Yoga courses

The meaning of yoga is to join together or to unite, the physical, mental, metaphysical, and psychological levels of an individual. Yoga is an ancient system of techniques for all-round health and wellbeing of the individual. These techniques have been tested and refined over thousands of years and are available to anyone willing to learn them. The scientific and easy-to-learn exercises provide a practical, natural, and holistic way to achieve health and vitality. The purpose of yogic practices is to destroy the impurities of the mind and acquire physical practices for ultimately attaining self-realization.

Yoga chakra

Inside every human there is a network of nerves and sensory organs that interprets the outside physical world. At the same time, within us resides a subtle system of channels (nadis) and centers of energy (chakras) which look after our physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual being. The chakras are the seven main energy centers in the body. They are located along the spine, starting at the base and running upwards to the crown of the head. The chakras are described as whirling disks of light, and each chakra radiates a specific color and energy. As each chakra relates to specific spiritual, emotional, psychological, and physical issues, the conscious awareness and the balancing of these energy centers lead to well-being.

Evening Ganga Aarti

Just as the suns rising is marked by prayer, so is its setting. Each evening as the suns last rays reflect off the boundless waters of Mother Ganga, we gather for the Ganga arti. This divine light ceremony is filled with devotional song, prayer, ritual, and a palpable sense of the divinity of Mother Ganga. The aarti, an ornate oil lamp, lined with dozens of flames burning in pure ghee, is offered to God. We give thanks for the blessings bestowed upon us that day, as well as symbolically offer light back to Ganga arti. It is a time when we break free from the normal stresses and strains of everyday life and gather together in joy, reverence, and peace.

White water rafting

Of all the rivers of the Indian subcontinent, the Ganga is perhaps the most beautiful. It originates from Gaumukh in the Garhwal region of the Himalayas and is a superb river for inflatable rafts. Rafting on its waters is an unusual experience and one to cherish. To ride these rapids and to come to terms with their strength and wildness is to grow in spirit and to nurture the very thing that dreams are made of.

For those looking for other physically challenging activities like kayaking, climbing, rappelling, and cliff-jumping, these are all also available.

Camping with rafting

On the banks of the river Ganga, a sandy river beach and a portion of riverside forest exists. An excellent getaway from city stress, the tented river camp offers complete outdoor experience with white water rafting at its very best: camp games, solitude, campfire tales, kayaking, abseiling, good food, and new found friends. And for the not so adventurous, it is a great holiday to put their feet up and relax with a few lazy walks thrown in.

Mountain biking

Get onto special mountain bikes to explore the forests and villages, or ask for a more rugged route to push the level of challenge further.

Typical Indian experience

Dewa organizes local classical musical and dance recitals occasionally. You can also request our staff to take you to a neighboring village to witness the festivities of the numerous spiritual and cultural events that take place each month.

Nature active

At Dewa, guests have an opportunity to spend half a day at a village up a hill which is about a 1 hour hike. Here you can see the herb, agricultural, and rice paddy fields. You are guided by our resident team of farmers to learn more about the various items that are grown in and around Dewa. Activities include harvesting, planting, weeding, and watering the various food and herbs that go into their food and rejuvenation oils. Please note the agricultural activity is seasonal in villages.

Guests are also free for the rest of the day to relax in our spa or read a book overlooking the Himalayas at our library and outdoor lounge.

"Firstly, the staff are warm, welcoming and genuine the minute you arrive. Welcome drink and beads are a nice touch. They helpfully explain the facilities and surrounding area, with emphasis on the need to relax! The views of the mountains are stunning, especially when sitting in the pool after a long day walking. The attached restaurant does nice, well priced food and the inclusive breakfast is more than ample. The cafe across from the hotel also does delicious healthy smoothies. Wifi is good and location is off the main road so nice and quiet. Rooms are clean and spacious, beds are comfortable and shower is good. Only minor suggestion for improvement would be that the airport transfer organised by the hotel for 1400 rupees was a bit expensive for the vehicle provided. "

"When we explained to the hotel staff that we we going to an ashram nearby after our stay, they said we would be welcome back if we ever needed any help or advice with anything, which is an example of how nice and genuine the staff are. We only had one night, but if we return to Rishikesh we will definitely be staying here again. Could not recommend enough."

It has a nice neat and clean swimming pool that kids enjoyed. Food was tasty, hygienic with mild spices. breakfast was a good mix for all of us. Room size was big with all basic necessities available. Overall it was a good stay."

