9 Days Stillness in Movement Meditation & Yoga Retreat Morocco

  • Marrakech, Marrakech-Safi, Morocco

Morocco Yoga Retreat in Sahara

This retreat will focus on how to bring stillness into your movement and movement into your stillness. Through different practices and approaches from yoga, guided meditation to movement, and playful group work, you'll learn how to find your place of stillness inside and independently from the outside. It's a place where creativity, spontaneity, abundance, healing, and immense wisdom reside. In the desert with no distractions, you will be able to tune into yourself or your innate place of intuition and magic.

  • Daily yoga sessions
  • Daily meditation practices
  • Moroccan local experiences
  • Daily breakfasts and dinners
  • 8 nights' accommodation
  • Local excursions
  • 8 days with instruction

Hide all

You will stay at riads and kasbahs with en-suite bathroom, and biouvac (berber tents).

This retreat will take place in Marrakesh, Morocco. However, most activities will especially take place in Sahara desert.

  • 8 nights’ accommodation
  • An unconventional and local experience of Morocco with its immense and beautiful landscape
  • Bus transfer from Marrakesh to the desert and back
  • Daily meditation and movement practices
  • Daily yoga sessions
  • Half board meals (breakfast and dinner)
  • Local excursions

The yoga is a combination of Vinyasa flow, Hatha, and pranayama (breathing techniques). The desert opens yourself to your own innate power. Therefore, it is recommended that you prepare a theme you want to work on or an especially demanding asana you would like to deepen.

In the movement classes, you will explore the body and its relationship with itself, the space around it, and other people. Move your energy from your center, and get in direct contact with your own creative flow. These workshops will amplify and liberate your energy via techniques such as theater, movement, and corporal expression.

The meditations will be with either guided using visualizations to receive subtle answers that expand the world of words or active with a combination of movement, music, and relaxation.

Travel guide

After meeting up in Marrakesh in the evening, you will set your intention for the week before you have a typical Moroccan dinner together. The next morning after yoga and breakfast, you will set out to cross the southern Atlas Mountains and Todra Gorges, have lunch in a little village, and have breaks for photos of the beautiful panorama until you arrive at your first stop in Ouarzazate. You will have meditation for the night.

The following morning starts with yoga and breakfast before you continue your journey through the mountains, large plateaus, and palm valleys to reach the desert. After taking a cup of the famous Moroccan mint tea and taking time to relax, you’ll have dinner and your first movement session. The next day is your stay at the hotel just at the footsteps of the dunes. You can take time for ourselves to walk out in the desert or simply relax in between yoga and meditation.

The third day is your day to the Sahara desert! You’ll leave after breakfast to enjoy the ocean-like landscape and finally enter complete silence without outside distractions. There will be no internet, cell-phones, and car noise! You’ll stay for two nights to dive deeper into yoga, meditation, and movement by using the days to tune into yourselves and the theme of the desert. It’s a perfect place to spend some alone time to listen within and to explore the landscape and its expansive view.

It’s all about finding stillness in your surrounding and inside of yourselves, no matter if you sit still in meditation or if you move along the dunes. Relaxing Reiki and Ayurvedic healing massage sessions are available in the spare time in between at an extra cost, or you can take time to simply relax and spend time by yourself or with the fellow yogi travelers. There’ll be plenty of time for you to walk on the dunes, sandboard, contemplate the impression of not having any kind of walls around you, just open space and clear sky, or just chill in the sun.

After these two nights, you’ll get back to your castle at the footsteps of the dunes. You can relax by the pool or optionally take a trip to the little berber village, buy some herbal tea from the desert, or have a look at local items.

After the last breakfast, you’ll take your trip back to Marrakesh. Here, you will say goodbye to everyone, check back into your intention for the week, and contemplate what you’ve learned and seen before taking your flights back home.

"I really like the classes and the way Anne is teaching. It is not just a course but she goes deeper in the explanation, this is what I like. Another point that I find really smart, it is a small detail but I would like to mention it, is that at the end of the course, she always has this sentence “Think about …. “. Then, I would have loved to practice more with her and go deeper in the practice." website, edited

"I would like to thank you for contributing to my decision to take the yoga more seriously. Your classes have been very clear, rounded, and well guided. I could really let go and with total trust follow your lead, and for the first time in my life experience the deep peace emerging from yoga."

