Amazing experience thanks to Vanessa

This retreat was absolutely phenomenal, and I want to take a moment to highlight the incredible yoga teacher, Vanessa. She truly went above and beyond in every aspect, ensuring that every guest felt not only accepted but truly welcomed. Vanessa poured so much heart and effort into planning the retreat, and she was always there to listen to any concerns or feedback with genuine care. Her attentiveness, paired with her exceptional teaching and practice, transformed this retreat into something truly unique. Vanessa’s dedication and personal touch made it an unforgettable experience for everyone.

Very good instructors, friendly staff

I liked the yoga and the pool.

super welcoming

I was really nervous about going to a yoga retreat because... well... I don't do 75 minute yoga sessions every day. I LOVED how well the instructors tailored classes to the skill level of the attendees - with lots of options for advanced movement, but keeping a pace that everyone could keep up.

And the food? OMG the food was amazing. I'm not a vegetarian normally - but wow did I bring home some ideas about how to incorporate more vegetables into my regular routine! Every meal was delicious!

Beautiful lodge, excellent yoga, and yummy food

The lodge is super relaxing, all the staff members, and yoga teachers are awesome. I found the yoga classes really varied, and the instructors all excellent. The food was yummy and interesting, and the whole lodge is designed for maximum relaxation.

New life ever!!

Great Food & Staff

Instructors are more then just yoga teachers and have other expertise like massage, energy healing, sound baths etc they can offer you if you’re interested. The dogs were super sweet and would walk with you and protect you.

I will be back!

I had such a wonderful time at El Sabanero that I nearly cried when I had to depart. The moment you arrive you are greeted warmly by the owners and resident teachers. The lodge is situated at the top of a hill and surrounded by farms and countryside. There are resident cats and dogs that are very friendly and will jump in a hammock and lay with you. The style of yoga is gentle and was perfect to help me relax and unplug from work. The food is wonderful and fresh. You'll see tons of wildlife including monkeys, iguanas, frogs, and lizards! If you're feeling adventurous there are daily options for excursions or you can be taken into Tamarindo and enjoy the town and beach there. While I was there it was all solo female travelers, and everyone was kind and I also had a buddy to join me with whatever I wanted to do that day. All in all, this was such a fantastic trip and I can't wait to go back!

Incredible stay at El Sabanero!

My stay at El Sabanero was one of the best experiences, wow what an incredible place! El Sabanero has become my home in Costa Rica. This was my first time as a solo traveler and it was everything I could have imagined and more! The community Harold and Kurt have created is incredible. The place is beautiful, yoga in the shala with a view of the mountains and the sounds of nature is bliss! The yoga instructors are incredible I was lucky to have Jen and Lindsay for the first week and Sam for the last few days for afternoon yoga they were so kind and welcoming and their classes were incredible! Morning classes in the shala with Hector were the best way to start the day! I also did a Reiki session with Jen and if you’re lucky to be there at the same time she is I suggest signing up she’s so intuitive and is such a kind soul! The best way to describe this experience was Healing not only did I relax but I was able to heal through yoga, the community, acupuncture by the incredible Louisa, amazing massages by Anna and the breathwork class held by Kurt wow very powerful! The food was INCREDIBLE Donald the cook is a magician he made the best healthy food everyday! I loved it so much there that I decided to extend my stay! I met a lot of returning people so that just goes to show how amazing this place truly is! I could go on and rave about this place so if you’re thinking of going do it!

Pura Vida

I had a great time here and would totally take another retreat at El Sab in the future. The food was good and down to earth. Yoga was super chill, refreshing. If you need to practice more intensely on your own, the Shala is available to you. Everyone was really friendly and accepting, including the dogs who work to keep some of the wildlife away. Easy shuttle to get to the beach, and the airport transfers worked seamlessly. Altogether, as advertised. Had a transformative experience.

Soul nourishing

The best part of the trip was the people I met. There were women of all ages - mostly solo travellers, and a few friends who came in pairs. Everyone was so open and friendly. I was inspired by their travel stories and lives.

The food was healthy, fresh and sooo delicious. I loved the tropical fruits in the morning, and the soups in the evening. Every day the meals are different (except for breakfast). Chef Donald is amazing!

The yoga was very relaxing and more restorative than vigorous. There was a lot of emphasis on meditation and breathwork. I was introduced to some different techniques and yoga styles than what I am used to at home (I do mostly vinyasa).

I went on the waterfall hike excursion and did a trip to Reina’s chocolate for chocolate tasting and making. Both were incredible and memorable experiences - highly recommend!! Bring water shoes for the waterfall hike.

It was the perfect trip!!! I felt so safe as a solo female traveller, and never felt lonely. They were great about arranging drives to and from the airport, to the beach, or to different excursions. There was a lot of opportunity for socialization and community, and a lot of downtime to rest on my own. I highly recommend this experience!!

I had a fabulous time at El Sabanero!

What makes El Sabanero so special - besides the views from the pool and terrace - are the people who create the space and the guests they seem to attract. They create a community in which I trust everyone feels welcome. The onsite yoga instructors (Emma and Louisa) are some of the most wonderful people I have met. Harold and Kurt are so friendly and accommodating. And I made friends with guests while there. As a solo traveler it was as the perfect place. But couples, groups of friends would be equally happy. El Sabanero gives you a taste of Pura Vida. Not a slogan but a lived experience. I was sad to leave and shall return.

Relaxing and restorative

The overall atmosphere and the small, personal character of ElSabanero sets it apart. The food is AMAZING- Donald prepares fresh, creative and flavorful dishes with great variety. There are beautiful views, and the facility is quiet and peaceful. I LOVED the dogs and cats.

Relaxing and non judgmental

Every guest was really open minded and very respectful of each other. We all have different life stories and if we wanted we felt very confident to share. The location was perfect surrounded by a green trees, flowers and mountains. The pool area was amazing and also the dining area. Chalets not fancy but really confortable and clean.

Emma, yoga instructor, was an amazing women which has inspired my heart. She was very welcoming when we arrived and always there for us if we needed anything and went the extra mile to accommodate the group to experience the yoga on the beach, the night market and the day at Playa Coachella.

Must Visit!

The food made the experience! Everyday you can choose eggs any style for breakfast accompanied with flavorful rice and beans & toast if you so choose. Lunch and dinner was always a lovely surprise made by Donald!

The house host, in which the group and I loved to call him our Retreat Dad, Harold- always cared about our well being and made sure any tours we went on, our driver/tour guide was making sure we were safe and called him to get timing of arrival to see if we would be back in time for dinner so they could save us a plate!

It was a beautiful experience with fresh, clean water, air conditioned cabins and daily rides into Tamarindo for beach or shopping.

Wonderful retreat with everything you need to relax and ground into yourself. The staff is ultra friendly and available to help you have the experience you want amd need. The pool is gorgeous. The flexibility in the daily schedule is awesome. I loved my shared room because it had two separate spaces and still felt like I had my own room. Airport transfer was seamless!

A wonderful experience!

