Alojamiento

You will be accommodated at HIYA in Kathmandu, Nepal, away from the noise and air pollution of the city, the center rests above a lush vibrant valley surrounded by beautiful gardens, a local village, and a forest nearby. It is the perfect environment for spiritual growth.

You will have three options for accommodation: eco house with attached bathroom, Kailash bungalow with private bathroom, and cottage tent with common bathroom. There are a lot of facilities at Himalayan Yoga Resort that you can enjoy during your stay, such as dining area, garden, healing chamber, library, and free Wi-Fi.

HIYA Yoga Teacher Training Nepal Program

This 200-hour yoga teacher training includes 180 contact hours and 25 hours of teachings with an experienced yoga teacher.

Course syllabus

Techniques, training, and practice (100 hours)

  • Minimum contact hours: 75 hours
  • Minimum contact hours with the lead trainer(s): 50 hours
  • Prayer: Om chant, mantra prayer, and chanting
  • Jogging: subtle exercise, dynamic (warm-up) exercise, spinal exercise, and suryanamaskar (both traditional and integrated forms)
  • Satkarma: Dhauti, Basti, Neti, nauli, Tratak, and Kapalbhati
  • Asana (postures): meditative postures, relaxing postures, balancing postures, fitness maintaining postures, inverted postures
  • Body alignment in yoga
  • Yoga safety guidelines
  • Mudra, bandha, and pranayama (breathing ethics)
  • Yoga Nidra (yogic sleep) and dhyana (meditation)
  • Guided teaching practice

Teaching methodology (25 hours)

  • Minimum contact hours: 15 hours
  • Minimum contact hours with the lead trainer(s): 10 hours
  • Communication skills such as group dynamics, time management, and the establishment of priorities and boundaries
  • How to address the specific needs of individuals and special populations to the degree possible in a group setting
  • Principles of demonstration, observation, assisting, and correcting
  • Teaching styles and the qualities of a teacher
  • The student learning process
  • Business aspects of teaching yoga (including marketing and legal matters)

Anatomy and physiology (20 hours)

  • Minimum contact hours: 10 hours
  • Minimum contact hours with the lead trainer(s): 10 hours
  • Constituents of the human body: cells, tissues, organs, terminologies
  • The system of the protection and movement of bones, joints, muscles, flexibility, efficiency, body alignment
  • The system of the intake and elimination of raw materials (digestive, respiratory, excretory)
  • Communication and immune system, cardiovascular, nervous, endocrine, lymphatic
  • Spiritual anatomy and physiology: Pancha kosa, chakras, physical and spiritual Nadis, Kundalini power, etc.

Yoga philosophy, lifestyle, and ethics for yoga teachers (30 hours)

  • Minimum contact hours: 20 hours
  • Minimum contact hours with the lead trainer(s): 10 hours
  • The brief study of yoga philosophies and traditional texts: meaning, definition and history of yoga, biographies of some yogic Rishis such as Lord Shiva, Patanjali
  • Brief introduction of the yoga sutras, Hatha Pradipika and Gherand Samhita
  • Forms of yoga: Karma yoga, Bhakti yoga, Gyana yoga, Dhyana yoga, Mantra yoga, Hatha yoga, Ashtanga yoga
  • Yogic lifestyle: day regimen, night regimen, and seasonal regimen
  • Ethics: yama (social ethics), ahimsa (non-violence), satya (truthfulness); asteya (non-stealing), aparigraha (non-possessiveness), bhrahmacharya (celibacy)
  • Niyama (individual ethics), shouch (purification), santosha (contentment), tapa (tenacity), swadhyaya (self-study), ishwor pranidhan (self-surrender to God)
  • The concepts of dharma and karma yogic Aahara / sattvic food, rules of healthy food habits
  • Ethics for yoga teachers, such as those involving teacher-student relationships and community
  • Understanding the value of teaching yoga as a service and being of service to others (seva)

Practicum (10 hours)

  • Minimum contact hours: five hours
  • Minimum contact hours with the lead trainer(s): five hours practice teaching as the lead instructor
  • Receiving and giving feedback
  • Observing others teaching
  • Assisting students while someone else is teaching
  • Remaining contact hours and elective hours

The remaining contact hours (55 hours) and elective hours (15 hours, either contact or non-contact) are to be distributed among the five educational categories, but the hours may be allocated at the discretion of each RYS based on their program's focus.

Instructores

Dr. Subodh Simkhada
Dr. Subodh is the resident expert. He is a certified yoga teacher and a bona fide naturopathic physician. His other notable accomplishments include advanced training on different types of massage like Ayurvedic, Shiatsu, Thai traditional, and foot reflexology, acupressure, acupuncture, and Ayurvedic panchakarma training in Kerala, India. He also holds a Reiki master degree in Nepal.
Rajkumar Karki
Rajkumar got his master in human consciousness and yogic science from Gurukul Kangri University, Haridwar, Uttarakhand, India. He participated in a national workshop on yoga and alternative therapies in 2014 and 2015. He also participated in a national workshop on neuropathy in Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya.

The teaching training program will take place at the Himalayan Yoga Academy in Kathmandu, Nepal. Kathmandu is the capital and largest municipality of Nepal and is the gateway to tourism in Nepal. The yoga teacher training includes daily breakfast, lunch, dinner, and herbal teas. Organic, vegetarian, and vegan diets are followed as much as possible, using locally-grown fresh produce. Every guest will get a bottle of mineral water. Feel free to refill your bottle in the dining area.

Driving directions from Thamel

  • To reach HIYA from Thamel, go to Balaju Ring road till you reach Swayambhu (near three big statues).
  • From there, take the "U" turn to the right towards the Ichangu temple.
  • Travel 1.8 kilometers up to the VDC (village development community) office, then take a right turn again.

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM). Transfer from and to the airport is included. HIYA will pick you up from the airport.
