Established almost two decades ago, in 1992, Santa Barbara Yoga Center is one of California's leading yoga centers, home to some of the finest instructors in the state. Located in a beautiful, historic building, their studios have an expansive atmosphere, with twenty-foot ceilings, huge skylights, and are filled with light. The studio is available to one or two people because they have only one queen-sized bed and one apartment. A full kitchen is yours for your use.

    Zen out

    CONS Negatives: The location. The yoga center is next to a church, school and realtor office. In the morning, it very noisy. The leave blower, cars and motorbikes boom boxes playing loudly really ruined a meditation and yoga class, especially when you trying to Zen out.

    PROS Positives: I like all the yoga classes, I attended. The instructors are very friendly and encouraging. Very professional.

    Antwort des Veranstalters: As our Center is downtown, there are urban noises that can be disturbing at times, although not most of the time. We are blessed with quiet usually, being next to two churches and near a park. I am sorry if noise was bothersome during your stay!

    Amazing retreat

    CONS Negatives: At times spotty wifi- actually better for disconnecting :)

    PROS Positives: Great diversity of classes with knowledgeable teachers. Large beautiful apartment. Warm hospitable welcome including sweet amenities.

    Pleasant and Relaxing

    PROS Positives: Barbara, the owner, was very helpful and informative from the booking and throughout my stay here. The local people were all very kind and supportive for new yogie like me. There were a good variety of classes to choose from daily. Overall, better than what I expected.

    Can't wait to come back!!!

    CONS Negatives: The only negative I could think of and it's not very big... there were a few muggy days, (which is unusual for Cali) that I wish there was AC in the room.

    PROS Positives: I LOVED staying at the Santa Barbara Yoga Center. The yoga classes were wonderful and the instructors were so kind and insightful. The location is perfect because you are literally right in the middle of everything! You are by State St. the beach, short drive to the mountains for hiking. The room is clean and comfy and super great for doing yoga and meditation because there are props and yoga mats to use whenever you'd like.

    Wonderful

    CONS Negatives: I loved the apartment, however, the sole negative aspect was with the entrance to the guest accommodations. I really wished there was a secondary locking mechanism- slider or chain - on the apartment door to supplement the deadbolt on the street-facing, outward- swinging door. For my comfort level, security needed to be a little more ramped up.

    PROS Positives: The instructors were extremely knowledgeable and offered a great class environment. One can tell they were very passionate and knew their craft. They were all very friendly and welcoming.

    Loved the flexibility, location and classes!

    CONS Negatives: The biggest change that would improve the experience would be to have good coverings for the windows, several have no covering, and the two that do work fine for privacy but do not keep any light out. The room at night is almost as bright as during the day - bring eye shades.

    PROS Positives: The location of the studio/apartment are the best you could want in Santa Barbara. One block off the main street so quite quiet. Within walking distance of 90% of what Santa Barbara has to offer, from the beach to the Funk Zone to the Mission, with museums, shops and food and drink in between. The ability to choose the classes you wanted to take was great - we went to five different classes with four different teachers and all were excellent.

    Perfect Get

    PROS Positives: Perfect getaway when you only have a few days. I left totally relaxed and feel that I made good progress with my yoga practice and enjoyed trying out new types of yoga.. Beware that if you are not used to daily yoga, you will get back feeling sore!

    "I had a wonderful and relaxing stay at Santa Barbra Yoga Center. Everyone was nice and helpful all the time. They have a lot of different styles of yoga, and its worth to try everything. The teachers helped me to improve my yoga and cared about my wellbeing. The apartment was well furnished and clean. I had everything I needed. I would highly recommend the SBYC."

    "This was a truly beautiful and peaceful space. The bed was so comfortable I honestly haven't slept that well in a long time. The location to Santa Barbara central district was perfect. Everything was walkable. There is a very pleasant and inviting outdoor space, which is technically public to the studio, but in the evenings is really more like a private space. We had several evening meals and morning coffees at the table, and chairs surrounded by bamboo plants. I had a very convenient parking space as well. Barbara was kind and welcoming. She checked in with me just the right amount of times and had great suggestions. Took my first Iyengar yoga class, complementary, and loved it so much I registered for Iyengar classes here in Chicago. Wish I could have taken advantage of more classes."

    "I had a wonderful stay. Quiet, clean, and convenient to walk downtown. And the yoga classes were amazing. Everyone was super friendly, welcoming, and helpful. We learned so much from the knowledgeable teachers. I discovered Iyenger yoga, and am hooked. My boyfriend had never done yoga before, and now is hooked too. Barbara was helpful and engaging, as were all the yoga instructors."

    "Lovely building, bright, and clean studios with great teachers. The reception area always has fresh water, tea and cut up oranges and the front desk is very helpful. The prices are quite fair for the level of expertise that you get in the classes. Easy parking, especially in the morning. A great place to do yoga."

    "The instructors here are great, and the classes are excellent. I always leave feeling calm and invigorated. I like that the teachers offer adaptations to poses so that they are accessible and challenging no matter what your level of expertise is. The building is beautiful and serene. There's always plenty of street parking in the morning. The receptionists are welcoming. The prices are an excellent value."