I enjoyed every moment of my time at El Sabenero. It is truly a special place. From the moment I arrived, I felt at home. Everyone was welcoming and friendly and went above and beyond to make my stay a special one. Kurt and Harold organized transportation to and from the lodge making is super accessible to reach. I enjoyed all of the yoga classes and felt there was a nice variety. Some classes were more challenging than others, but each teacher was good at adjusting to meet individual needs. Hector, Emma, and Nicole are all excellent instructors! The food was good when I arrived, but when the main chef returned on my last day, the food became a reason on its own to come back for another visit! The lodge grounds are beautiful and you can enjoy amazing views as you drink your morning coffee/tea, or swing from the hammock on your cabin porch. There were plenty of services and activities to help fill my time while there: beach visits, massage (Ana is amazing!), meditations, and lots more. I feel refreshed, relaxed, and absolutely at peace after my stay there. I hope to return one day soon and I’m so appreciative of everyone who helped to make my stay so great!

Special Place with Special People

This was such an amazing experience. I can’t recommend El Sabanero enough!! All of the yoga instructors are fabulous and I got to become friends with each of them through the course of my week there. There is a sense of community that is immediately established as soon as you arrive, which is entirely due to how wonderful and inviting everyone is. The property is beautiful and there are many opportunities to sign up for excursions— La Leona waterfall hike is a must do!! Harold is helpful and accommodating and was there to facilitate all of the activities we did outside of the lodge. He made our stay in Costa Rica stress free and only put us in touch with reliable/worthwhile guides/tours. I will definitely be back!! Thank you so so much to everyone at El Sabanero, I will miss you all (and maybe Marshmallow the most)!!!

perfect blend

El Sabanero is a perfect blend of getaway, yoga, adventure, and relaxation. It is a welcoming, warm, inclusive, and non judgmental place. I LOVED the resident cats and dogs, but you can easily avoid them if you don't. People of all levels of yoga experience were there during my week, we all benefited from each other. The food is delicious (chef Donald and the ladies are magicians); I brought snacks, didn't need them. Pick and choose excursions to go on (book once you get there, bring cash to pay for them). Or take the van to the beach, body surf, take a surfing lesson, or chill in a chair under an umbrella (again, bring cash, $20 for 2 chairs and umbrella for the day). Attn fellow pasty white people: this sun is no joke. Learn proper sunblock and cover up. Here's what's cool about a yoga retreat: people are chill, curious, non-judgmental, and accepting. I never felt lonely, never felt unsafe. This is a rural area: bugs and frogs happen. If that freaks you out, find yourself a sterile Club Med (BTW, the frogs are AWESOME and won't bother you, they're just there). You may see howler monkeys on morning hikes, or iguanas by the pool. You are invited but not obligated to yoga and meditation: if you need downtime, cabanas are isolated enough that you can swing on your porch hammock and feel like the only person in the world. Hector is a fabulous teacher. Harold, Kurt, staff : thank you for taking care that I had a great stay. El Sabanero is very special.

The lodge is in a beautiful location, surrounded by trees and views of the nearby hills. I appreciated the shuttle service to and from the beach/excursions. The owner also kindly drove me around town to help me find personal items at a store. The daily arrival/departure of guests made it so I always had new faces around me but also a group of familiar faces staying for a similar time as me.

Great yoga, but accommodation needs attention.

Erin the yoga instructor there until end Sept 2022 is amazing! She is spiritual, and offered breathing, strong classes, yin classes, Pilates whatever she felt the group’s energy needed. She is super helpful also taking me to the bank, the nearby beach and organising trips.

The food is also delicious cooked by Donald. Healthy vegetarian, homely food but very tasty and always sufficient, with fresh fruit in season for dessert.

The lodge itself is beautiful and coexists within a natural surrounding environment. The location is very convenient to Tamarindo, a cute beach town with lots of good energy. Paradise in the jungle of Costa Rica.

I had an amazing eight days stay in El Sabanero Eco Lodge.

The communication with Harold prior to the trip was excellent. The transfers from/to the airport went smooth.

The check-in and out was easy.

Everybody there were very welcoming and accommodating. I was pleasantly surprised that the cabins were air conditioned!

The view from the resort was breathtaking! The pool flowing over to a waterfall was a great touch. The landscape of the resort was very nice, with the flowers and palm trees and many beautiful yellow butterflies everywhere!

One day on the way to the yoga shala we saw a family of monkeys.

The yoga instructors Erica, Erin, and Hector were amazing! The morning and the evening yoga classes and the spiritual meditations after the sunset made this experience unforgettable!

All meals provided there were delicious! Donald surprised us every day with something new and better. One day he even baked a fresh bread!!!

Overall, it felt like a big family with the long talks after each meal at the big table in the dining room.

I even got my surprise birthday party! Harold purchased a birthday cake for me, which was super delicious, and my new friends sang a happy birthday song and presented me with the birthday card, with the hand written bday wishes from all of them. It was very touching.

I made new friends there, and came back home feeling energized and inspired.

Thank you, the El Sabanero team, for this pleasant and unforgettable experience!

Restful and rejuvenating!

What a special place - the property is beautiful and well maintained, the yoga is excellent and varied, the food is exceptional and the people are lovely! Being able to join anytime means people arrive on a rolling basis so there are always new friends to make, which is nice for a solo traveler. There is a nice structure / schedule that you can opt into or not, so tons of flexibility. The excursions are fun too and nice that the owner, Harold, arranges which makes it easy. Loved the yoga sessions with Erin, Erica, Jaime and Hector - always just what I needed! Highly recommend staying here to reconnect with yourself and rejuvenate!

Beautiful retreat to take some time out

Lovely accomodation with incredible views. Loved the hammocks on the porch for reading and relaxing. Rooms were cleaned every day.

Pool was very scenic and enjoyed resting there during the day.

Handy shuttle runs to the beach every day and appreciated Harold picking me up and dropping me off at my next location.

The yoga was fantastic and instructors were very knowledgeable. Also enjoyed the morning hikes and breathing workshops.

Food was out of this world!

Also loved the local animals popping in to say hello. Thank you for a great experience.

An amazing experience!

This place is magical! The instructors Jamie, Erin, Hector and Mariana were all excellent, offering different yoga based on the vibe of the students and the day. Erin’s breathwork ritual was so powerful. Morning walks in the jungle, amazing massage from Ana, i can go on and on. The best part i believe was the communal atmosphere cultivated by this environment. It felt like a home away from home.

Peaceful and perfect

El Sabanero is such a special place. The setting is incredibly beautiful, the facilities (pool, yoga shala, shared spaces) are really natural and simple, allowing you to enjoy nature and your fellow retreat-mates. The cabins aren't luxury but they are spacious and comfortable, and the porch was my favorite place. Each yoga session was unique and satisfying, and the FOOD WAS INCREDIBLE!!! Be up for adventure if you stay there, as getting around and planning your days may be a little unpredictable, but you'll have an incredible time no matter what. Stay open and ready to experience Tamarindo and the rest of the area and have a beautiful healing experience at the lodge and you will have the best time. I will definitely go back.

