You will be accommodated in The Quadrangle Trust. You can choose from a dorm, sharing twin room, double room, private room, tent or camper van. The Quadrangle Trust is a large Victorian model farmstead built in 1870 near Shoreham in Kent. This centerpiece is a large hay barn with wooden floors and gallery at one end. There is a beautiful young forest garden, a river to swim in, an orchard, and a woodland camping area.
The Quadrangle Trust is a family run center for creative and environmental education and well-being. They have three private rooms and a large cozy dormitory. In the summer months, they offer the option of staying in the yurt, a bell tent, or bringing your own tent.
The main barn of The Quadrangle Trust is a 127.5-square-meter grand, lofty hay barn. It is unconverted but improved with a timber floor and gallery at one end. As an extension of your living space, Shepherd’s Barn has been very simply converted by Green and Teggin architects into a large kitchen and living room, a double bedroom, and a shower room on the ground floor.
The barn also has a well-equipped kitchen, wireless internet, and a wood burning stove. The dormitory above this barn can be used for up to 15 people. A 2.3-acre field, used as horse pasture and dairy cow pasture, is now a forest garden. The Forest Gardens are diverse multi-layered orchards similar in structure to young natural woodlands.
The canopy layer consists of fruit trees, apples, pears, plums, and cherries. Under them are shrubs and soft fruit bushes and a ground layer of low growing perennial fruits, vegetables, and herbs. The yurt in the garden, used for couples, families, or groups, is kept warm with a wood burning stove. It can be used as a bedroom or living space or workshop space.
In the garden, the orchard with beehives and vegetable garden is surrounded on three sides by mature trees and hedges and on the third side by the Darent River with views across to a water meadow. At the bottom of the garden and steps into the river, you can enjoy swimming and boating.
Rebecca Brewin’s background is in the arts. She has traveled extensively, living in various communities and ashrams. Her yoga training began in the Iyengar tradition in India in 2005. She then trained for two years as a Scaravelli-based teacher in London with Chloë Fremantle and Anne-Marie Zulkahari. The inspiration for her teaching is the late Vanda Scaravelli and her teacher of many years, Giovanni Felicioni. She now teaches classes at her home in Somerset and through workshops and retreats at the Quadrangle, London.
Simon Heale has been practicing Buddhist meditation since 1995. He trained extensively within the zen tradition, finally living at Yokoji zen mountain center in California where he became a senior monk before returning home to the United Kingdom in 2010. He now lives and works in London as a core process psychotherapist and at The Centre for Better Health, a progressive mental health charity. Simon finds himself engaged personally and professionally in how to heal and live well within busy and complex modern lives.
This retreat will take place in Sevenoaks, Kent at The Quadrangle Trust. The Quadrangle is a Victorian model farmstead built in 1870 in the beautiful Darent Valley, in North West Kent, close to Shoreham Village. The Quadrangle Trust is a center for arts, ecology, and more. Please note the farmstead is close to Shoreham in Kent and not Shoreham-by-Sea.
As a center for ecological well-being, The Quadrangle Trust provides delicious vegetarian and vegan home-cooked food. All meals will be prepared by the in-house chefs and can be adapted to any dietary requirements.
You can book tickets for main line trains from London
