Traveling in August: you either love it or hate it. The weather is gorgeous in the Northern Hemisphere. The hot weather in Europe and North America means crowds and high prices but also a lot of things to do. Whereas in South East Asia, it’s monsoon season which is a great excuse to travel during the low season and save some money.

Yet again we’ve looked at the number of people who have already inquired about a yoga retreat in August.

In this article, we talk about three countries to consider visiting in August if you want to go on a yoga retreat.

Festivals and Yoga in the USA

Golden Gate Bridge

August is the best time to check out a variety of festivals across the USA. Fancy seafood? Then don’t miss the Maine Lobster Festival which stars fresh, delicious red lobsters, good music, as well as games and rides for children.

Head to Outside Lands in the Golden Gate Park, San Francisco for music, food, wine, beer, art, and comedy. It is especially interesting for those who want to indulge in good food, as many local restaurants, as well as tasty food trucks, show their best dishes.

With all that food, you probably want to head to some yoga classes, too! San Francisco has a wealth of option and it’s also the first city to have set up a yoga room at the airport! Seattle, Boise, and San Diego also offer a lot of yoga class options for practitioners.

Hot weather is the norm in August in the USA. Copious amounts of sunscreen should be used and don’t forget to properly hydrate, too. Places such as Las Vegas and Phoenix turn into ovens, but there are enough others to check out and not feel like dinner. Boston sees an average of 22 C / 71.6 F, New York 29 C / 84.2 F, while in Los Angeles the average is 25 C / 77 F.

Trekking and Yoga in India

India

Take advantage of the low season in India and enjoy places at an affordable price. The monsoon season makes nature lush and delights us with incredible shades of green and misty sights. Munnar in Kerala is a great choice if you are looking for quiet time in the mountains. Agumbe in Karnataka is one of the most popular tracks in Asia. In August, thanks to the rainfall, the waterfalls look amazing. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands aren’t to be missed either. When it rains, you can do things indoors.

As you might have guessed, finding places to do yoga in India is not hard at all. Rishikesh is the capital of yoga, but you can find classes in Goa, Mysore, and Pune, as well.

August falls right in the monsoon season, which lasts from June to September. The southwest coast is particularly wet and hot, but the north of the country is sunny and drier. And while no one wants rain during their vacation, showers are intense but short, so you can still enjoy lovely weather! Mumbai, the largest city in the country, sees an average temperature of 27.2 C / 81 F and 27 days of precipitation; Kolkata bakes at 29 C / 84.2 F and it gets even hotter in Delhi (29.9 C / 85.8 F although there are only 8 days of precipitation).

Surfing and Yoga in Portugal

Portugal coast

Summertime in Portugal means one thing: hit the beach! Whether you like to swim, sunbath, walk on the beach or try some water sports, August is just perfect for this. Don’t forget to use the sunscreen and hydrate properly, though!

Gorgeous weather and warm nights also mean time spent outside in the evening. Enjoy one of the many restaurants. Just remember that dinner in the Mediterranean starts at around 11 pm during the summer! Word is, grilled fish is amazing now!

Too hot for you? Visit some amazing museums to get a respite from the heat.

Portugal seems like the best place which combines mountains, ocean, and culture. Oh and yoga! You are spoiled for choices of studios in Lisbon, but you can also find great retreats in the Algarve or on the islands.

August is the height of summer, with high temps and little to no rain. While the Algarve enjoy a typical Mediterranean climate, the west coast is warmed by the Gulf Stream. The islands are even hotter. But the summer weather is perfect if you look to do some sunbathing or try surfing in Portugal!

The average temperature in Lisbon is 23 C / 73.4 F, in Funchal 22.6 C / 72.7 F, whereas it’s a bit cooler in Porto which gets an average of 20.1 C / 68.2 F.