El Sabanero was FANTASTIC

I loved how welcoming everyone was from the beginning. Kurt made me feel like family and I was visiting for the holidays. A little piece of heaven

I loved everything about my trip to El Sabanero! Harold and Kurt, the owners, are both incredible souls. Kurt led a workshop that was life-changing (there are no words, you have to experience it!) and retaught me to love myself. Harold went out of his way to ensure I had a perfect stay, and when I needed to see a doctor, he immediately drove me around the town to find a place that was open. Even though I was only a guest for a week, they both immediately made me feel like I was at home.

Donald, the chef, prepared the most delicious vegan and gluten-free meals for me! My dietary needs have never been so well catered for abroad! And Erin and Erika, our in-house yoga instructors were both AMAZINGGG! Mariana taught one class on Sunday and I took the opportunity to do an Ayurveda consultation with her too - I'm already seeing the benefits.

The excursions are brilliant - I loved the adventure day and came back with some excellent pictures!

I have to say too, that as a solo traveller it can be daunting going to new places. Everyone I met on my travels made my experience so wonderful. It is no wonder that so many of the guests I had the pleasure to meet and make friends with come back time and time again.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend El Sabanero to anyone. Thank you so much for an experience I will never forget. A piece of El Sabanero is imprinted on my heart forever.

Amazing and fulfilling week - an adopted family

It was a wonderful and unique experience, mostly a function of the environment it was able to create. Small groups, like minded people, shared meals and activities really created a family atmosphere. Along with the wonderful staff and diverse yoga and other activities such as breathwork, meditation etc Special mention to a couple of visiting yoga instructors (Erin Boyle and Erica Rosenwinkel) who were phenomenal…also Donald and the kitchen staff for producing local foods at Michelin level tastiness…seriously better than any local restaurant. Well done to Kurt and Harold for creating and maintaining such a high quality experience. Accommodation whilst basic was clean and comfortable and the Yoga Shala was a magical place.

AMAZING! <3

Our stay was beyond amazing! The owners are adorable and knew how to welcome us warmly. The rooms were perfect, very comfortable, and the air conditioning was very appreciated. The yoga classes were extremely enriching and diversified.

The food was fresh and simply delicious. The Monday meditation gave me one of the most special experiences of my life. The location and facilities of El Sabanero are perfect: near the activities offered by the accommodation, near the beaches, magnificent swimming pool on site, hammock and very beautiful view as a bonus.

The people we met there also helped make our stay magical.

Honestly, I LOVED my experience, recommend it 100% and might go back soon!

Thanks for everything! <3

A Wonderful Experience with some Minor Bumps

I really enjoyed my stay at El Sabonero. My intention was to find peace and stillness in an otherwise crazy world and to also find like-minded people who sought the same. The food was absolutely fantastic and I met some wonderful people through a studio’s retreat that had mostly booked the resort (other than myself) and at the tail end from other solo travelers. I appreciated the free shuttle to and from the airport, as well as one to and from town and the beach each day. They also coordinated COVID testing for my return to the US which was much appreciated! The food was also FANTASTIC - I would’ve paid a LOT more for those delicious meals! The pool was also insanely beautiful and the tranquility was unmatched.

I loved my cabin...I was in #7. It had a great view, and came equipped with air conditioning and a fridge. I didn't expect to have any amenities. The food was delicious, the pool and environment was very well maintained, and the yoga classes were great. Also very friendly owners and staff.

exactly what I needed

I really enjoyed our entire experience! The shuttle to and from the airport was very easy and communication was excellent. The employees at the lodge were very welcoming and friendly. The lodge itself was very clean. I really liked the days schedules- plenty of time to do whatever you wanted between the two yoga classes. The food was excellent! I would go back.

Guter Entspannungsurlaub

Amazing vacation!

I went there for my first yoga retreat and had no idea what to expect. I met some amazing people, including the owners who were so kind and generous. They even went out of their way when a lady who was staying there wasn’t doing too well and couldn’t leave her room. They brought her all her meals to her room and even went to the store to get her things. These are things that you wouldn’t see anywhere else. This is a vacation I will never forget. It felt totally felt as though I was part of a family. The place is so beautiful and peaceful. Paradisiac. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to visit Costa Rica.

Absolute Empfehlung

Alles perfekt.

One of the best experiences of my life

I have travelled all over the world and done a couple yoga retreats in places like Australia and Fiji. Nothing beats the energy and the people of El Sabanero. All the staff radiates kindness and we created a family from the guests who were visiting. Highly recommend for any young (or old!) solo traveling yogis that want a transformative experience!

El Sabanero did not disappoint!

El Sabanero yoga retreat was an amazing combination of outstanding yoga, over-the-top Costa Rican adventures, delicious vegetarian food, and perfect relaxation! My friends and I enjoyed meeting new like-minded friends, practicing yoga twice daily, and relaxing in the infinity pool overlooking the jungle. We spent time in the beach town of Tamarindo and on the gorgeous volcanic beach, where local merchants spread their wares on your beach chairs for personalized shopping! We went zip lining over the jungle, tubing down the rapids, and horseback riding at a working farm. It was an authentic, incredible experience that I highly recommend!

Amazing first solo trip!

Traveling to El Sabanero was my first experience traveling alone. I was both nervous and excited. Upon arrival to the lodge, my nerves were immediately put aside. The staff at El Sabanero is absolutely incredible. Everyone I met was so welcome and loving. The yoga and meditation was something I looked forward to everyday and it exceeded my expectations. The accommodations were perfect: clean, private and relaxing. Although I am not vegetarian, the food was absolutely delicious and I was never left hungry. The pool area and views of the mountains were stunning. There are many different excursions to book as well. Surfing at Playa Tamarindo was my favorite. I highly recommend El Sabanero to anyone who is looking for a relaxing, rejuvenating and fun adventure! Thank you to Harold, Kurt, the wonderful staff, and my new friends for an unforgettable experience. I will be back!

Charming and full of heart! And the FOOD OMG!

You will fall in love with this rustic, gorgeous place. The people care and are full of heart. The lodging is simple & back to nature (love the hammocks everywhere). The yoga is LOVELY. And the FOOD IS OFF THE CHARTS! Donald is an incredible chef that creates colorful, heathy TASTY food. Maybe some of the best consecutive meals of my life!!!

And the charming brothers that own the place. Just love them.

Amazing little getaway

Wonderful yoga instruction in a beautiful location, the yoga shala was light and breezy in a perfect setting with jungle and mountains in the backdrop. Kurt and Harold were super friendly and helpful in ensuring we had the best stay, maximizing our time to fit in surfing, beach trips, and excursions between yoga sessions. It was action packed and yet so relaxing at the same time!!

The yoga instructors were amazing, each brought a different and unique style to our practice which was much appreciated - we learned a lot from each session.

It was also wonderful to meet and share the whole experience with the other guests at the lodge during communal meals and yoga practice.

Amazing stay at El Sabanero Eco Lodge

Everything was perfect! This place is paradise! From the beautiful scenery of palm trees to the infinity pool to the yoga and delicious food. Everything was spectacular! I will say my favorite part was being in a nonjudgmental and noncompetitive space. It made it so freeing and easy to connect with the other yogis and create amazing heart-centered connections.

