This retreat is held in a budget surf lodge style hotel in the heart of Newquay, Cornwall, called Ocean Surf Lodge. Rooms are all private, en-suite (with shower room) and feature beach style decor and accessories - rooms are basic but centrally heated, cosy and carpeted. There is an on-site bar which is intimate and cozy and perfect for relaxing in after a long walk (there is also free unlimited Wi-Fi). The lodge itself is located just a four-minute walk the beaches and town centre and it also features free guest parking.

Each day is filled with yoga classes, breathing/relaxation techniques, and coastal walks.

Yoga

The Vinyasa yoga instructor has been teaching for over 20 years. Sessions will be restorative and calming but she will also work with you to strengthen the core, increase strength, stamina, and flexibility. Our instructor is sensitive to all beginners abilities and will encourage you to be challenged yet invigorated.

Physical benefits of Vinyasa yoga

It improves flexibility and muscle joint mobility; strengthens, tones, and builds muscles; corrects posture; strengthens the spine; eases back pain; increases stamina; creates balance and grace; stimulates the glands of the endocrine system; improves digestion and elimination; increases circulation;; boosts immune response; and encourages weight loss.

Mental benefits

It increases body awareness; relieves chronic stress patterns in the body; refreshes the body by relieving muscle strain; relaxes the mind and body; centers attention; sharpens concentration, and frees the spirit.

Coastal walks

The sea air really is good for the health. The bracing climate by the sea is especially beneficial to the respiratory organs and the skin, but also improves circulation and strengthens the body's defenses.

The reason sea air is so healthy is that it contains tiny droplets of seawater enriched with salt, iodine, magnesium and trace elements, which are scattered into the air by wind and waves. Sea air is also full of negative hydrogen ions which, by neutralizing damaging free radicals, improve our ability to absorb oxygen. They can also balance levels of serotonin (the hormone that makes us feel happy) meaning we will become more relaxed and less prone to anxiety.

When you couple the restorative powers of sea air with walking, you are also releasing tension and getting incredibly beneficial exercise at the same time. On our coastal walks, you will experience parts of Cornwall that very few people get to see, stunning seascapes and hidden beauty spots - so bring your camera and prepare to be beguiled and amazed.

  • 11:00 Gentle introduction to Vinyasa yoga and relaxation techniques (class held in a professional studio)

    "We had a lovely 4 night break at Ocean Lodge in Newquay. The rooms are clean but very basic, but it was the staff running this yoga retreat who made it such good value. They made every effort to accommodate all levels of ability with both yoga and walking trips. Food was plentiful, home-style and delicious, served buffet style and at a large communal table which was friendly and gave an inclusive feeling to those guests attending on their own.If you are looking for stylish hotel facilities, advanced yoga and solitude this is not for you, but if you would like an introduction to yoga at a gentle pace in a friendly and welcoming environment and with the opportunity to take part in some beautiful coastal walks at a great price then this all-inclusive holiday is perfect. We came home feeling relaxed, refreshed and looking forward to our next yoga holiday. Thank you to Craig and Carol who run Ocean Lodge, Danielle who taught our yoga sessions and Suzanne who cooked healthy and delicious evening meals - you got it all right - but were also willing to learn our feedback to improve the service you offer in the future."

    "The yoga sessions from Danielle were perfect and I felt I improved a little every day. One highlight was doing the Sun Salutation early morning on the beach!The food was another highlight with Suzanne providing us with healthy but delicious dinners accompanied by a glass of wine. No way was this a starvation diet! Breakfasts were very good too. Delicious breads, coffee and fabulous fruit and vegetable smoothies made to order by Craig.Each day we were offered an interesting walk around the coastline stopping for lunch or coffees en route. Craig was careful that everyone did as much or as little walking as they wished and we could divide into smaller groups if we wanted.A visit to the spa at the Headland Hotel followed by lunch was another great day! Extra treatments were on offer each evening and I enjoyed a facial from Sue a massage from Danielle and a Reiki session from Suzanne which was amazing.All in all it was excellent break. Rooms are clean and basic but the activities and planning from Craig, Carol and Danielle were first class! I feel like a new woman!"

    "I've just returned from Ocean Lodge and the new Zesty Breaks yoga and costal walks retreat they are now running. I'm still smiling from my time there and have continued my yoga on my return. If you are looking for an introduction to yoga in a relaxed, clean, and comfortable lodge, then this place is for you.The food was fantastic, freshly cooked, and plenty of it and the service was friendly and thoughtful with host Craig and Daniella a perfect mix of energy, fun, and local knowledge but also amazing at making you feel welcome and at home and judging if you're individual needs are to be included in a group or if you have come along to learn and take time to yourself. 3 days home and my calves still suitably ache from the beautiful walks and my ribs still ache from the laughter! I will be going back soon"
