The Firefly is a small, rustic, eco bed and breakfast geared toward couples who love the outdoors, a local experience, amazing food, and adventure. This locally built home is boho chic, surf-island home with comfortable interiors, quality linens, and a fun vibe. The open air waterfront restaurant, bar, infinity pool, and lounge area complete with sun loungers, daybeds, and hammocks are the perfect place to spend the day with a book or an evening with sunset cocktails. There is a small, infinity plunge pool for the guests and a covered yoga pavilion that is used for classes, retreats, and private dining.
There are five rooms here at The Firefly. Three are located on the lower level of the house and two are stand alone bungalows. Design attention has been paid to the rooms with unique art, high-quality linens, comfy, memory foam mattresses, and a boho beach cottage feel. The Firefly Bocas Del Toro is proud to feature organic, coconut oil soaps from Punta Coco (made locally in Bocas) in the guest rooms.
All of the rooms have private bathrooms with hot water showers, four poster beds, iPod speakers, and in-room safes. The room also has an industrial fan and comfy, queen size, memory foam mattresses. Room 1 and 2, as well as the bungalows, have private, ocean front decks. Room 3 sits on the side of the house and has a view of the surrounding jungle scenery and the infinity pool.
The largest of the three in house rooms, includes a sitting area with chaise and private deck. The ocean is steps away and the view is stunning. This room sits next to the yoga space and is closest to the restaurant / bar.
Smaller than Room 1 yet it has a private deck and same amazing view.
Room 3 sits on the side of the house away from the restaurant and bar, making it slightly more private. No ocean view but you can still hear the ocean as it is steps away. Glass doors look out onto the beautiful garden jungle scenery and the infinity pool.
The bungalows are the most private rooms which named after the elements of air and water. Both sit next to the main house, built into the hill with amazing ocean views. The Firefly Bocas Del Toro has built these bungalows from scratch making them more luxurious than the rooms in the bed and breakfast. Both feature double sinks, Balinese style outdoor showers, and private decks with hammocks.
Water is the lower of the two bungalows and sits directly above the infinity plunge pool. Both bungalows are identical in layout and include industrial fans, private decks with a hammock, seating area, memory foam mattress, Balinese style outdoor shower, four poster bed with mosquito net, double sinks, outdoor, hot water shower, iPod docks, and of course, ocean view.
Same features as the water bungalow including ocean view. However, this bungalow is set higher on the hill. If you don’t like heights, this bungalow is not for you. For others, the thrill of being level with the trees is amazing. Stairs to this bungalow are pretty high but the view is rewarding and being above it all makes this the most private room.
Located on Isla Bastimentos in Bocas Del Toro, a quick, eight-minutes boat ride away from Bocas Town with plenty of water taxis going back and forth between the islands. The Firefly is located in the neighborhood of “oceanside” off a little path from Old Bank going to the ocean side. The position on the ocean side instead of the bay side gives the advantage of at least five degrees cooler and an awesome breeze.
Old Bank sits on a calm bay where the local people live in houses that sit on the hill or out over the water. The center is located around the point from Old Bank, sitting on the ocean, not the bay. Because of this, the breeze is nearly constant and the ocean is in a front yard. At night, the waves can be heard from your room.
Bastimentos has a very chill, Caribbean vibe which is not found on the other islands. Locals here are Afro-Caribbean descendants of Jamaican immigrant workers hired to work on the banana plantations in the early 1900s. The locals here speak Guari Guari, also sometimes referred to as creole English, but really the language is patois English blended with Spanish and Guayamí (Ngobe-Buglé) words.
Bastimentos is an island of no roads, just a sidewalk running through town. There is a very small beach by the property which sometimes disappears when the tide is high. There is also a swimming hole cleared of rocks to allow swimming access when the water is flat. Water shoes are still a good bet to bring with you as the entry is rocky. Snorkeling and stand up paddle board can be done directly in front of The Firefly when the water is calm.
Bastimentos also provides the ideal location, close to town yet feeling as if you are in your own jungle paradise. If you enjoy the buzz of bars and restaurants in Bocas Town, yet want to come back to something a bit more untouched, natural, and less touristy, it is the perfect option.
The property sits directly on the Caribbean and the popular beaches of Red Frog and Turtle Beach are a short boat ride away. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can hike for 35 minutes to Wizard Beach through the beautiful interior of the island. There’s also a popular hike to the organic farm and cafe called Up In The Hill.
Bastimentos also has the island’s only zip line canopy tour. Just a few minutes walk away from The Firefly are several restaurants, including local favorites Alvin and Kecha, Chavela and Mom’s Place. There are also two convenience stores in Old Bank and a police station.
During this retreat, you will have light breakfast every day with locally made coffee, tea, or fresh juice, four lunches, and four gourmet three to four-course dinners. Filtered drinking water, coffee / tea are also available during meal times. Welcome rum punch cocktail with fresh island juices and healthy smoothies made with local fruit / greens served before class is also available.
The Firefly Bocas Del Toro provides an amazing breakfast that is included for the guests. Every day is something new, whether it’s banana pancakes, breakfast tacos, or french toast with coconut or mango from the yard; all fresh and yummy. Coffee is grown in the mountains of Panama and smoothies are made with local fruit.
The Firefly Bocas Del Toro believes in using local food and organic produce whenever possible and everything such as sauces and ice cream in the restaurant is made in house. There are always vegetarian dishes or can adjust some dishes for vegetarians / vegans. However, if your diet is especially strict, please realize that you are on an island and only have certain items.
Massage can also be scheduled for you to enjoy on your private deck.

The Firefly Bocas Del Toro can point out trails where you can fully explore the island. Whether you want to end at a beautiful, secluded beach or go uphill to Up In The Hill Cafe where you can enjoy a local fruit smoothie, ask The Firefly Bocas Del Toro to point you in the right direction.
For the avid fisherman, The Firefly Bocas Del Toro can arrange a tour with Scott at Bocas Del Toro Sport Fishing for a full or half day tour. There are a few schools in the area where you can sign up for group or private lessons including Spanish by the Sea and Habla Ya.
