This retreat will help you to balance and empower your Yin and your Yang; you will focus on the ABC of yoga practice: alignment, breathing, and consciousness. The correct alignment brings health and projects self-confidence. Deep breathing stimulates all the bodily functions and so contributes to health. The consciousness of who and what you are gives peace and groundedness.

During this retreat, you will be staying at La Casa Hostel. You can opt for the private rooms (Balsa, Bambu, Coco, Laurel, and Moyuyo) or the suites (North Penthouse, South Penthouse, Patio, and Tagua). To book one of the suites, a two-week reservation is required.
All of the rooms are private rooms with their own bathroom, a small balcony overlooking the ocean, and access to the shared communal kitchen.
All of their suites have their own private bathroom, kitchen, and a small living room. Additionally, the two penthouse suites have a large balcony overlooking the ocean, while the Tagua Suite has a small balcony, and the Patio Suite has an outdoor patio and parking garage.
For shared living spaces, you will also have access to the communal kitchen, bonfire pit for BBQs, two lounge areas with couches and hammocks, and book exchange.
Yoga Retreats @ La Casa long-term Hostel wants to help you reach into yourself and identify your Yin and Yang qualities. Find the goddess and god within you waiting to manifest themselves. Whether you are female or male, you possess qualities that are yin and qualities that are yang. And somewhere in there resides the goddess that is you, resides the god that is you.
You can also enjoy a gentle, deep massage that can help relax all tissues, clearing the pathways of Yin and Yang energy.
Your Yin and Yang potential will be enabled by working on the basic asanas and deepening your understanding of them, holding the asanas will strengthen muscles and joints, flowing from one asana into another will create beauty and ease of movement, releasing into yin poses will stretch connective tissues clearing physical and emotional blockages.
Participants will arrive at the yoga retreat.
Sample daily schedule
This retreat will take place at La Casa long-term Hostel in Ayampe, Ecuador. La Casa long-term Hostel welcomes you to share their space and practice your yoga asanas in the open-air. With the ocean breeze, while listening to the music of your surroundings of birds chirping and whistling, while the waves break and crash in the background, it truly is as serene as it sounds, but better in person!
When you aren’t practicing yoga, you can find yourself sipping fresh coconut water and smoothies, swimming and surfing in the ocean, indulging in a variety of cheap seafood options, and best of all, when you open the hostel doors, you will be greeted with the sand beneath your toes!
Your meals will consist of breakfasts, lunches, and dinners during the retreat, except for the first and last days. All meals can be catered to any dietary restrictions, preferences, and / or allergies. There is a private chef at the retreat, so please indicate any dietary restrictions or requests you may have.
Follow the river or head into the jungle via the three well-known trails that originate from Ayampe.
Whether you’re a novice or an experienced equestrian, you can enjoy rides along the beach or along the Ayampe River.
You can rent a kayak or SUP board in Ayampe and go kayaking in the ocean, to Los Ahorcados, in the Ayampe Lagoon, or a kayaking trip through the river (the river must be full to do this) can be coordinated for you.
Dive into a foreign language and get to know the locals with one-on-one or group Spanish classes at La Casa.
In Ayampe, the surf is literally right outside your doorsteps. There is also a break a bit further down the beach in between Ayampe and Las Tunas. It is about a three-minute walk along the beach, north of the hostel. La Casa Hostel also offers two-hour long surf lessons, including a surfboard. If you do not want to travel with your board, you can rent a board with La Casa Hostel or one of the other board rental places in Ayampe.
Known as the “poor man’s Galapagos” and is home a variety of bird species including the blue footed boobies, red footed boobies, the Nazca boobies, waved albatrosses, frigate birds, red-billed tropicbirds. A basic snorkel tour at the island costs 30 to 40 USD depending on if it is the high or low season and it includes snacks, lunch, snorkeling, and a hiking tour of the island. Whales, dolphins, sea lions, turtles, and manta rays are often spotted during the boat ride to and around the island.
It is ranked as one of the most beautiful beaches in Ecuador (think white sand beach and crystal, blue water).
Every year between June and October, the humpback whales of the Antarctic migrate to the coast of Ecuador for breeding. You can take many tours from Puerto Lopez or from Salango to see these majestic creatures, or visit Isla de La Plata. You can also see the whales from your balconies!
In addition to the one massage included in the Yin and Yang yoga retreat, you can reserve additional 60 to 90 minute massages, such as Tui Na, Shiatsu, Thai, Abdominal, Acupressure, Sports, Swedish, myofascial, and reflexology massage therapy at an additional cost.
