Retreat location

Varkala, Kerala

This program will take place in Varkala which is in Kerala and in on the Malbar Coast of India.

About the Location

This training takes place in Varkala, Kerala, India. It’s a beautiful destination for yoga practitioners for a few reasons: its natural beauty, its spiritual significance, and its quietness but also attractiveness for surfers and paragliders.

Varkala is a lovely coastal town in Kerala in South India. It is located 40 kilometers northwest of the capital city of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram. Varkala is the only place in Kerala where you can find cliffs overlooking the Arabian Sea. Just seven kilometers away, you can enjoy the tranquillity of the backwaters where you can simply relax.

It is also considered to be the Varanasi of the South since it is a sacred pilgrim center with its more than 2,000-year-old Janardana Swami Temple, an important Vishnu shrine. It is an important Ayurveda treatment center too.

Another important landmark is the Sivagiri Mutt Ashram which was founded by Sree Narayana Guru, a philosopher, and a social reformer. Since it is the resting place of the Guru, it attracts thousands of pilgrims, particularly from 30th December to 1st January.

Daily Meals

All 3 meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) served at the Yoga Sangha follow the principles of the Ayurvedic way of cooking. For this reason, sattvic food excludes meat, fish, and eggs, and includes fresh fruit, vegetables, cooked whole grains, milk, legumes, nuts, and seeds. Vegetation and vegan meals are provided. It is possible to opt for a fully vegan diet.