"Our stay from check in and check out was one of the finest experience of customer service. This gem of a hotel located away from the main road and in a quiet area has modern rooms with amazing views of the lower Himalayas. "

"Reception staff was very helpful in answering all our concerns as this was a long awaited holiday with my family. Mr. Prateek and the team suggested rafting, waterfall visits and other activities to us. Also the proximity of the hotel to the Laxman Jhula bridge and river Ganges is an added advantage. One is short walk from the main tourist attractions. "

"Food is fresh and tasty. The breakfast buffet served fresh fruits and a lavish spread with many options to choose from. Kids loved the shakes, smoothies and pizza at the organic café. "

"My wife tried the spa and was all praise for the professional experience. Mr. Bharat Arora the General Manager was always warm and helpful whenever required. He even arranged a tuk tuk service form the hotel for us when needed. Thank you Dewa Retreat for making our holiday memorable."

"Had a great stay at the Dewa Retreat. The rooms were great, well-appointed, clean and comfortable. Also, the air conditioned organic cafe was a lovely place to while away the afternoon with exellent food and a good book! However, the think that really made it for me was the outstanding customer service, which didn't stop at just ensuring the accommodation was comfortable. The staff were proactive and actively worked to organise interesting things to do while I was there to enhance my experience in Rishikesh. Bharat and Patik in particular were excellent client hosts, but my thanks go to all the team, who were all great. There are more expensive hotels in town, which claim to be "the best", but in my opinion, the Dewa retreat beats them all hands down. Thanks all, I will look forward to my next visit!"

"We stayed for four nights in Dewa retreat from 25 to 29 May 2016 . The best thing is swimming pool . Not very big but it was fun . Rooms are spacious and furnished to the need . Super delux rooms balconies are facing mountains with nice view. Breakfast is served at ground floor . Breakfast has limited items and could be added with few dishes . The one health punch of Musali with curd and honey is very good . Dinner is made to order . It is better not to include dinner in package to have flexibility . The food quality and taste is very good . The management is ready to listen any suggestion . They have another reatuarant called pure and soul which is excellent . Limited dishes with brilliant quality and lots of shakes and drinks . We had lunch there everyday . The hotel is 10 minutes walk from Laxman jhula ."

"At the Dewa Retreat we were greeted by a pleasant young woman offering us a glass of rhododendron punch and meditation beads. She informed us that our room had been upgraded from a "partial mountain view" to a "full mountain view" with a balcony and chairs to relax in. Our room was spacious with twin beds, small sofa, a flat screen TV and a cedar wardrobe. The sheets on the bed were rough and didn't stay in place very well. The washroom (bathroom) had only a shower, one hand towel and two bath towels. There was no plug for the sink which made it difficult to safely clean my contacts. Also on the main floor there is a washroom for the use of guests but twice I used the facilities and there was no toilet paper which made it awkward. I had to get some paper towels and throw them in the wastepaper basket after use. I attended yoga classes in the morning the days we stayed at Dewa Retreat. It seemed sunrise was a time of windiness. In the halls and the yoga room it was quite drafty and cold. Yoga was great with around 10-12 students in each class. The breakfast buffet had lots of variety, but I wasn't so impressed with the dinner we ate in the hotel restaurant. My husband had a grilled cheese sandwich which must have been cooked in a panani press because it was about 1/2 inch think. I ordered vegetable lasagne topped with a light colored cheese reminiscent of what we call "Velveeta" in the States. Now for the location. Don't miss lunch at Ramanas which is a restaurant run in conjunction with an orphanage. This eatery is very popular, so we ate first and then wanted to play with the children afterwards. But when we finished, the children were practicing a program and so we weren't able to see them. I would recommend finding out in advance when the children are free to be seen by visitors. The men at the desk of Dewa can give you walking directions to Ramanas. It is also within walking distance of the Lakshman Jhula bridge where there is great shopping. Beware of the monkeys though. Don't carry your purse, camera, or shopping bag at your side by the strap. Monkeys may snatch it from you looking for food. And if they don't find food they may just throw that purse or expensive camera in the Ganga."

"We couldn't be happier with our stay at the Dewa Retreat! From arrival to departure, the retreat made it easy to navigate Rishikesh and beyond with absolutely no pressure. My boyfriend and I arrived in Rishikesh late in the evening with a tentative reservation through an online booking site. They offered us a MUCH better deal than the booking site along with complimentary rhododendron juice and prayer beads. We had only planned to stay a night while we got our bearings but stayed for four! For those yoga inclined, the hotel offers daily introductory yoga instruction (interesting but very basic) or it's conveniently located near a few great Ashrams - Anand Prakash is just around the corner and had great classes. The daily breakfast, included in our room, was wonderful! Fresh fruit, Continental and Indian breakfast items as well as fresh ginger tea and chai was made for a great start to the day. The food menu items were straight forward with the exception of some fun drinks. The restaurant staff were so sweet in answering all of our questions- they even brought out of of the mixes for our favorite drinks so we could take a picture to look for at home. The rooms were incredibly clean (floors, linens, bathroom), they had GREAT hot water, and the hotel staff went above and beyond to make our trip easy. They even reserved train tickets through a third party and had them delivered to the hotel at no additional charge! They had great recommendations on places to visit with absolutely no pressure. Finally, the location was great! Nestled just off the main road, it's convenient to transportation and is less than a five minute walk to the foot bridge. It's close to everything while still being a quiet oasis with views of the hills.I highly recommend staying a night or a week at the Dewa Retreat; you won't be disappointed!"

