Walking and Yoga Holiday in Morocco

Walking and yoga are natural partners, and where better to hike than a walking holiday at Morocco's spectacular Atlas mountains, with some of the most breathtaking scenery to be found within a few hours' flight from London. Our daily walk will be enjoyed straight from the door, led by a guide who, as a local, is very familiar with the landscape and terrain. The walks in our walking holiday will be different each day and are classified as easy/moderate; suitable for anyone who is reasonably active. Each morning, a dynamic hatha flow yoga class will stretch and enliven the body in preparation for our walk. The evening's yoga and meditation class will be a gentle, reflective combination of gentle yoga and mindfulness meditation: the perfect wind-down after the day's activities!

The Kasbah

The owners designed and constructed the Kasbah with the environment forefront in mind. The stone used to build the walls were sourced from the local riverbed, as it was washed down by storms. Solar panels were installed to soak up the year-round Moroccan sun and now provide hot water and under-floor heating. The Kasbah has its own well with water descending from the surrounding mountains. The formal sections of the gardens which have rose and other flower beds are watered by efficient, drip-feed irrigation. The Kasbah and swimming pool are surrounded by five hectares of beautiful mature gardens and ringed by the mountains. Trees include olives, almonds, figs and pomegranates.

En-suite room

Accommodation is comfortable and spacious, with a rustic feel, befitting the setting. Rooms (all en-suite) are lovingly designed with traditional Moroccan materials: cedar and eucalyptus wood, red sandstone, hand-made clay tiles, locally-made furniture with Berber motifs. Rooms also boast under-floor heating and air conditioning.

07.45 a.m. Hatha flow yoga

09.15 a.m. Breakfast- fresh juices, tea/coffee, muesli, breads

10.30 a.m. Walking in the surrounding mountains and villages

01.15 p.m. A light lunch

05.30 p.m. Gentle yoga and meditation

07.30 p.m. Three-course evening dinner - vegetarian, and, where possible, sourced organically from the Kasbah's own gardens.

Our venue is a wonderful Kasbah (castle), 30 minutes drive from Marrakech, nestling in the foothills of the stunning Atlas Mountains. This recently-built Kasbah is modeled in the style of an ancient Berber castle: it sits on a hill-top, with panoramic mountain views stretching far and wide. From the outset, it was designed and built with the environment at the forefront.

Driving directions from Marrakech

Take the road in the direction of Tahanaout and Taroudant.

Just after leaving Marrakech, you pass olive groves enclosed by giant fruiting cacti.

You pass through Tahanaout, which is the attractive provincial capital, and then you enter the foot-hills of the mountains.

4 km after Tahanaout you turn left at the signpost to Oukaimeden.

The accommodation, Kasbah Angour is a further 1 km on the left on top of the hill. Look for the castle built from stone.

Arrival by airplane

It is recommended that you fly to Marrakech-Menara Airport (RAK) with BMI (from Heathrow). Alternatively, fly EasyJet (from Gatwick), Ryanair (from Stansted or Luton) or Air Maroc.