"I just wanted to thank you for the classes you gave. I loved them, I loved your music, and you sparked something in me which I didn't know was there. Your classes were highlights of the retreat for me. It wasn't until this retreat that I started to think that I might have found a new passion, and this is largely sparked by your classes. There is a strenuous exercise component to your class which I love, but the way you incorporate the breathing and the meditation makes it to a perfect balance. I feel (and hope) I have found a new passion with yoga, and I can't wait to integrate yoga more and more into my life. I already feel it has started to change me, and I'm excited to see what else is to come."

"I participated in the September retreat in 2014 and it was an amazing and wonderful experience. Yoga, meditation, movement, stillness, oneness... and lots of laughs along the way. The small group were just lovely and what fun we had in our mix of many different languages. Accommodation and food was superb as was the transport. Whenever I make myself a cup of sweet mint tea I am transported back to the desert and a smile appears on my face. Anne and Sahara: I'll be back!"

"Wow. Everyday was an experience. There was no one highlight for me. Travelling in comfort, excellent accommodation, lots of different scenery. Then there was the working through the chakras using a mix of yoga and different meditations and I am really glad that I also experienced the Reiki and massage. And some excellent tunes. Everything was well organized too. All of this is down to Anne and her unique, personable style using a range of different ways to help you to see who the real you is (even if you have to work through a bit to get there!) - SUPER amazing. Of course it helped that I had the chance to spend a week with a group of great people and share this experience. Thanks all."

"In a word Brilliant.Great mix of fabulous scenery, yoga (which I actually don't really like - but this was great) and chakra meditation. Which I think left everyone more in touch with themselves, each other and I can't believe I am about to say this but the universe! Which ain't bad for a week in the desert. Even had France and England holding a desert chanting version of the Eurovision song contest - which finished an honourable tie. No idea what I'm talking doubt - well then you will simply have to go and experience it for yourself - its pretty cool."

"Together with a friend we attended the Chakra Yoga Retreat in Morocco in March 2015. It was an amazing experience. Morocco is such a beautiful country and the way the trip is organized really makes sure you get to experience a lot of it's variety; from the buzzing city to the mountains and different types of desert while staying in beautiful Riads with great food. The people were lovely and very interesting and we had so much fun together. I loved the yoga, different types of mediation and the Reiki session. The connection with the chakras was great for me since it helped me focus everyday, created a consistency throughout the week and got me a better understanding of myself. Anne is a great teacher and wonderful and funny person who has so much knowledge and is really there to guide you through all parts of the experience. She is always there to support you and help you understand yourself. Her wisdom and spirit really amazed me the past week. I will definitely look for more trips like this! Thanks for this amazing experience!"

"Its been such a pleasure getting to know you, Anne, as a teacher and a mentor. You are so dedicated to your practice and it shows with your clear instruction and extensive knowledge. Its not very often I meet teachers who continually train within their own style and also explore other styles. I love that you do Kundalini in the morning and be sure to maintain your own practice. Your passion and hard work radiate outwards each and every day and I am proud to have met you and been one of your students. Namaste."

"Thanks so much to you and Palma for the last week. I had such a great time away and didnt actually imagine that I would enjoy myself as much as I did when booking something at such short notice with such little preparation on my part. You and Palma worked so hard behind the scenes to make the classes and the logistics work so seemlessly for us all and hardly took a break yourselves."

"It was such as wonderful experience; it was great to see such a great diversity of Morocco from Marrakech to the desert, doing so many different activities with such lovely people. I think Desert U organised everything very well seeing as there was so much involved with food, accommodation, logistics etc to pack into one week. Standards of food, accommodation and travel was top notch by the way- even the camel! They are both clearly experts in what they do so the yoga / movement/ expression / meditation tuition was very good. I had a wonderful time with them and will remember the Desert U retreat for a long time to come."
