The Sanctuary at Two Rivers yoga retreat and yoga teacher training center in Costa Rica can accommodate up to 16 individuals. It offers two types of eco-chic accommodations: jungle lofts and studio houses. Each type has its own unique qualities, size, bed options, and layout. All houses are set amongst picturesque tropical gardens with observation decks, hammocks and wonderful jungle vistas. They are powered by high-tech solar power system, have green lighting, spectacular outdoor solar hot water showers with garden views, ceiling fans, and screened in walls giving you an up-close and intimate experience with nature.
You will be staying in the jungle lofts. The lofts are sensitively green-designed to harmonize within the natural environment, providing a comfortable up-close and very personal experience with nature. Each of the six jungle lofts at The Sanctuary places each guest at eye level with the forest canopy and her passing monkeys, singing tropical birds, and scented floral trees. Plenty of room to perch yourself on a hammock at canopy eye level with your favorite book, a pair of binoculars, digital camera and a glass of fresh mountain spring water. Screened-in open-faced walls allow for vintage viewing, excellent ventilation, and pleasurable sun and moonlight. Refreshingly cool slate stone supports the ambiance to relax, recharge, and reconnect.
Upstairs in the bedroom mezzanine, guest beds have an unencumbered view to the jungle. In the spacious bathroom, and private dressing area there is ample sink shelf space for each guest. And right outside is a tropical garden view solar hot water shower with great pressure, and wide showerhead. All of these jungle lofts are of a townhouse design with two lofts side-by-side. Each accommodates two individuals; each guest in a single twin bed, or combined to form a king bed.
Your asana practice will be Hatha Vinyasa, meaning the fluid and purposeful integration of breath and movement. You will gain an understanding of proper alignment for over 108 asana, sun salutations for all levels, creative and smart sequencing, core based strength exercises, enhancing postures with hands-on adjustments, how to incorporate music into a class, how to use props, and how to work with special populations. The program is created on a three week schedule to allow for some unstructured free time over the weekends so you can explore the nearby beaches, waterfalls, and hiking trails; or simply relax in a hammock or by the pool while catching up on reading and writing.

One of the most economical and rewarding excursions is a walk from The Sanctuary to where the river meets the sea. The Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve was the first National Park to be established in Costa Rica. You can see hundreds of plant species, all kinds of wildlife, including howler and white-faced monkeys, parrots, iguanas, anteaters and the long-tailed coati.
The neighboring town, Montezuma, boasts an artisan lined street set in a cozy cove in front of the Pacific Ocean. This is a great 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. excursion. You can get a fresh tropical juice, smoothie, ice cream, gelato, pizza, and more while you shop for gifts for you and your loved ones.
Without leaving your amazing nature reserve, there are several rivers with hidden swimming holes and secluded spectacular waterfalls for you to explore. You can hike up river for 45 minutes to discover a magical lagoon or hike down stream for 30 minutes to the Rio Lajas estuary, and rocky shore. The rivers change with the seasons, so whenever you visit there will be new surprises, and natural delights for you.
Costa Rica is known as one of the world's premier surfing destinations. There are several good surfing spots very close to The Sanctuary. It is best to arrange boards to be delivered and picked up at your surfing spot. You can walk five minutes across the street of the front gate to the Rio Lajas break and also continue down the beach 15 minutes to the Los Cedros break. A 15-minute taxi ride will get you to the Montezuma breaks near Playa Grande and 30 minutes to Play Carmen, MalPais, and St. Teresa.
This full-day excursion starts with a panga boat ride from the beach in Montezuma up the Nicoya Bay where you will view the beautiful coastline from the sea. You might see some whales and dolphins along the way. Once at Tortuga Island you will enjoy incredible snorkeling in the blue Pacific Ocean, followed by a very tasty barbecue lunch. Enjoy the white sand beach were you can play volleyball, sun tan, or just relax.
It is a sanctuary experience consisting of a two-hour empowering adventure right on the property. The zip-line excursion in Montezuma consists of a series of nine cables and 13 platforms that are suspended high above the forest floor. While zipping through the canopy you will see a number of plants and animals unique to Costa Rica, possibly including howler and white-faced monkeys, parrots, iguanas, and much more. During the tour you will stop at the famous Montezuma waterfalls where you can take pictures and go for a swim or swing from a rope, and jump into the deep pools carved by the cascading waters.

Arrival by airplane
The Sanctuary at Two Rivers local airstrip in Tambor, Costa Rica is only a quick 25-minute flight from Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO). All guests must arrive at The Sanctuary no later than 4:00 pm on arrival day; please schedule your travel accordingly.
Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO) is the most convenient airport to The Sanctuary. Frequent international flights are available at this modern airport. For your travel, plan at least two hours between local air and international travel.
Two local airlines offer scheduled flights and charter services to Tambor airstrip. The flight time is 25 minutes. Check for flights on either Sansa Airlines which is a five-minute walk from the exit of the International Airport or Nature Air which now departs from inside the International Airport terminal but you must clear Immigration and Customs first and then re-enter the building upstairs and check-in at their counter. Please allow at least one and a half hours from your international arrival time in order to clear Immigration and Customs and to check-in for the domestic flight.

The Sanctuary at Two Rivers | Liz Lindh can pre-arrange land transportation (additional cost) from San Jose directly to The Sanctuary via roads and a ferry that crosses Nicoya Bay to the Nicoya Peninsula. This might be economical for a large group and is approximately 5 hours.
