You are invited to join the “Spinal Integration” yoga workshop with Donna Farhi in Mermaid Waters, Gold Coast. The spinal column is the central axis of the human body. If it’s well integrated, it allows the human being to form a conducting rod between the forces of heaven and earth. In this intensive, Donna Farhi will guide you to explore the anatomy, kinesiology, and functional movement of the spine by learning how to practice yoga postures with greater efficiency and thus less strain on the back.
Accommodation will be at Albert Waterways Community Center.
A major focus in this workshop will be learning how to stabilize the most vulnerable segments of the spine: the neck, lower back, and sacro-iliac joints. You will explore the correct transmission of force through the sacroiliac joint and how to both prevent and alleviate discomfort in the lower back and pelvis. You will also investigate how to safely mobilize the thoracic spine and hip joints to support fully erect posture throughout life. Donna will also introduce students to several human developmental movement patterns that are essential for healthy spinal function.
This workshop is for anyone who has been practicing yoga consistently for at least a year and especially recommended for teachers working with others. The focus of this workshop will be on creating spinal health through integrated movement throughout the whole body. Participants can expect to come away with new insights as to how to both create and maintain a healthy back. A special feature of this intensive will be several anatomical lectures with PowerPoint presentations, as well as digital hand-outs that participants can print at home.
Please note that those with spinal problems accompanied by mild chronic pain who are already receiving ongoing Yoga instruction are welcome to attend but this workshop is not suitable for those with acute back pain. While Donna will make every effort to help individuals with specific spinal problems, participants need to respect the limits of what can be attained within a group class in a short period of time as contrasted to ongoing one-on-one yoga therapy.
Please arrive on Friday from 17:00 and no later than 17.30 so you have time to register and settle in. It is suggested that you give yourselves ample time to arrive.
No partial enrollment possible. Due to the sequential nature of this work, students must attend all sessions.
