Healthy Australia Yoga Retreat

You are invited to join the “Spinal Integration” yoga workshop with Donna Farhi in Mermaid Waters, Gold Coast. The spinal column is the central axis of the human body. In this intensive, Donna Farhi will guide you to explore the anatomy, kinesiology, and functional movement of the spine by learning how to practice yoga postures with greater efficiency and thus less strain on the back.

This workshop will take place in Albert Waterways Community Center located in Mermaid Waters, Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.

  • 4 nights’ accommodation
  • Anatomical lectures with PowerPoint presentations
  • Spinal integration workshop
  • Yoga postures practices

A major focus in this workshop will be learning how to stabilize the most vulnerable segments of the spine: the neck, lower back, and sacro-iliac joints. You will explore the correct transmission of force through the sacroiliac joint and how to both prevent and alleviate discomfort in the lower back and pelvis. You will also investigate how to safely mobilize the thoracic spine and hip joints to support fully erect posture throughout life. Donna will also introduce students to several human developmental movement patterns that are essential for healthy spinal function.

This workshop is for anyone who has been practicing yoga consistently for at least a year and especially recommended for teachers working with others. The focus of this workshop will be on creating spinal health through integrated movement throughout the whole body. Participants can expect to come away with new insights as to how to both create and maintain a healthy back. A special feature of this intensive will be several anatomical lectures with PowerPoint presentations, as well as digital hand-outs that participants can print at home.

Please note that those with spinal problems accompanied by mild chronic pain who are already receiving ongoing Yoga instruction are welcome to attend but this workshop is not suitable for those with acute back pain. While Donna will make every effort to help individuals with specific spinal problems, participants need to respect the limits of what can be attained within a group class in a short period of time as contrasted to ongoing one-on-one yoga therapy.

"Donna’s teaching has greatly increased my understanding of biomechanics and human movement, taking the concepts far beyond standard health science textbooks. Applying this knowledge to yoga creates a profound awareness of subtle changes and possibilities within the human body and spirit. I am looking forward to integrate this with my studies in yoga, remedial massage, and mind-body medicine. Above all, I really appreciated Donna’s grounded, practical approach to yoga, and teaching."

"Coming from a scientific and medical background the solid knowledge base of this workshop is astounding. What I particularly liked was the emphasis on the experience of each individual and the importance of taking responsibility for one self. Yoga in this form is powerful."