The program is very solid with two yoga classes in the AM and PM; all meals included plus the beach shuttle. This is seriously a dream trip that you won't regret. I am already excited to go back.

The staff is so kind and helpful. Kurt, Harold and Fernando really go above and beyond to make your stay as perfect as possible. And it's very easy to do with the set up they have. 5 stars!

The property was amazing with porch hammocks and the food was exquisite!! Can't say enough about the chef!! Yoga instructors were seasoned and offered different styles which I prefer. Lovely place with great owners, Costa Rican beauty, a-mazing food!, and great yoga instruction. There was a real sense that the staff and owners were fully invested in our experience and there to help us find and connect to wonderful outings, eat healthy and soak in the sun and self soothing, and have wonderful yoga classes. Perfect relaxing retreat!

The location was stunning and accommodations were perfect!!! I loved getting to meet and chat with the owners, yoga instructors and other travelers. This was my first time out of the country by myself and I felt extremely safe the entire time. The food was very fresh and tasty, I looked forward to every meal. It was so fun to explore the close by town and beach in Tamarindo and Kurt was very helpful in setting me up on another excursion to the rainforest for a day. The yoga was also amazing. I felt extremely rejuvenated after my trip. I highly recommend El Sabanero Eco Lodge and hope to be back soon !!!

Just what I needed!

From start to finish the entire experience was exactly what I was hoping for! The resort is beautiful. The food was phenomenal! I am a very picky eater and was very hesitant about the Vegan menu, but I ate seconds on every meal. My diet plan on this vacation did not work out because Don is an incredibly talented Chef. Hector was the morning yoga instructor, he was great. Very flexible to everyone's needs, and just created a great experience all around. Sabine taught the evening classes, she was amazing. Honestly so intuitive to her students and just an incredible person to meet all around. The taxi from the airport was nice, plus daily rides available to the beach. Plus the views from the resort were breath taking. Honestly worth ever penny! Ohh and private cute room with my own porch and hammock with a view. So perfect!

Peaceful yet so much fun!

Meeting staff and making friends. The yoga instructors and classes were all adapted to my level and each instructor was gracious in changing things to accommodate my "beginner" traits. El-Sabanero is one of a kind. Food excellent, cleanliness of our cabins was done daily. I travelled alone to this yoga retreat, yet never felt alone. Always meeting new people, coming and going. Such a welcoming environment filled with people with kindness. I would recommend El-Sabanero to anyone at all. Hope to go back!!!! Miss all of you! Nancy Boudreau - Toronto, Ontario CANADA

Peaceful place

I am a single woman traveling on my own. I picked El Sabanro because they pick you up from the airport and take you back .

I loved the natural beauty of everything. I haven’t connected this close with so many great people since I was a young teenager . The yoga and meditation was magical. Ana is a wonderful masseuse . The beaches are beautiful. I will definitely return !!!!

Overall a good experience, but improvements could be made

I liked the low key, flexible flow of each day. Yoga in the morning followed by doing whatever you wanted during the day. Excursions were fun (pretty spendy). Loved getting massages by Ana. The little town was walkable and had a handful of restaurants and bars that play live music almost every night. Close to the beach—this is only if you’re staying at the Hotel Isolina location. Harold was accommodating and transported us to Tamarindo since we didn’t have the daily shuttle option like the lodge. Overall my experience was good.

Good food, good practice and good friends

I like the food. It was healthy, fresh and delicious every single meal. Breakfast was the same everyday so by the 6/7 th morning, it was less interesting however it had nutritious and healthy choices. I liked the room itself. Functional , clean and rustic. I liked the intimacy of buildings and each had its own balcony and hammock! The pace of the day was not overwhelming and we had great shuttle service all week. Pick up Times were respected most of the time but the Thursday night market was extra travel service and not communicated to us ... I liked that donald, the cook, actually sang in the kitchen when he cooked , it was great to see such a free spirited preparing out food. I liked his food choices as well, every day was a surprise! I liked the choices of outings we were given to choose from. I felt they were a little expensive but really really fun. I felt this place was very very friendly! I would come back!

Great facilities, food, and people.

The facilities and sense of community were fantastic. The main cook, Donald, is partially responsible for my 5 pound weight gain this week in spite of hours of exercise every day. Rides to the beach and activities were easily arranged and usually free. The pool is beautiful and there was usually an iguana or two hanging out on the edge.

Cabin was adequate, the setting was beautiful , the lodge was very nice but rundown and in need of attention and repair. The kitchen staff and native workers on the premises were honest and hard working. The yogi volunteers were young, enthusiastic and kind.

Excellent vacation

El Sabanero is not a Resort. It’s an eco lodge and accommodation here is basic. It didn’t bother me at all. My vacation here was just excellent! Great yoga instructors: Hector is very professional and creative. Ashton is very intuitive and attentive to people’s needs. She made everybody’s stay very comfortable and worry free. Donald is excellent cook!

The lodge is comfortable and tranquil. Trips to local beaches are offered daily. There are also various excursions. I’d really recommend the Adventure tour.

Donald “Jack Sparrow” was an amazing cook. The family-style eating brought everyone together. Ashton made everything so welcoming and made everything run so smoothly. She also did fantastic evening yoga. There were daily excursions to Tamarindo beach which was only a 20 drive . I would also highly recommend the adventure day to cañon de la vieja !!!. The whole experience was very refreshing and a great renewal of peace and tranquility.

Lovely place, wonderful people, highly recommend!

This is the first time I have done a yoga retreat and the bar has been set high for any subsequent yoga retreats I will attend.

The lodge and accommodations are clean, charming and full of character. I loved seeing iguanas and monkeys right outside of my door. There are also nice views from the pool and the shala which made the evening sunset yoga classes extra special.

The food was delicious. Instructors were outstanding and friendly. They often attended outings with us and joined us at the beach. There was a very welcoming community vibe to our group. The local beach is vibrant with lots of cafes, bars and shops. There are also a number of day trips to participate in nearby, all of which were very fun!

El Sabanero is a very special place, I will recommend it to anyone looking to do a yoga retreat and I hope to be back for another visit!

Fantastic week in paradise with great people

The yoga was a great mix of styles and pace based on how the people attending were feeling . Hector and Anushka really mixed it up for us!

The food was amazing Donald is such great chef . Beautiful ,mainly, vegetarian dishes with loads of variation.

The location and resort facilities were just as expected . The lodge is 15 mins from Tamarindo beach by shuttle. You can also arrange go to “Haralds Beach” which is much quieter and has the lovely Lolas restaurant if you feel like a lunch out.

Our room was clean and comfortable , we had access to wifi in both the common area and our room .

The housekeeping staff visited daily and made the room up.

The pool was clean and refreshing after a day at the beach or before afternoon yoga .

Harald and the team were really responsive to any questions or issues we had .

You could choose to just chill and do yoga or do as many extra activities as you liked , which the staff could help you organise.

We had a lovely week focussed mainly on yoga and the beach and meeting some really lovely people from all over the world.

Would definitely recommend!