The hotel has all the amenities which you can think of, for us this is like another home away from home.....Hotel staff is very courteous, Hotel management is easily accessible in case of anything, food is simple but delicious and hygienic, you can stair mountain from your private balcony for hours, you can breathe in fresh air away from city life, you can enjoy in swimming pool with kids. One thing I like most about the hotel is the location and its proximity to Laxman Jhula and River Ganga. I would love to stay in the hotel again in my next visit to Rishikesh. "Because most people visit Rishikesh to study yoga or pursue spiritual interests, there are very few places to stay that really cater to tourists or those who prefer more comfortable accommodations. The Dewa Retreat is a new hotel in Tapovan that offers foreigners the opportunity to stay in this wonderful city while enjoying classic comfortable accommodations. The restaurant has a good assortment of "familiar" foods including smoothies and vegi burgers and the Ganga is a short walk away. If you want to be comfortable in Rishikesh, this is one of your best choices."

Cannot say this about many other places we have stayed in our travels.I must mentioned their delicious food at Sattvik which is made as per order and the chef goes an extra mile to know if everything was ok.5 stars all the way and the only place to stay in Rishikesh if you want to be in a lovely hotel in a peaceful quiet area and still walking from the attractions."

"I stayed at the Dewa Retreat for 3 nights. The owner and his son checked on us every day to see if we needed anything. They would make suggestions for nearby sites to see. The manager of the hotel even called Ramana's Garden and arranged for us to visit the children living in the orphanage. We were given a tour of the facility and invited back for the evening free time. We returned with small treats for the children. Another evening while we were at the Dewa the owner took us to one of the local temples for evening prayers, a very spiritual experience. We also took advantage of the free morning yoga sessions. Owners are also in the process of adding outdoor eating cafe as a second restaurant for the hotel. Rooms were nice with lovely views."

" A comfortable, spacious, and well equipped retreat with the feel of a LA boutique hotel in the "Yoga Capital" of the world. A well designed blend of modern and ancient with teak wood floors, airy uncluttered rooms, lobbies with a 360 view of Himalayan mountains, and river Ganges. The rooms and bathroom are comfy, modern and simple with WiFi, and flat panel. Most have a balcony with a nice view. Hotel is in a quiet area about 5 -10 min walk from most of the action in Rishikesh. The yoga hall aptly named Prana on the rooftop, surrounded by mountains, truly infuses you with life force. I ran some classes for my workshop there. There is also a large WiFi and projector equipped lecture hall downstairs as well as a fireplace equipped library. The rooftop restaurant being built is an ideal place to spend evenings chatting with friends on a starry night. Overall, it is a great place for holding yoga retreats or spending a week or two to recharge your batteries with some yoga, meditation, and good food. Anyhow, what sets Dewa apart is a retreat like atmosphere, sustainable practices, and intelligent/caring staff. "

" My family felt very happy at Dewa Retreat. The whole staff was extremely warm and helpful. The kids were looked after very well. The yoga sessions were refreshing and the yoga is the best in Rishikesh. We researched a lot before planning the trip and were extremely satisfied by our decision to stay here away from the traffic. We ended up in a quiet place, just us, and green fields enveloped by nature all around. The rooms are modern with all the proper facilities. A feeling of calm is present there. A personal treatment was prepared by the staff making the experience truly memorable. The restaurant deserves a special mention for they cooked mouthwatering made to order dishes which were not on the menu. I recommend this place for peace, nature, personal attention of the staff, yoga sessions at the best yoga hall as well as the professional yoga instructors I have ever experienced in my travels in India and abroad. " Magnificent hotel and marvelous service. Picturesque view from most the rooms facing the hills. Topnotch service and highly hospitable staff. Mr.Virendar and Mr.Sahil were full of life. They left no stone unturned to make our stay pleasant at their hotel. They guided us about places to visit and things to look forward to in Rishikesh. Not to mention the food was mouthwatering. This hotel is my first and final recommendation to anyone planning a trip to Rishikesh. A value for money hotel. "
