Set high on a hill, overlooking the lush jungles of Southern Sri Lanka and ocean beyond, Satori Retreat offers a gentle and inspiring natural environment in which to find your center. The beautiful sanctuary at the jungle’s edge is conveniently located three kilometers inland from the picture-perfect beaches of Unawatuna and World Heritage Galle Fort The capital city Colombo is just two hours away.

Whether you’re coming to lead a retreat - or to enjoy one - Satori is the perfect space to unwind, uplift and be inspired. The retreat center has been welcoming retreat guests to their first class facilities for almost 10 years now, so you can be sure you are in good hands.

There are five stylish villas and pavilions in frangipani-perfumed manicured gardens and tranquil ponds offer peace and privacy, as well as plenty of room for group activity. At the highest point, you will find a beautiful thatched roof yoga shala with plenty of room for up to 13 students, built around natural rocks and boulders; your classes accompanied with breath-taking views out to the paddy fields, hills and ocean beyond.

From their spacious open-sided dining room also used as a cinema room, classroom or meeting room, you will see monkeys and numerous vibrant birds. They also offer a cool, shaded infinity pool, strings of hammocks to relax in and to complement the healing space they also have a massage pavilion with a traditional Ayurvedic massage table.

We have been initiating transformations in humans all over the planet for over 21 years. How? Diamond Heart are healers, they are lightworkers and they are here to serve others. By teaching life philosophy, ancient wisdom from the Yoga Sutras, Tibetan Buddhism, and more, Diamond Heart will teach you how to get rid of negative seeds, end all suffering, identify obstacles and we pass on the tools to create your own happiness.

Scott Nanamura previously taught at Tahoe Yoga Shala (formerly Mountain Yoga) in South Lake Tahoe, California, and blends a unique style of Tibetan Heart Yoga, Hatha, Anusara, and Ashtanga into his teachings. Weaving in philosophy throughout a fun and energetic class, He is able to help students connect the philosophic wisdom with their asana practice. Bringing wisdom and movement together, to show how they are beautifully connected–not separate components.

His background includes a Masters Degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine, which includes acupuncture, herbology, nutrition, exercise therapy (Tai Chi Chuan and Qi Gong), and remedial therapy (massage, Tui Na). He has additionally completed Tibetan Buddhism courses and is continuing advanced courses at Diamond Mountain University.

Scott has worked to cultivate the unique ability to bring ancient teachings into a modern setting, to touch the human heart. He works to inspire students to practice with awareness and intention on the mat, and to use the teachings off the mat in everyday life situations. His goal when teaching is to converge compassion and wisdom, art and yoga.

This peaceful setting invites us to slow down, take a breath, and just be. With the perfect balance of movement and stillness, invigoration, and relaxation, this retreat offers the space to explore, restore, and ultimately take up residence in our bodies with a sense of freedom and confidence.

We will rise and shine with an uplifting Flow practice, before nourishing ourselves with high-vibrational, fresh, healing foods and juices. Experiential workshops to compliment the days theme will be scheduled daily, with afternoons free to relax by the pool, take massages or explore our incredible natural surroundings. As the sun sets, we will reconvene with blissful Yin yoga, meditation, and / or Yoga Nidra before enjoying another specially crafted feast from our in-house chef.

During the course of this retrea,t we will explore ourselves and work on rituals that create a happier life by utilizing this ancient wisdom to explore our own beliefs, emotions, and physicality. But this is ancient wisdom for modern living; our exploration and discussions will be tangible, down-to-earth, and relatable to our own lives. Through this work we will lay the foundations for more conscious living, elevating our practice and beginning to take our yoga off the mat and into our daily lives.

Diamond Heart Yoga has a wonderfully skilled chef who can prepare anything from raw food dishes to Sunday roasts. As you are in Sri Lanka, Diamond Heart Yoga aim to give guests as much as a Sri Lankan culinary experience as possible leaning on the healthier side. Diamond Heart Yoga also has experience with detox retreats where they are able to produce liters and liters of juices, smoothies, herbal teas, and broths.

Generally, all meals will be served as a buffet in the communal dining room overlooking the jungle. In between main meals we can offer herbal teas, coconut water, green smoothies, and so on. All the produce is bought fresh and daily from the local markets. Finally, if groups or individuals fancy learning the basics of Sri Lankan cuisine the chef will be happy to hold afternoon workshops if needed.

The retreat venue offers you a new destination with unique experiences to be enjoyed and explored. Between morning and evening workshops, there’s a gap during the day for everyone to chill out in hammocks and relax by the pool but also there’s an opportunity to explore the local culture. Diamond Heart Yoga mission is to help you all experience an authentic slice of Sri Lankan life whilst on retreat.

Sri Lanka is a beach lover’s paradise, with mile-upon-mile of pristine palm-backed tropical beaches, warm turquoise waters, and soft split sugar sands. Just 15 minutes in a Tuk Tuk from Satori Retreat through the jungle villages delivers you to a glorious coastline where you are spoilt for choice. Diamond Heart Yoga favorite all-rounders include Unawatuna Beach three kilometers, with its calm waters, relaxed beach bars and street vendors offering local crafts and fabrics.

Wijiya Beach (three kilometers)offers safe swimming in the form of a lagoon and delicious simply cooked seafood from small beachside restaurants. Stay here until the sun dips into the horizon for a heavenly sunset. Jungle Beach (three kilometers) is also highly recommended and that can be explored as well as the beautiful peace pagoda nearby.

For boogie boarders, Mirissa Beach, and Weligama are excellent. It’s a little bit further away than the others, around 40 minutes’ drive south, but worth the journey. Keep an eye out here as it is the best place in Sri Lanka for seeing blue whales a short distance from the shore. Serious surfers head for Hikkadwua Beach, 18kms north from Unawatuna, where a huge expanse of sand is slapped by some great waves.

Galle Fort

Established by the Portuguese in the 15th century, Galle was colonized by the Dutch and British - and is now a World Heritage Site. Stroll its narrow streets and ramparts (particularly lovely at sunset) for the sights and sounds of life’s patchwork; Buddhists, Tamils, Muslims, and Europeans living in harmony, the energy of trade and the gentle claps at the ever-present cricket matches.

Galle Town

Best explored on foot or by Tuk Tuk. Don’t miss the exotic fruit market and myriad shops selling everything from saris to televisions.

Bike rides

Galle resident, Alex Barrett will take you on an unforgettable ride through paddy fields and jungle. Suitable for all ages trips last one and a half hours to four hours and give you a real slice of Sri Lankan village life.

Turtle Sanctuary

There are several in the area, including a well-run one in Habaraduwa, 15 minutes away.

Stilt Fisherman

Unique to Sri Lanka you can observe fisherman out on their poles close to the shoreline.

Tea Estate

The Handunugoda Estate is 40 minutes away and has a fascinating tour around the production of white tea.

Whale watching

Mirissa is the best place in Sri Lanka for seeing blue whales and dolphins a short distance from the shore.

Yala Safari Park or Udawalawe

Leave Galle at 4 a.m. to arrive for sunrise and sightings of leopard, elephants, and crocodiles.

Temples

Sri Lanka is predominately Buddhist and you’ll find temples everywhere, including Yatagala and Kalatuwa.

Kogala Lake Sunset Tour

Marvel at the spectacle of thousands of birds and bats all flying to a lake island for the night.

Surfing

There are a number of surf schools in the area, and great waves at Unawatuna, Wijiya, and Weligama.