I had been travelling trough Guatemala & Costa Rica for 3 weeks and I had booked this stay as a reward for a pretty tough year. Well, the week here (I extended my stay) exceeded my expectations: the owners are incredible and they make you feel at home from the very first moment, the food is amazing and I was lucky enough to meet the most amazing people there (mostly solo travellers). This was a wonderful place to get away and unwind. The three meals a day are freshly made and always delicious. I love the breakfast spread after morning yoga and the coffee is amazing! You could only do the twice a day yoga and relax by the pool if that suits you. Or, if you feel like adventure there is always travellers arriving that are willing to do tours. The Owner Kurt was charming, kind and funny. He went out of his way to ensure we were having a great time, from providing ride to all the places we wanted to go, to personally checking with all guests if there was anything that we needed or wanted, he would said Yes with a smile! The Yoga Instructors: Hector, Vivi and Agni were amazing! They each incorporated different styles of yoga, and individual attention to different levels as well as health conditions. The Meals were varied and deliciously prepared by Chef Donald! The place is cozy and provide plenty of choices for activities and/or relaxation. The view from the cabin was breathtaking! overlooking the mountains, the trees, and listening to the animals sounds to sleep and awake. A wonderful stay for body and soul

I liked the family feel of the whole place, from the managers who did their utmost best to make everyone feel welcome and comfortable to the yoga teachers that were considering each participant's individual needs and experience. I also liked that the guests were predominantly solo travellers. There was a schedule with things to do every day (including yoga twice a day), of course all optional, yet there was enough time to chill and find some alone time either by the pool or on the beach (free shuttles provided). One day we even did yoga at the beach, which was good fun. The lodge also offers tours to explore the area with an experienced and safe driver. As a 30 year old female I never felt unsafe travelling alone.

Perfect relaxation vacation

I was traveling on my own so was looking for a relaxed and welcoming setting. I enjoyed the people I met there the most. The pace at El Sabanero was perfect. The schedule was pretty much the same every day with lots of extra options for those looking for more adventures. I was in the mood for yoga, beach, pool and rest so didn't partake in other activities but did enjoy a couple of massages from Anna, right on the premises. The food was healthy, very fresh and tasty. The yoga was excellent - I am a certified instructor and thoroughly enjoyed the variety offered by Hector, Vivi and Sonia. Kurt even encouraged me to teach a Zumba class to the other guests! The infinity pool was relaxing and the grounds are lovely. Peaches the cat is very sweet too. I totally plan to come back next September/October.

Yogis... don't miss out!

The atmosphere at El Sabanero is unique! It feels like home, safe and welcoming. Beautiful facilities for practicing yoga, self-care, and to get some distance. The activities are optional and you will have the option of taking it really easy or spend the day at the beach relaxing while drinking some coconut water. it really is up to you! Definitely recommend it for anyone looking for a self-lead yoga retreat The teacher are fantastic, quickly figuring out how to make each class accessible/challenging for each student no matter your level. I had the opportunity to move through smart progressions with their guidance to reach new deepness.

Kurt and Harold are wonderful hosts, they will take care of you and by the time you leave, it will feel like you have a home in Costa Rica that is there waiting for you to come back. There is a cute kitty named Pichi, and she is the friendliest cat, she will join you on the hammock and you will have no choice but to put her while she purrs away.

The food was very good! Breakfast is the same every day but lunch and dinner are always different, its home made food that will make you feel nourished.

If you are going to El Sabanero, you want to fly yo Liberia (not San Juan) for a transfer that takes about one hour from the airport to the location. If you make the mistake of traveling to San Juan, you're trip to El Sabenero will be about 5 hours by car.

Heaven Awakening!

I felt like Family the moment I arrived. Family meals together. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. Food was fantastic and the yoga classes were all great. Each one very different which made me want to do them all! I am a beginner and they were patient and helped with the positions.

Grateful for El-Sananero

The perfect place to get away from the busy-ness of life and reset physically, mentally and emotionally. Daily yoga classes at 7am and 5pm in a free standing, open air yoga Shala. Meditations and a silent morning walk available (with Howler monkeys in the canopy!) Incredible meals prepared fresh, on-site to be shared at table with all the guests in the main lodge 3 times a day (alcohol not served/but also not missed!) Private, rustic (air conditioned) cabins with a hammock for relaxing. Daily transport from lodge to Tamarindo beach (20 min away) for half/full day available after breakfast. Home in time for pm yoga and dinner :) Some of my favorite moments were in the shuttle btwn lodge and beach getting to know our hosts and other guests along the way.

I visited as a solo 40-something female and felt completely safe/accepted at all times. Like-minded people, of all ages, arrived/departed daily, hailing from around the world and every one of them became a fast friend over 3 shared meals a day. Proprietors (Kurt, his partner Karen and brother Harold) and the other guests formed a new little family each day. It was an amazing experience coming together like that.

The best time at El Sabanero

So it made me select random instructors that weren’t actually there but Kurt the owner was SO hospitable. The food was amazing. Hector and Tiana the teachers made sure each class was different and both mentally and physically challenging. I will go back 100%

The perfect retreat

I am not sure what there is to not like. I loved the yoga classes, the food, the people, the ambiance, the hammock on the balcony, the meditation classes, the owner Kurt, the shuttle to town everyday to go to the beach or shop. It was my first yoga retreat and definitely will not be my last time visiting El Sabenero. Kurt really takes care of the guests at the lodge to make it the best experience for everyone. The food was amazing!! I am very happy with my stay, I left feeling relaxed, recentered, and rejuvenated which was my purpose in the retreat.

Brooke :-)

I loved everything about this retreat! It was perfect. I felt welcomed and loved. Had the opportunity to go out and do activities if I wanted or stay back at El Sabanero and relax and revitalize (though they offer plenty of activities there, from meditation to two classes a day to silent walks...). I met incredible people--the group who was there at the same time I was connected in a very special way and we had an absolutely terrific time together. We hung out but also recognized that people needed time alone as well. Costa Rica is a precious place--the sounds, smells, sights, people, community, language, food, culture! This was my first time to the beautiful country and I will be back sin duda!

The food at the resort was amazing! Everyday the menu changed and the food was delicious. I assumed that I would have been alone or lonely on my trip but I connected with the group instantly and made life long connections. I brought a book with me but didnt read a single page. The yoga and meditation practices were great always different and challenging and restorative at the same time.

The location, warmth of the staff and the excellent yoga instructors made this mother daughter experience exceptional! We never wanted to miss Hectors class in the morning and Heather’s in the evening. And Fernando our driver took excellent care of us on our all day excursion. We met so many wonderful people... would definitely return!!! Loved every minute of Costa Rica, the people, the town and beach and of course El -Sabanero!!!

Such an amazing experience!

The yoga teachers are incredible, I learned so much for deepening my own practice. Carrie, Sevene, Hector and Vivi were the teachers I had, every class was different and so enjoyable! The food was so delicious and fresh, Donald and Hazel do a great job of changing the menu every lunch and dinner and accommodating to dietary needs. Breakfast of fresh fruits, Costa Rican coffee, eggs and rice and beans was always a great way to start the day. The location is beautiful with a long trail you can walk on, lots of monkey families, the rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable and the communal space is so open and inviting. The masseuse is such a lovely human, best massage I’ve ever gotten, very well rounded and so relaxing. You can choose to go to the beach and town/excursions or stay at the lodge, the beach is perfect and the town is great for shopping and hanging out. I feel rejuvenated and loved. So grateful!

