During this retreat, you will stay in Masseria Fumarola. The masseria is a traditional house topped with 11 trulli (the cone-shaped constructions so iconic of this part of the world) and puts you at the heart of rural Italian life. Located in the Valle d’Itria which is one of the prettiest areas of Puglia, the sun-splashed heel of the Italian boot, the masseria is surrounded by olive groves hide ancient fortified farms and whitewashed towns spill down the rolling hills towards vineyards and orchards.
During your stay at the masseria, admire the ancient oven and wrought-iron beds and sleep where the farm’s wine was once produced. Once a working farm run by the grandmother of the present owner Anna, and then converted into a hotel by Anna’s architect father, this family affair is a rustic yet sumptuous retreat. Each bedroom spreads across the main building and a scattering of outhouses are soothing and spacious, with sitting areas, flat-screen televisions, fireplaces under domed ceilings, and private bathrooms.
Outside are terraces encircled by chestnut and olive trees, a secluded pool that is large enough for laps, and an organic garden where fruit and vegetables are grown for the restaurant. It is a stylish slice of rural Italian life, a place to savor simple delights like dappled sunlight on your skin, a poolside siesta in the shade of a prickly pear tree, a glass of local wine at sunset, the chatter of birds from the masseria’s six-hectare wood of fragni (a variety of oak unique to this area), design-conscious decor, and amazing on-site cuisine that will make you feel like home over this week of retreat.
Daily meditation and yoga classes will be offered in a way to relax, stimulate, and help guests grow in their own personal practice. Classes are open to all levels, beginner to practiced, and can range from gentle, restorative, and more vigorous Vinyasa flow and Ashtanga styles. These classes will be facilitated by certified yoga instructor and EPM founder, Erin Lewis, helping each student focus on improving their practice and gaining new insights into their bodies and movements.
Style and class levels will be determined and moulded to fit participating students' needs, and with a small intimate retreat class size, students will be able to get personalized attention and comfortability to deeply explore their practice. Depending on each retreat location, classes will be held in a dedicated indoor yoga space and some also offer outdoor options as well for us to use if the weather is agreeable.
Besides daily yoga classes, this retreat also offers a series of mindful workshops that will guide you in the exploration of creative self-expression in your life. You will have meaningful discussions and fun activities intended to help you tap into your own inner wisdom and heartfelt desires. These workshops will be facilitated by Michelle Lee.
These workshops are expected to be able to energize and clarify your dreams, connect you with others and this world on a deeper level, discover powerful creative tools for the subconscious using journals, images, and affirmations, boost awareness of yourself and how you are creating your life, and change the stories and beliefs that are holding you back from having exactly what you want. Please note that participation in classes and activities is optional throughout the retreat.
