During the retreat, you will be staying at Old Farm Cottages: The Bothy and The Granary. Both are very popular vacation rentals and are original buildings within the grounds for more than 250 years old. The Bothy is a stone building which was used in the old days to store and clean the hunt of the day. The Granary is located in the main courtyard that was part of the farm utility buildings. Refurbished completely, both have since been continually updated to an exacting high standard, faithful to both the original structure and their historical importance and heritage of the Highlands.

The Bothy

This cottage is set at a higher level than the access road and so has elevated views of both the grounds and Loch Ness. The rustic stone walls and warm interior, it is the perfect hideaway. With an open plan design to the living and kitchen area; it is well equipped with all the necessary for those 'master-chef' days. For those colder evening, there is a beautiful log burning stove. The attic sleeping area has a spacious king-sized bed. The well-appointed shower and toilet will not disappoint.

The Granary

This larger cottage is located in the cobblestone courtyard of the main farmhouse and flanks the western side. It was transformed into a living space in 2013. Access to the accommodation is through the main door that leads directly into the beautifully equipped kitchen and dining room.

There is a double bedroom with a separate family 'his and hers' showers on the ground floor. An open plan stairway leads up to the lounge, dining area on the first floor. There is also a quiet reading area. Here, you will find the master bedroom with 'his and hers' en suite shower. Both double rooms offer luxury king-sized beds.

The third bedroom, which accommodates two guests in single beds, is on the ground floor and has private access from the back of the property. The decor and refurbishment of the Granary, maintaining its original features is a testament to the exquisite taste and high standards you can expect from this delightful holiday destination.


Retreat element

In the midst of a hectic and stressful life, one often feels disconnected from the body, its movements and sensory perceptions. The tendency is to live in your heads and get lost in your thoughts, detached from your senses. Feeling scattered and pulled in opposing directions by daily challenges seems like the new norm.

By practicing mindfulness in nature, in stillness, and in motion, you can reconquer your inner resources. Learning to anchor yourselves in your body, fully aware of your movements, and sensory perceptions provide you with reliable, strong, and clear signals. You can then come back to your natural selves, to your innate sense of ease and peace even in the middle of the strongest life storm.

The seminar element offers training on mindfulness techniques, supported by guided meditation practices. You will also include forest therapy practice and training sessions, contemplation and study of topics around mindfulness and mindful self-compassion. This year, there will be additional “Introduction to Tibetan Dream Yoga”, a glimpse at these ancient Buddhist teachings with a practical application to your daily life.

Morning and afternoon practice sessions to be held outdoors, weather permitting. Evening activities include your choice of enjoying the farmhouse’s grounds; joining informal evening sessions explaining the history of the area; sitting around a bonfire; poetic readings or any other bonding activities the group may be interested in.

If you play a musical instrument or have any performing talents you’d like to share, this would be a great opportunity to do so. An alternate option would be to immerse yourself in the immediate surroundings, 50 acres of park and forest, which offer a great space for solitude and contemplation.

The scenery in the Scottish Highlands is renowned for its mystical beauty; stunning skies, and nature. All of these can be experienced within the grounds alone at Old Farm Estate by the town of Invermoriston.

There are around fifty acres of grounds to explore, with meandering paths through the trees and over a mile of shoreline along mystical Loch Ness. The grounds have been nurtured and landscaped over the years resulting in this jewel nestled in the heart of the Highlands.

The changing seasons have drawn the visitors back time and time again. The winter snowdrops and hoar frost give way to a magical display of daffodils as spring bursts through the grounds. In the warmth of the late spring and early summer, you can take the little row-boat and venture on to the waters of Loch Ness or just relax in the summerhouse watching the sunset and reflections on the water. The autumn brings its own wealth of colors in gold, russet, and copper that are breathtaking.

During the retreat, you will be served Highland’s inspired recipes, freshly cooked on site, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Snacks will be provided during morning and afternoon tea and coffee breaks. There will be a good selection of tea and coffee. You will also get bottled water every day. Selection of European wines will be included with dinner at no extra cost. Either right before or after the retreat, you can plan to spend a few days in the Inverness area with plenty of amazing places to visit. These include Fort Williams, the famous eco-village in Findhorn. You can also arrange and book the “extended vacation” option.

During breaks and free time, you have the possibility to explore the extensive grounds of the Old Farm Estate. The village of Invermoriston is within walking distance, a beautiful scenic walk along the forested River Moriston, by the Invermoriston Falls and historical landmarks.

Wildlife photography

Most of the UK's mammals have homes in the area. There are red squirrels, pine marten, red deers, Sika deers, and birds of prey, to name a few. Plenty of pheasants are found throughout the property which is raised by the neighboring Glenmoriston Estate.

Please book your flight to arrive at Inverness Airport (INV). You will be provided a transportation from Inverness Airport (INV) to the Old Farm Cottages. A 55-minute ride leading right through the historical town of Inverness, then through beautiful countryside along the River Ness and along shore of the Loch Ness, through very picturesque townships like Drumnadrochit, and driving by Urquhart Castle. The trip from the airport, is definitely a tour in itself, a great introduction to the beautiful Scottish Highlands.