I woud recommend this retreat; I would rate it a 9 out of 10

The property is beautiful, it is really well appointed with comfy Adirondack chair, hammocks and lounge chairs. The yoga and meditation instructors are absolutely priceless. They clearly have years of experience and are open and loving to all. My husband and I both learned so much during our retreat and look forward to returning sometime.

Also, the food is incredibly delicious! Fresh and tasty.

Practice for everyone!

I really liked that all the yoga instructors were very prepared and very experienced - you could see how they walked into the space or were already sitting there upon our arrival, felt the group's energy level as well as level of practice and offered a practice that was suitable for all of us: many times offering the same asana in different versions of difficulty at the same time. This type of flexibility was especially important, as the group members changed all the time- this retreat is not working with a fix group, but you can join in for 3 days, 6 days, or as many days as you like. We have spent 10 days at El Sabanero and practiced twice a day, and my practice as a result has definitely arrived to a new level of consciousness and ability.

Relaxing with Yoga

My week at El-Sabanero was an excellent experience. The yoga classes were led by instructors who were friendly, caring, and very approachable. Having a yoga session at 7 a.m. while looking out at the mountains, and an evening session at dusk could not have been better timing to detox body and mind. The students brought much diversity to the class, from young professionals to married couples to single women; varying ages that mixed wonderfully well. Meals, shared at a communal table, only confirmed how well all ages mixed. I especially liked the cozy cabins which one could share with a roommate or be by oneself. Nothing like swinging on a hammock watching the stars on your front porch. The resort is situated on a hill, and the view from the infinity pool is breath-taking. Our genial host, Kurt, was always available to answer questions and to drive early morning groups to the beach town. I highly recommend El-Sabanero for the great yoga sessions, for its friendly instructors, staff, and guests, all of whom mingled most congenially.

Loved the rhythm of el-sabanero eco lodge

The yoga was great - tougher classes in the morning with Hector were challenging but fun. More restorative classes in the evening were a perfect end to the day. The yoga classes in the open air were beautiful.

The food was a real highlight - Donald was an inspired chef and the food was delicious and interesting at every meal. He cooked a lot of vegan dishes which were perfect for several of the yogis.

The family style eating fostered a really strong sense of community and strong bonds were developed quickly;

Curt was an attentive and gracious host - and the shuttling back and forth to the beach was great.

Amazing Experience in This Magical Place

Well it's been said many times in many other reviews but the food here is spectacular. Every meal seems better than the last and you just keep wondering how Donald can continue being so masterful at his art of cooking. My favorite yoga classes were with Hector and Sabine, in their own ways they transform your way of approaching yoga. Thanks to their teachings I enjoy the moments throughout my practice rather than just considering it another thing to accomplish in the day, for that I will be forever grateful to them both. The property is beautiful, the pool is a wonderful place to hang out and relax and the open air yoga studio is a wonderful experience. The transfers to and from the airport were really a wonderful perk to staying here and the all day adventure tour (ziplining, horseback riding, river tubing and mud baths) are a must for people of adventurous spirit. The cabins are somewhat rustic but give you all the creature comforts you could need. Mealtimes became one if my favorite things not only for the as previously mentioned amazing food, but because each night you meet new people. Since this retreat allows visitors to come and go as they please without putting a rigorous set date and time to arrive and leave, it is a constant revolving door of newcomers. It may be somewhat awkward the first few meals being the newbie of the group, but just give it a few days and you will be the one with all the knowledge. Truly a remarkable experience, one I won't soon forget.

Just Paradise

The perfect Mother-Daughter get away

Everyone was delightful! I loved the communal atmosphere. We made so many friends, had a devoted trio of yoga teachers. There was always something to learn and they challenged you every day to be your best. The food was ***** amazing; vegetarian, made fresh every meal, locally sourced and healthy. The pace of the entire visit was exactly what we needed! Our new friends are from Canada (east & west), Alaska, France, Austria, California, Las Vegas, Massachusetts and Brooklyn!

Monkeys in the trees, roosters, donkeys, dogs & a peaceful cat (Peaches).

Excursions are available, if you choose, and they are active and interesting and fun! We immediately felt at home and “in the zone”. Beautiful beaches are a short ride away and the supply the transportation.

We highly recommend. Namaste 🧘‍♀️

A magical soul oasis

From the moment I got to El Sabanero, I felt welcomed and completely at peace. It’s a beautiful environment, with a sense of family built into the layout. I was greeted right away by one of the yoga instructors, Sebine, with a warm hug. She showed me to my cabin and gave me an overview of the layout of how the days work. The cabin was adorable; very homey and comfortable. I loved how the natural light and breezes flowed so freely.

The yoga classes were very different from what I’m used to doing (hot power yoga) and I really appreciated the focus on meditation and unity in breath. These classes were the first time in my life I was ever able to truly get outside of my head. The community meals, which were fresh and delicious, allowed for deep connection with beautiful people from all over. By the way, I’m not vegetarian, but the quality of the food made me consider being one! Fresh coconut water was such a treat. I also received a heart healing session from Ruben, under the stars. It was an awakening experience that I did not expect at all. It was really nice to be able to book excursions through the resort as well. I would recommend this resort to anyone; and I will absolutely be back. El Sabenaro helped create truly special and memorable first trip to Costa Rica.

Restoring in a spiritual paradise

I spent one week between Christmas and New Year at El Sabanero. Met wonderful people, all the stuff was super friendly. Yoga classes we’re variable and teachers adapted them according the energetic of the group at the particular days. The entire resort is well designed with places you can socialize but you can find a quit spot to nap in a hamac and meditate. Kurt and Harold are very friendly ready to go out of their ways to accommodate you. The food is just amazing and soo heathy. Rooms are simple but clean with plenty of hot water and A/C and the pool area is offering breath taking view just offering itself to take perfect yoga poses pictures. I will definitely go back.

Didn’t want to leave

This was my first yoga retreat. There was very little that could have been done to make this any more perfect. Our yoga instructors: Hector in the morning, Bettina in the afternoon were The Best at making your sessions as easy or difficult as you wanted with guidence for correcting your pose. Donald, the chef and his wife, were magicians in the kitchen with vegetarian food. We had fish a couple nights, but I did not miss meat! The area is so serene, our day trips spectacular. I made friends that i will keep in touch with forever!

A-maz-ingggggg! Could not asked for a better experience

Where do I begin? My mom and I decided on this as a relaxing, peaceful getaway and it was just that! From the moment we booked it at the last minute to our arrival the staff treated us like family. They are SO nice, so welcoming, and have the cutest resort. It’s set back about 15 minutes or so from Tamarindo beach but I actually preferred this over the busy beach town. The pool and dining are are picturesque, the food is absolutely incredible, and the hammocks everywhere are the perfect place to relax. Kurt, the owner, is one of the sweetest most chill guys. He is very hands on and so accommodating, you can tell his whole staff really like him and they take pride in their work. I’m not a huge yogi but this was the perfect blend. I didn’t do it every day but it’s great for all levels. Definitely fly into Liberia as our ride from San Jose was 4 hours. I highly recommend the day of adventure which was a great value and we got to see other areas. Overall we LOVED this place and met amazing people we will definitely stay in touch with.

