You will stay at SUPxscape, a 4-star accommodation, for the week. It is located alongside the Lake of Castelo do Bode in Portugal’s tranquil central region, set in landscaped gardens with natural planting. All bedrooms, lounges, restaurant, bar, and terraces overlook the Lake of Castelo do Bode. Spread over two floors, the bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning, personal safe, television, minibar, and room service. Outside, you will find the landscaped gardens, saltwater swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, as well as marked walking trails leading directly from the hotel.

Yoga and SUP make a perfect combination. SUP is amazing for your core and balance all by itself, and adding in the challenge of yoga postures will only enhance this effect. This retreat is suitable for yoga beginners or yoga pros, there will be something for all abilities in your SUP yoga classes and yoga.

Your day will start on the land, awakening the body and mind with a gentle energizing pranayama practice (breathing techniques) and a warm up, followed by a fluid Vinyasa flow yoga to synchronize breath and movement with a different theme each day. The yoga practice will be tailored to each individual, with various level explored within all postures, ensuring that everybody completes the class feeling positive, energized, and excited for the day ahead.

After breakfast, you will head to the water to discover the fundamentals of SUP which you will develop as the week progresses. If you are new to SUP, then you will be taken through the ASI level 1 flat-water program so that by the end of the week you will have completed all the skills you will need to continue to SUP safely with the correct techniques. For the more experiences SUP-er, this will be a chance to take your ability to the next level and with warm clear water you can really push your SUP skills to the limit!

The Academy of Surfing (ASI) SUP clinic level 1 flat-water program will get you out on the water to understand the correct standing, paddle stroke, self-rescue, and water skills needed to enjoy the sports to its full. The instructors will also help you to understand the dangers that exist in the flat water paddle environment, so that you and those around you are kept safe.

Once you have warmed up your SUP and yoga skills, you will paddle out to one of the many beautiful islands and explore yoga on the water. The SUP yoga practice will always start simply, with time to set intentions for your practice and to appreciate the stunning surroundings. Building on the morning’s theme, you will gradually develop to more complex postures, to enhance your balance, core strength, and flexibility, whatever your level is. The day’s activities will wind down with a blissful SUP savasana (relaxation) and a peaceful paddle back to the beach.

Helen has been teaching dynamic flow yoga in Maidstone, Kent since 2008. She loves sharing her Ashtanga-inspired passion with people of all shapes and sizes, ages and abilities, believing that everybody can benefit from a bit of yogic bliss on whichever level serves them best in their present moment. To deepen all aspects of both her teaching and personal practice, Helen spent the past year (March 2015 – April 2016) completing the 500-hour advanced yoga teacher training with esteemed teaching training school, Yoga London.
Sally Pereira
With 5 years experience teaching SUP from nervous beginners to those who are looking to take on more challenging conditions, Sally is dedicated to help everyone enjoy the water. Originally in mountain biking and not having any water experience prior to SUP, makes her a great instructor with the ability to empathize with others who may not be so confident in the water. Now enjoying SUP surf, down-winding, and longer expedition paddles, she is a great inspiration to others with a similar background.

Retreat location

This retreat will take place in Peniche, Portugal which is only 200 meters away to the beach, with amazing ocean paddling and SUP surf right on your doorstep. Along with some great coastal SUP-ing, they have two fantastic flat-water locations within 25 minutes. One of them is the Lagoa de Obidos which is a saltwater lagoon with lots of marine and bird life.

Nestled in the Portuguese countryside, this SUP yoga retreat is set in idyllic surroundings where you can enjoy nature and solitude. This lakeside location will give you a new sense of well being with private and tranquil islands to explore.

Arrival by airplane

You are suggested to book your flight and arrive at Lisbon Portela Airport (LIS). You can choose to fly with EasyJet, Ryanair, and many other low cost airlines. Ericeira SUP will pick you up from the airport. The pick-up is included in the price.