Targets specific muscle groups to warm and soften tissue, realign muscle fibers and release tension, help heal scar tissue and flush toxins. This deep massage helps relieve muscle pain and speeds recovery from muscular exertion or persistent chronic orthopedic pain conditions. Therapeutic techniques used are deep hand and finger pressure, rubbing, kneading, friction, vibration, tapping and myofascial techniques.
This is a traditional Thai massage from the southern region given on a floor mat without oil. This powerful therapeutic style involves the client to be manipulated in various stretches to relieve tension and limber muscles and joints while direct thumb pressure is applied along major meridian energy lines to create homeostasis.
Connective tissue techniques are used to promote relaxation and relieve muscle fatigue.
Reflexology has been seen throughout thousands of years in cultures throughout the world. It can be understood as specific and intentional pressures applied to the hands, feet, and face to promote wellness and relaxation. Reflexology theory functions off of the theory that every part of the body can be manipulated through their corresponding reflexes located in the areas of the hands, feet, and face.
Aromatherapy is both an important physiological and spiritual part of healing. An essential oil blend is as unique as the person and pathology. Your unique essential oil blend can be added to any modality of massage.
A combination of relaxation and deep therapeutic techniques to address problem areas and reestablish balance. Applying practices from Classical Western, Deep tissue, Shiatsu, Tui Na, Acupressure, Hawaiian, Thai, Egyptian, and Taoist massage. Using deeper methods to focus on tense muscles from activity or stress, while integrating relaxing touch to slow down and reconnect. It includes a Taoist facial massage based on meridian energy points and principles.
Tailored to the needs of an expectant first to third trimester or new mother. This massage focuses on inflammation drainage, hormone balancing, muscle stretches and strengthening, and general relaxation as the body prepares or recovers from birth.
Please book your flight to arrive at José Joaquín de Olmedo International Airport (GYE) or Mariscal Sucre International Airport (UIO) and then take another flight to Eloy Alfaro International Airport (MEC). Transfer from and to this airport is available upon request.
Please let Yoga Retreats @ La Casa long-term Hostel know your airline, flight number, and arrival time. Their taxi driver does transfers and from José Joaquín de Olmedo International Airport (GYE) to La Casa for 90 USD and from Eloy Alfaro International Airport (MEC) to La Casa for 50 USD.
If you have a lot of luggage or surfboards, it is recommended to fly into José Joaquín de Olmedo International Airport (GYE).
From Montanita, take the green "Manglaralto" bus heading north. Ask the bus to stop at Ayampe when you get on, approximately takes you 40 minutes and costs 3 USD. When you arrive at Ayampe, walk down the main road straight and keep going until you see the beach. La Casa is on the right-hand side in front of the beach. A taxi ride would cost you around 20 to 25 USD and takes 30 minutes to reach your destination.
From Olon, take the same green "Manglaralto" bus heading north. It approximately takes you 30 minutes to reach and costs 2 USD. A taxi ride would cost you around 15 to 20 USD and takes 20 minutes to reach your destination.
From Puerto Lopez, take the same green "Manglaralto" bus heading north. It approximately takes you 30 minutes to reach and costs 1.75 USD. A taxi ride would cost you around 5 to 10 USD and takes 20 minutes to reach your destination.
If you arrive at Montanita, Olon, or Puerto Lopez after 6:00 p.m., there will be no bus running, which means you will need to take a taxi to La Casa.
From Eloy Alfaro International Airport (MEC), take a bus to Puerto Lopez which will take one hour and 45 minutes to reach and costs 2.50 USD. Once in Puerto Lopez, follow the directions to La Casa.
From José Joaquín de Olmedo International Airport (GYE), walk roughly seven minutes or take a taxi to Guayaquil Bus Terminal that costs around 2 to 5 USD. From the bus terminal, take a bus either to Olon or Montanita (Olon is closer to Ayampe). The "CLP" bus company (large brown or maroon buses) direct to Olon is recommended.
The bus terminal is big, just ask for the Montanita bus and people will help you where to buy the ticket. The CLP bus times (Guayaquil to Olon) are 05:00, 06:00, 09:00, 13:00, 15:00, and 16:30. Please note that the times may change periodically and it'll take roughly four hours and costs 6 USD. Once in Montanita or Olon, please follow the directions to La Casa.
If you did not book a flight to Eloy Alfaro International Airport (MEC), there are two direct buses to Puerto Lopez from Mariscal Sucre International Airport (UIO). Reina del Camino bus company is recommended and it will cost roughly around 14 USD and takes eight to 12 hours to arrive your destination. Their buses depart at 6:30 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Once in Puerto Lopez, please follow the directions to La Casa.