The owner, Kurt, and the entire staff (with a special shout out to Donald, the amazing chef and Hector, the incredible yoga teacher) have created an environment that is unique in its warmth and desire to ensure that all guests have an experience that goes beyond what one expects. I felt like I was part of a family and enjoyed every aspect of the retreat. Kurt even had a mosquito net installed in my cabin after I mentioned how that would be a great addition to the room. The yoga was physical and spiritual and the guest teachers were also amazing. Thank you for the wonderful conversations and for an experience that exceeded all expectations. Fantastic getaway experience!

From the moment we arrived, my partner and I felt welcomed by Kurt who offered us big hugs, showed us to our habitacion and advised that yoga was in 30 mins. We met incredible like minded people and immediately felt at home. The resort was beautiful and peaceful, hammocks to relax in everywhere including the front porch of our room. The schedule of meals/yoga/excursion options offered us a perfect routine that did not feel rushed, and allowed lots of relaxation time. We took advantage of many of the excursions arranged by Kurt including a fantastic morning horseback riding at Black Stallion Hills, a full day adventure trip to Volcan Rio Vieja, and a catamaran sunset cruise. Donald and Hazel created wonderful, filling vegetarian dishes everyday for lunch and dinner, Yami and Gisele made traditional breakfasts of Gallo Pinto and local eggs and incredible fresh fruit that I'm missing now that I'm home! They also cleaned the rooms daily while we were out in the afternoons. All of the yoga instructors were friendly, encouraging, supportive and able to cater to all levels of yoga. Plus the YogaShala was beautifully made with lots of space and fresh air (only 1 wall!), with a gorgeous view of the valley. There was also a shop down the hill (3 min walk) if you wanted to purchase beer or wine to have with/after dinner.

I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a getaway to a relaxing, yoga paradise. In fact, I hope to return again myself!

Amazing experience. Came here on my first ever solo trip and yoga retreat. Met incredible like minded people. Had plenty time to rest and relax and also great adventure choices to the different beaches and Volcan Rio Vieja. Kurt the owner of hotel is super personable. He made us all feel like his children at home. Donald the cook, is out of this world. All dishes were exquisite and unique. All of the yoga instructors were great and also incredible. Hector does the morning yoga and the silent walk. He was amazing, his restorative yoga session was an intense experience. Ray and Caitlyn, also super cool and upbeat. Everything was amazing. The Resort its self was in nature and had a magnificent view of the mountains. The facilities were well kept and perfect for what we were looking for. My girl friend and I did yoga in the evenings which was extremely relaxing while watching the sunset. The people there were even better. Kurt the owner was extremely accommodating and took us to the beach and picked us up which was a quick ten minute ride. It was also a pleasure speaking with Kurt and getting to know him. The chef, Donald was probably one of the best chefs that i have ever come across. His food was creative and yet tasted amazing. He really has a true talent for cooking. Life changing

Everyone at El Sabanero was so welcoming. I was nervous about travelling on my own for the first time but I needn't have been; almost all of the guests had arrived on their own and we formed a tight group almost immediately. Perhaps I was lucky, I was there at the same time as an awesome group of women. But I think El Sabanero attracts a certain type, independent like minded travellers who are at a certain point in their life and looking for something through yoga. The location is beautiful, the yoga is challenging enough, the food is delicious and the owners are supportive and friendly; if there is something you want to do they'll help you organise doing it but there's no pressure to do anything other than yoga and relax by the pool if that's what you want. Hector and Yana are both great yoga teachers, and Donald is a fantastic chef. I will hopefully have the chance to return and would highly recommend the retreat to anyone

Wonderful stay at El Sabanero

I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at El Sabanero. Owners Kurt and Harold are friendly and very helpful. The surroundings were peaceful and offered the option for quiet relaxation and reflection or mingling with other guests. The cabin was spacious with a beautiful view of the area farms and mountains. The mini fridge was appreciated for cold drinks in the dry hot weather. There was plenty of shade and the pool and grounds are beautiful. It was so cool to walk through the adjoining forest and see the howler monkeys playing in the trees! I enjoyed the variety of the yoga classes offered ranging from restorative to vinyasa flow to an interesting partner yoga class. Teachers were respectful and knowledgeable and classes were appropriate for all levels. While I am not a vegetarian, the vegetarian menu offered a nice variety and the food was absolutely delicious. It was easy to meet other like-minded travelers and arrange for day trips into the rainforest for hiking, ziplines, river tubing, horseback riding, hot springs-so much fun! It is a short and free shuttle ride into Tamarindo daily if you want to explore the lively beach and restaurants in the fun little town. I felt very safe traveling as a woman alone in Costa Rica and very much appreciated the transportation to and from the airport. I highly recommend El Sabanero yoga retreat.

MY NEW FAVORITE PLACE!

This place is amazing ! It's SO beautiful and the yoga classes are amazing (i've been practicing for ten years and I can be picky about teachers and styles and all the teachers were incredible). The food was unreal and the owners are so cool. They personally drove us to and from the beach and helped us pick the best excursions.

Yoga in Costa Rica

The staff was very accommodating and helpful. The room was cleaned every day and the vegan food was excellent. Many thanks to Donald, the chef, for being so thoughtful and preparing so delicious meals. The yoga instructors (Yana and Hector) were great especially Hector who gave yoga sessions in the morning and not listed here. His knowledge and wisdom was refreshing. We enjoyed the partner sessions and the morning nature walk during our last morning there.

Great Experience

The food was AMAZING (Donald works magic in the kitchen!) and the experience overall was wonderful - lovely people, friendly staff, Harold was very accommodating, and I went away feeling much better than I did when I arrived. Donald even arranged a visit for me to milk a cow (something I've always wanted to do) at the farm across the street! I had such a great time! <3

Simply amazing

Everything about El-Sabanero was perfect. From Harold and Kurt - the consummate hosts - to the beautiful yoga instructors - Yana and Hector - to the amazing food by Chef Donald. It was a perfect week and I was sad to leave.

Relaxing & Peaceful

Very quiet and peaceful, beautiful surroundings. I loved the relaxed atmosphere. The hammock on my porch was a nice added touch.

Everyone was friendly and welcoming. I think it's awesome that the owners arrange airport transfers as well as transportation to the beaches and to town.

I loved practicing yoga outdoors.

The food was AMAZING, very fresh and tasty!

Wonderful time but some things to note before booking!

This was my first yoga retreat so I wasn't sure what to expect. I had a wonderful time on the retreat - the people were incredible, the food is amazing (very fresh and home cooked), there were plenty of excursions to go on, it was both a great combination of relaxation and adventure.

