Christmas in Punakha. The Christmas days are organized in a moving way (yoga and hiking), in silence (meditation with monks), rituals in nature and a lightful ceremony.

Between 1627-1907 Punakha was the capital of the country and ruled from the Dzong. You will visit this impressive monastery castle, which is the only one not on a mountain, but between the rivers Mochhu (mother river) and Pochhu (father river).

Afterwards you drive along the river and walk along rice fields to the temple Khamsum Yulley Lhakhang. This temple was built in the nineties in honour of all sentient beings. The view over the Punakha Valley is unique.

The last day of the year 2019! After the morning meditation we begin with our ritual, which will accompany us throughout the day. Around noon we drive to Kychu Temple, which was built in the 7th century. It is one of the oldest and most important temples. A ceremony awaits us.

We hang up our brought prayer flags and let our wishes flutter into the universe. We picnic a little below the pass and then drive back to Paro.

Depending on your physical condition it takes between 3-4 hours for the 800 meters altitude difference to reach the temple. The way is well developed and easy to walk. It is a pilgrim path that has been used for years.

Hardly anyone can escape the fascination that this unique building exudes and many mystical and magical things are told. You will hear them when you are there. The rest of the day is at your free disposal. In the evening a ritual awaits you again, where you can look forward to it.
