Stress has been determined to be the one cause of all illness and disease. Working in alliance with the mind, body, and breath, one can learn to not only effectively reduce stress, one can actually achieve a deep sense of peace and well-being. Come join this retreat to learn practical yoga techniques to reduce stress and build stress resilience; the course is based on the time-tested practice of yogic principles.
During this retreat, you will have the option of having private or shared accommodation.
Half a size larger than the Siva cabins and located close to the central yoga halls, these extremely comfortable, spacious cabins are tastefully furnished and decorated. Watch the deer wander by from the front porch with sunshade.
For your comfort, an air-conditioner, propane heater, and ceiling fan are provided; furnishings include a desk and chairs, dresser or wardrobe, and a sitting area. A small refrigerator, dishes, and cutlery are provided. Options for single, double, or triple occupancy are available. The Shanti cabins include private bathrooms with showers.
Pleasant and simple lodging that can be booked as single, double, or dormitory-style for four with two bunk beds. The Om cabins are placed in a peaceful and tranquil setting, on a gentle hillside overlooking the pond and surrounded by the natural beauty of the ashram. Each cabin is named for a different virtue, such as happiness or contentment. It is furnished with a dresser, desk, nightstand, ceiling fan, and propane heater. Om cabin guests share a nearby bath house.
Nestled at the base of Siva Temple Hill and offering a beautiful view of the valley, these five cabins are their newest accommodations. They feature an outdoor porch, bamboo wood flooring, are built with high-grade materials and can be booked for either single or double occupancy. Furnished with a side table, dresser, and propane heater, each cabin has a private bathroom, including shower.
Guests may bring their own tent and gear and camp on the land. Sleep closer to nature in the fresh, open air. There are deck platforms designated for tents.
The course will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday and the course will end at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday. You are encouraged to arrive by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, making the most out of the afternoon by joining Sivananda Ashram Yoga Farm for the Asana class and dinner. You are always welcome and encouraged to extend your stay to any length before or after the course. Please indicate your desired arrival and departure dates on your registration form.
During the retreat, there'll be daily nature walks.
This retreat will take place at the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Farm, situated in the foothills of California's Sierra Nevada Mountain Range at an elevation of 2000 feet. The historic gold mining towns of Grass Valley and Nevada City are nearby, and the city of Sacramento is an hour's drive away. The climate is relatively mild in the winter, with rain and an occasional light snow, and can be quite dry and hot in the summer.
The hills that make up the ashram land are populated by oaks and pines. The beautiful Yuba, Bear, and American rivers are nearby, offering wonderful hikes along the river gorges. Lake Tahoe is not far away to the east.

Two buffet-style vegetarian meals are served daily. Meals are prepared according to yogic and Ayurvedic dietary principles. Absent from the menu are meat, fish, fowl, eggs, garlic, onions, and caffeinated beverages. No smoking, alcohol, or drugs allowed on the premises. Meals are served in the dining hall or sunroom which has just recently been enclosed.
Though the menu changes daily, you will usually be served with a salad bar, a soup, a grain, a protein, and at least one vegetable dish, as well as oatmeal, yogurt, and granola at lunch. There will always be options for vegan and gluten-free diets.
Please book your flight to arrive at San Francisco International Airport (SFO) or Sacramento International Airport (SMF). Once there, please transfer to the Auburn railway station. Sivananda Ashram Yoga Farm will pick you up from the station.
Please contact them to confirm your planned arrival time at Auburn, and they will add you to their pick-up list. If you are delayed the day of travel Amtrak will honor your ticket for the next train, please call Sivananda Ashram Yoga Farm to advise and they will adjust pick-ups accordingly.
Supershuttle is also available if you would like a direct ride to the ashram or to Auburn.
It is recommended that you book Amtrak train or bus service from San Francisco to the Auburn station, where one staff member will pick you up there to transport you to the retreat premises. Bay Area Rapid Transit or BART departs from San Francisco International Airport (SFO); look for the "BART" signs or ask at any information booth for directions. Travel on BART to Richmond Station and transfer there to Amtrak Station, it is a short one-minute indoor walk.
From there, continue on Amtrak to Auburn Station. Please contact Sivananda Ashram Yoga Farm at least one day ahead of your travel to advise your plans so that they may arrange to meet you upon arrival in Auburn.
From Sacramento, it is recommended that you book Amtrak train or bus service from Sacramento to the Auburn station, where one staff member will pick you up there to transport you to the retreat premises. You may take the airport shuttle to the Amtrak station in Sacramento and transfer there. Please contact Sivananda Ashram Yoga Farm at least one day ahead of your travel to advise your plans so that they may arrange to meet you upon arrival in Auburn.