Amazing experience

I had such an amazing time at El Sabanero. So perfect that I changed my flight so I could stay 2 extra days. It was the perfect place to get centred with quiet and relaxation. The staff (friends) were incredible. Super accommodating and friendly. Harold would drive us where we wanted to go and if not him, they had a driver Fernando who was also great! The location is great because its 15mins from Tamarindo. The food was AMAZING - all vegetarian which was a nice touch and different everyday/every meal, the soups were so good! My private chalet had a breathtaking view and hammock.

The best part of course was the yoga, the morning instructor - Hector was awesome, everyday the yoga was different. I came back home more knowledgeable to lead my own practice when I can't go to a class. All the afternoon classes were also different and i feel stronger than i was when i went there.

Sabine was awesome! She is the hostess/yoga teacher. She had such a good vibe and energy, warm, and welcoming. Couldn't have asked for a better person to be on this experience around. I have come home a changed person.

I would recommend the all day excursion where you go ziplining, tubing, and visit the hot springs - couldn't ask for a more full experience. It was a super fun day. Also we went to Avellanas beach club for the day, i would recommend doing this.

Beautiful retreat

The food was absolutely amazing, Donald cooked up such great vegan food and as a meat eater back at home, I didn't miss it one bit. The yoga teachers Sabine and Hector taught were great and had different teaching styles that balanced each other well. Loved having my own cabin. The overall experience was beautiful and I left feeling rejuvenated and inspired.

Superbe accueil

Lovely people and setting

The owners, management and employees were really very welcoming and flexible. The whole atmosphere is peaceful and the property is beautifully constructed. The yoga instructors, especially Hector, were very good. The food was delicious- local dishes, mostly vegetarian.

I had an amazing, adventurous, and life changing experience at El Sabanero. I was warmly welcomed by owners Harold and Kurt from the moment I arrived. Hazel and Donald made the most delicious meals everyday and went out of their way to ensure all guests were well taken care of. They even accommodated me being a vegan. So very appreciated! Sabine and Hector were two of the most caring authentic yoga teachers I have ever met. Both such beautiful souls. I truly enjoyed their classes and talks. The most memorable experience for me was being surrounded by like-minded people in a supportive, relaxed, and loving environment. I didn't want to leave! I left with an open heart and new friends for life:)

Everything I could have hoped for and more

The people. The food. The excursions! The yoga shanty looks out over a farm/jungle and the classes are held morning and night. Watching the sunset from the shanty and the field light up with fireflies after the sun goes down was like nothing I've ever experienced. The teachers taught more than yoga. They truly are healers. I would recommend booking as many excursions as possible. I especially enjoyed the Rincon tour (tubing, zip lining, a little climbing and rappelling, horseback riding and a mud bath at the hot springs after). It was the adventure of a lifetime. The Catamaran was also great. Riding a sailboat and snorkeling/kayaking/paddle boarding. The waterfall excursion included in the package is beautiful. There are two different waterfalls and the lunch on the excursion is SO good.

The SURFING! If I could go back and just surf the whole time I would. The waves in tamarindo are small enough for beginner surfers and boards can be rented at some places for $10 a day.

I felt at home at the Sabanero. We were immediately welcomed and taken care of. The property is even better than the pictures. The people are amazing, and it's an opportunity to have an adventure of a lifetime.

Also, the food. I'm convinced Donald is a magician.

The ideal retreat, as in a family

Amazing teachers in a great place (I had never done yoga in font of the sunset in the jungle), good food (thanks to the amazing cook and his wife), you can go to the swimming pool or the beach when you want... you can even see monkeys and iguanas near you sometimes.

Go. Here. Now.

Aside from the gorgeous scenery, friendly iguanas, amazingly comfortable accommodations and food to dream about, the people were what made this retreat truly special. I made friends for life; connections and bonds that will forever stay with me.

All of the instructors exceeded my expectations and made sure to listen to how we were feeling and designed classes around our needs.

PERFECT GETAWAY

The entire staff, and facility at El Sabanero was amazing. We were a small group of girls from all over the US and loved our stay there. Harold was so kind to pick us up from the airport. Donald and Hazel have the MOST AMAZING cooking skills ever. I enjoyed and looked forward to every single meal. Sabine and Hector are both skilled, and amazing in their yoga teachings.. they ask you to challenge yourself and push yourself beyond your comfort zone. Coyo kept us all safe at night!! The entire place was a tropical getaway that was very much needed - from the amazing staff, to the monkeys howling through your yoga practices :) an amazing overall. THANK YOU!!!

Awesome experience!

Greeted with a smile from the start! Harold was so accommodating and made us feel so welcomed! This was a trip with my daughter for her graduation and it couldn't have been a better idea and experience. The yoga classes with both Sabina and Hector were awesome. Both were very knowledgeable in their practice and made us eager each time to attend! We bonded with the other people quickly and found that the overall vibe and sentiment from the El Sabenero staff encouraged this by providing three delicious cooked meals made from all fresh food items. The fruit and juices were great! It even encouraged my very picky daughter to try some different foods that she found she liked! Kudos to everyone! We will definitely be planning another trip back and hope our friends we met will come back too!

Amazing!!!

I loved it all! Everything about El-Sabanero Eco Lodge is amazing! The accommodation is fantastic, it is set in beautiful surroundings with great facilities and an high standard of cleanliness. I learnt many different types of yoga with lots of lovely teachers all teaching to a very high standard. I had my first meditation experience and it was incredible. The staff were all so friendly and welcoming making this experience very special. The food was delicious, all freshly prepared and very healthy. I experienced a wonderful variety of activities that the staff at El-Sabanero Eco Lodge organised, ranging from waterfall visits, beach trips, hot volcanic springs, zip lining, mud baths and river tubing! The activities were planned in between yoga lessons. For me this was an experience of a life time and I will always remember the lovely friendly staff that I met there.

Everyone is so genuine and friendly that one immediately feels like they belong and are part of the group. The food, as others have commented, was phenomenal. It was a treat getting to know different yoga instructors and experience their style. I have to say that above all I was extremely impressed with Hector Moreno. While guiding several people of very different levels, he was able to take each individual and challenge them to dig just that bit deeper, but that was appropriate to where they were in their practice. In-between morning and evening yoga, you can make this vacation anything you want: Adventurous (with a knowledgeable tour guide that helps you get to know Costa Rica better)? check. Lazying about by the pool? check. Reading? check. Heading down to the beach? check. All of the above in one week? check.

Amazing people, one of a kind experience!

The people you'll find at El Sabanero Eco-Lodge are one of a kind. They represent the magic people often associate with Costa Rica, and it's infectious! Every single person I encountered is generous and down-to-earth, from the owners to the cooks to the other guests. I was treated like family from the moment I stepped on the grounds, and this especially made a difference to me as a solo traveler. People would often check in with me to make sure I was comfortable, fed and happy.

There is a lovely variety of yoga classes held morning and evening. I experienced flow classes, kundalini, restorative, and the individual styles of 4 instructors. They are professional, friendly, spiritual and encouraging to all levels. Some even had recommendations for places to practice back in New York! The yoga shala overlooks beautiful mountains and you can practice with the sounds of howler monkeys in the background!
