Mystical yoga style

SYI training courses hold a strong intention for personal transformation. In this way, the courses are designed not only to provide students with tools to share the wisdom of yoga with others, yet also to look at their own lives from a spiritual perspective. Each training holds a unique energy, created from like-minded souls who join from all over the world.

To guide the process of personal transformation, you will draw on the ancient wisdom of the East as well as on the Shamanic Medicine Wheel of Peru. The yoga teacher training courses are arranged in four cycles, following the four cardinal directions, asking the guardian spirits to guide a cycle of release, understanding, growth and empowerment. Together you create a space that reveals the wisdom within and accelerates the realization of the life purpose.

The practice

Mystical yoga, the yoga of spiritual practice, reaches deep into the roots of this ancient way of life, calling on you to reveal the yoga, the union, within everything. The 200-hour training embodies this approach, opening up to the wisdom and the teacher that is already within you all. Dance, chant, sing. You find community with like-minded people and you embrace the stillness within yourselves. You call on you intuition for the answers and you speak from spirit to spirit. You dive deep into the experience, free from unnecessary distractions and allow the authentic connection to emerge.

Throughout the process of the 200-hour YTT, you have the opportunity to step into your power as yoga teachers who share the mystical dimensions from where everyone came and to which we will return. The universe is a place of discovery, mystery, and mysticism. Come into this world to unveil your own soul-purpose and to reveal your own gifts, so you can serve the world and advance your own spiritual evolution, through your mystical yoga practice, your personal spiritual exploration, your uncover a deeper connection within you.

From the ancient wisdom, daily yoga mystical practice, and through your transformative mystical yoga practice, you begin to reveal a greater sense of beauty, love, and freedom. You see yoga as a vehicle that carries you to experience and enjoy the pure, true essence of life.

This path will ask for self reflection, growth and discipline. The training provides an opportunity to learn under the Gurukula system, living with the teachers - both the external gurus and the inner gurus, and immersing ourselves in the world of yoga.

A day in the life

During the training, the organizers ask participants to embrace all aspects of the yogic lifestyle, such as observing a vegetarian diet, living free from the distractions of other substances, and moving away from technology and unnecessary communication with the external world. They ask dedication, commitment, and surrender, as well as immersion in your spiritual community for the duration of the training in order to allow the work to be as impactful as possible.

Open yourself to what is there, leave all expectations behind and enter the enlightened perspective and sacred landscape of your training with an open heart – whatever comes will be exactly what you need.

Each day carries an intention, a spiritual lesson of the day, that you explore throughout the day. You begin each morning with a sunrise meditation, followed by a 90-minute asana practice and nourishing yogic breakfast. The days are spent learning yogic theory and healing practices through workshops, classes and group discussions. During this time, you cover the fundamentals of yogic living, including yogic diet, anatomy, meditation, cleansing practices, pranayama, Ayurveda and the ancient wisdom of the yoga sutras. The training also open up to include other methods of healing, calling on not just the physical and mental elements but also the more subtle forms such as earth medicine, energy healing and shamanic journeying.

SYI will also share the art of teaching and art of touch, during which students learn to teach two asana sequences, the mystical Hatha flow, a slow, meditative, Sivananda-based practice, and the mystical Vinyasa flow, a more intense, breath-synchronized flow. You also share the fundamentals of intelligent sequencing and explore alignment and adjustment of poses in depth. Each evening you close with satsang, your evening gathering, which may be meditation, kirtan chanting or sacred ceremony.

Retreat Ort

The retreat will take place in Savusavu Bay, Fiji. Daku Resort is on Fiji’s northern island of Vanua Levu, just outside the small town of Savusavu. Fiji has about 300 islands. The two big ones are Viti Levu where you’ll arrive when you fly into Nadi airport, and Vanua Levu - that’s where the resort is located. But whilst Viti Levu has most of the population and gets most of the tourism, they are still a sleepy backwater with a small population and a fraction of the tourist numbers.

The accommodation is in beautiful tropical gardens overlooking Savusavu Bay, which is straight over the road in front of the accommodation. Behind, the property stretches up the mountain - you’re welcome to walk there.

Transport to location

To get to Daku Resort, you need to fly into Nadi, Fiji’s international airport on the main island of Viti Levu, and then take a domestic flight to either Savusavu or Labasa airport. To reach Savusavu, the flight takes 55 minutes and affords some spectacular views. Daku Resort has a courtesy pickup from Savusavu airport and Daku Resort is a 10-minute drive over the hill. Alternatively, to reach Labasa,it is a 45-minute flight from Nadi airport. Labasa airport is situated on the north side of Vanua Levu and is a very scenic 80-minute drive to Daku Resort. This is a larger airport so there is usually more availability with flights, and prices are often less than those to Savusavu. A taxi to the resort costs 100 FJD. Guests who have used Labasa airport say it is a good opportunity to see more of the island than they otherwise would.
