The combination of Yin yoga and myofascial release techniques are proven to be very effective ways of maintaining healthy, supple tissues and balance in the nervous system. During this course, you will focus on anatomy, theory, teaching principles, and examine the basic postures of Yin yoga. At the end of the training, you are sure to leave with a better understanding of the theories of roll and release and Yin yoga as effective methods of myofascial release, among other things.
You will be accommodated at Daku Resort. Daku Resort is a place of timeless magic. Tucked away from what little hustle and bustle there is, it is a place to relax and enjoy the hospitality of the (always smiling) Fijian culture. It offers all the pleasures of a traditional bay side resort without the prices of five-star resort life.
With a mix of villas, houses, and bures, the setting for this training offers you a quiet, beautiful, and lush tropical garden overlooking Savusavu Bay. It's that combination of comfortable accommodation, good food, great setting, and fabulous staff that has made Daku Resort Savusavu's top rated choice.
This 100-hour course meets approximately seven to eight hours a day, with one full day off in the middle of the course. The schedule for the duration of the program is as follows.
Mornings will start with meditation followed by breakfast. Then you immediately start with anatomy (fun, hands-on, visual, and partner work) so that you have a solid base line of anatomical knowledge and familiarity. It is the only way to embody your own anatomy, understand later course work (how to rehydrate fascia), and recognize skeletal variations which is an important feature in Yin yoga postures.
You will have a lot of fun learning or reviewing all the major muscles and bony landmarks as they apply to your work with myofascial rolling and Yin postures. You touch upon all modalities of learning (i.e. tactile, kinesthetic, auditory - call and response, and visual aids) so that all learning styles are recognized. To truly embody anatomy is paramount in going any further in the work.
With a deeper understanding and embodiment of anatomy, you move on to the theories of myofascial (roll and) release and Yin yoga. You review your anatomy by rolling out specific areas of the body, sequences that will melt adhesions and hydrate the fascia so that you regain mobility, enhance your proprioception, and down regulate your nervous system. The sequences are powerful and you can modify and add nuances appropriate for each practitioner.
After introducing fascial mapping following the work of renowned rolfer, Thomas Myers, you then start to lay down a foundation of traditional Chinese medicine meridian lines that gets layered over the fascial mapping. Keep in mind that these are two different systems with a lot of overlap, but it's useful to understand them both.
You will have periodic labs where you will detail all the basic postures of Yin yoga, examine skeletal variations both on images and on each other, and demonstrate pose variations which will include the use of props. This will help to illustrate the great range of variety in structural mobility, or a lack thereof, and then from there how to teach one posture in several ways by the simple use of props and a little creativity.
Techniques on how to release the diaphragm will be introduced and you will delve into breath work to add a level of depth to your existing pranayama practice. Throughout the course you will have light discussion and journaling assignments revolving around yoga psychology, Taoist alchemy (traditional Chinese medicine), and Buddhist philosophies. You will be introduced to Qi and meridian theories, as well as five elements and the Taoist principles of Yin and Yang in greater detail.
This course will leave you ready and able to teach a one to one and a half-hour roll and release class, a one to one and a half-hour Yin yoga class, or a one to one and a half-hour combination Yin yoga and roll and release class.
A minimum of one-year yoga experience is required.
This teacher training will take place at Daku Resort, located on the second largest island of Fiji, Savusavu. Savusavu is on the south coast of Vanua Levu Island and is known as "the hidden paradise of Fiji“. Nestled in a deep bay, the gorgeous harbor town backdropped by emerald hills has a beautiful marina dotted with a growing waterfront of shops and cafes. However, Savusavu remains secluded and blissfully peaceful as the majority of the land is unkempt rain forest and rugged coastline waiting to be discovered.
During your stay, you will be provided with three daily organic meals.
With the sea directly in front of the resort, you are seconds away from either dipping your toes in the water, going for a swim, or snorkeling along the local coral reef filled with thriving sea life. If you prefer the jungle, the mountain climbs up steeply behind the resort, affording magnificent views as part of an invigorating walk through the rain forest.
Additionally, there are a myriad of activities to enjoy in the off time, including visits to Namena Marine Park, Waisali Rainforest Reserve, snorkel or dive at world famous Rainbow Reef (home to over 2.000 species of fish and over 200 coral), enjoy hot springs, waterfalls, pearl farms, tropical gardens, or experience the cultural sounds, smells, and tastes at any of the local markets.
