At The Sanctuary at Caimeli, Melissa will guide you through a week of traditional and modern movement practices with an aim of helping you to discover your very own flow by the end of your stay with her. Melissa is a dancer, choreographer, barre, yoga dance, specialist yoga teacher, Ashtanga yoga teacher, wellbeing and dance fitness, founder of Blacksbarre, teacher of dance, musical theatre and performing arts, mental health first aider who will guide you for the week.

The Sanctuary by Caimeli is a yoga retreat and olive plantation located next to a nature sanctuary. The manor house and guesthouse were built in the traditional style of the region over 200 years ago. Caimeli sits on a gentle hill cusp with 16 hectares of rolling landscape filled with olive, cherry, and nut trees.


A 2-hour yoga class will be offered every morning followed by a 1.5 - 2-hour class in the late afternoon. Melissa will introduce you to Ashtanga initially to deepen your understanding of the primary series which will then (as the week goes on) develop into an exploration of her Contemporary Flow as you become more accustomed to her dynamic and challenging movement style and fusion of movement disciplines.  

Through Melissa's vast experience in teaching, she will adapt the practice to the group and each student's ability so no prior experience is required. A range of levels, modifications, and variations of transitions will be offered in every session so that each class is completely inclusive to all, whether you're a seasoned yogi or a complete beginner.

Each morning class is designed to deepen your knowledge about the physical practice of yoga, provide you with a base understanding of your anatomy as well as giving you an insight into the technical process of, ‘how to get' from A to B with fluidity, grace, control and connection to your breath.

She is a true believer in the process and wants you to be able to get the most out of your week with her by having a good understanding of how the body moves and why to ensure a safe and satisfying practice.

Each morning class will end with a meditation practice allowing you time to physically consolidate the movements that you have experienced during the session and to encourage you to pause, refocus and release any tension held within your body.  

Evening classes

According to Hindu philosophy Lord Shiva danced the world to existence, ‘The Cosmic Dance of Shiva,' the connections between yoga and dance have been evident and intertwined for centuries, however, to  present this idea in its simplest form is to understand that  Yoga and Dance is  breath with movement or breath-guided movement united with the mind.  

Melissa's afternoon classes will consist of a varied mix of playful workshops designed to explore the links between dance and yoga in a more creative and relevant way to you. She will lead you through an exploration into the impact of music on mood and physicality when it is used in unison with movement, energy release through movement, AcroYoga and contact improvisation 'the power of touch', inversions and balances and the connection between breath, focus, fluidity and the power of movement meditation.

Melissa's week at Caimeli is designed to challenge you physically, with a focus on the body initially the muscles, the joints, and the nervous system helping you to understand your own physicality as you move from one Asana to the next in the morning sessions.

She will guide you through a range of relaxation techniques throughout your week to help you to restore and relax your mind and then help provide you with a platform to discover your own joy in movement as you experience her energizing afternoon classes, this is definitely not to be missed by anyone that loves to move.
