You will be accommodated at the Burren Yoga and Meditation Center during this holiday. You will have the possibility to choose from a shared room, a twin or a double room, and a single private room. The center can sleep up to 21 persons, but for the retreats, the maximum is 15.
The beds have been individually handed carved by their local carpenter Johnny Ray. The shared accommodation has bunk beds. These are not the usual bunk beds, the top bunk bed is hand carved and suspended from the ceiling. The lower bunk bed is completely independent of the upper bunk bed with plenty of headroom in between.
The mattresses are very high-quality orthopedic mattresses, with a top layer of memory foam, ensuring one of the most comfortable nights of sleep. The bed linen is high thread count Egyptian cotton and lovely to slip into after a full day of yoga, meditation, outdoor activities, amazing vegetarian food, and laughing and socializing with like-minded people. All the beds are freshly made up before you arrive.
You will be supplied with a bath and hand towel. All the bedrooms have underfloor heating and are warm and cozy even in the winter time. The center has four shared bathrooms, each with a shower, hand basin, and toilet and an extra toilet shared between the 15 retreat participants. They do not have any en-suite bathrooms at the yoga center.
During this retreat, your classes will be taught and led by Bev Porrino. Bev was introduced to meditation and energy work as a child by her mum who was a holistic practitioner. Prior to being a yoga teacher, she has worked as a nurse and as a social worker. She is a very kind teacher and will make sure that everybody is listened to and looked after.
The breath is very important to Bev and she will introduce you to using different parts of the lungs and will guide you to help breathe more deeply and easily and to incorporate this into your practice. She will explain how the correct one's breathing can increase the prana, inner energy, and she has an in-depth knowledge of the body and will make yoga accessible to all.
This retreat weekend will provide a refreshing, energizing yet deeply relaxing space through enjoyable Hatha yoga practice utilizing the breath and designed to bring you further on your own journey. The classes will begin with breath work and help you to get in touch with the breath and gradually leading into the gentler postures, to gradually help open up the body.
Some of the postures are quite gentle and encourages you to let go of trying too hard physically and to tune inwards to get in touch with how you are feeling right now in this present moment.
Bev gives guidance on correct alignment within the postures as well as bringing your awareness to the breath during the asana class. Drawing on her own experience from various different yoga traditions, she offers classes that focus on alignment, personal inquiry, release, and opening to what is there.
Each of Bev’s classes are well-balanced and there is a good variety of all forms of postures both gentle and invigorating. Some of the classes are restorative and involve some gentle releasing postures.
You will also practice supported restorative postures that facilitate deep, yet gentle release, and renewal on many levels. These Restorative yoga classes are great for letting go, and bring a deeply relaxed and nourishing feeling to all levels of your being.
Bev also teaches yoga Nidra which is an ancient practice which guides you into a very deep state of relaxation and the whole process is very powerful for relaxation and transformation on all levels. This weekend will be an opportunity to step out of the business of your daily life in order to reconnect with yourself and nurture your body, mind, and spirit with yoga postures, pranayama, and meditation.
The meditation is introduced in a very easy way for complete beginners and through practicing twice each day, each participant becomes more comfortable with the practice so that they can continue at home after the retreat. Bev will also teach breath-focused-awareness meditation and her teaching will be suitable for complete beginners as well as regular practitioners.
If you have never practiced before, by the end of the weekend you will have a range of different practices that you can take home with you in order to continue with your own daily practice, no matter be it 10 minutes each day.
