selection of teas are available free of charge all week. We have never, and will never, charge for water. The water is kept in the Shala which you have access to 24/7. We sell empty, reusable, BPA free, water bottles to try to keep our plastic consumption down. We make no profit from them and you are under no obligation to buy them. We do also provide cups. This is all explained in the welcome talk. Such a shame you left feeling disappointed as this wasn't the impression you gave throughout the week and certainly wasn't what we hoped for.     PROS Me gustó: Que vous soyez débutant ou confirmé, Sarah est la personne idéale pour une retraite de yoga. À l'écoute, disponible, sensible et très technique, tous les éléments sont là pour progresser rapidement. Les groupes de petites taille sont aussi parfait pour créer des liens ce qui rends ce moment de partage encore plus agréable. Le lieu est agréable avec la salle de yoga à l'étage et ouverte sur la mer, pour une totale déconnexion. Grâce à cette retraite, le yoga fait désormais parti de ma vie, merci Sarah et Larry. Un bon anglais est toutefois utile pour vraiment profiter de l'expérience.

    Very creative and rich programme

    CONS No me gustó: The programme was a little too packed with activities, and I felt I did not have enough time and space for myself. Also, I did not like the room and the food so much. The sea in front of the hotel was dirty, so I swam only once.

    PROS Me gustó: The programme was full with all kinds of yoga, talks about chakras, ayurveda, and much else, and sightseeing in the area, especially the tour to water palaces exceeded my expectations. I also had a private reiki training. The view from the hotel and yoga shala was amazing.

    "The retreat has been excellent. Sarah is an amazing yoga teacher and a really enjoyed following her classes. Classes are accessible to all levels because Sarah always give many options from the easiest to the most difficult, which is great.
