GYMEA Eco Retreat Center and Healing Spa is a sustainable eco retreat venue and healing spa positioned at the base of the majestic Wollumbin, or Mount Warning, in the northern rivers region of New South Wales. The property and facilities provide a rejuvenative and re-energizing environment that supports retreats of transformation, including health, spiritual, yoga, meditation and energetic retreats.

The retreat venue is a purpose built residential retreat center and offers retreat's hosts and guests with a complete retreat experience. Single and twin share accommodation for 40 is offered through 20 beautifully appointed eco, en-suite double rooms. Full day spa with therapists and facilities, a commercial kitchen and dining multi-purpose hall called The Octagon, and a resort-style magnesium pool, as well as beautiful grounds, settings, and rainforest walks are also offered. You can be paired with a lovely roommate when you are coming by yourself.

Picture floating back home with a calmer mind, a stronger body you are more connected to, and new skills to navigate everyday life. Feel the effect of the time spent in this retreat rippling out to those around you. That is the power of yoga!

This retreat combines the healing power of yoga and meditation with the inner peace and mental balance that comes with escaping to a gorgeous natural location. Nestled in the serene greenery of Uki, New South Wales, Australia, this experience will whisk you away from everyday life to uplift and inspire you as you mingle with other like-minded guests.

With daily sessions of yoga and meditation classes, self-discovery workshops, healthy cooking demonstrations, and plenty of free time for you to relax, unwind, and take in the breathtaking scenery, you have complete freedom to make your own schedule and take part in as many or as few activities as you want.

The classes are based on the traditional Hatha yoga style and more specifically it can be described as Purna yoga. Purna is a Sanskrit word meaning “complete” and Purna yoga is an evolving system using a wide variety of inspiring and effective techniques to address your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual needs.

This means that besides the asana, which are the physical postures that most people associate with yoga, you will also focus on breathing techniques, meditation, and yoga philosophy. The teachers are very experienced in leading classes with options for students from beginners to experienced, while modifying poses to take into account people’s injuries.

Sample program

At 6:30 a.m. join the morning sun salutations, to greet the day, out in nature by the lake. Breakfast will be prepared by the private chef and you will have the option to enjoy all your meals indoors or out on the deck overlooking the forest. From 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., there will be a nature connection workshop in the peaceful forest, followed by a yoga class that will take place from 10 a.m to 11:30 a.m.

After lunch, you will have some free time to take a nap, wander around the beautiful grounds, or practice your meditation out in nature or in the beautiful yoga room. You will also have the opportunity to be pampered with a deluxe facial or massage by the highly experienced therapists at the on-site day spa. From 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., a yoga philosophy session on how to live your yoga will take place.

From 4:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m., join a gentle, restorative yoga and meditation session, which will be followed by a delicious, healthy, and nourishing feast for dinner. At 8:30 p.m., a deeply relaxing guided meditation with yoga Nidra will send you into a peaceful sleep. Please note that this is just a sample schedule and it is subject to change. All activities are optional and you are free to do as much or as little as you like.

Having hosted 17 retreats in the last couple of years alone, Kara is well-experienced in giving you personalised attention and guidance and taking you on a journey away from your usual life, showing you ways to implement yoga and meditation practices so that they become a natural part of your daily life.
Merryl Simpson
When not retreating, Merryl works as a teacher at an environmental education center, where she is fortunate to combine many of her passions in a role that truly makes a difference, by facilitating nature connection for children and adults. Merryl is a passionate yogi with a dedicated daily practice in her rainforest backyard. On retreat, Merryl runs moving and reflective workshops where she will share the beauty and wonder of nature with you and truly support you to make deeply personal and respectful connections to the environment, to yourself, and to others.

My Yoga Retreat is well-known for their delectable dishes that are both healthy and nourishing. With a full menu of raw and cooked food, as well as freshly ground plunger coffee that you can help yourself to at any time, retreating from your regular life does not mean you have to give up your creature comforts. All meals are prepared by the private chef and are included in the price.

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Gold Coast Airport (OOL). My Yoga Retreat Australia has an airport pickup service from this airport on Friday at one set time in the early afternoon. Usually there are a few people requiring this service and the cost is shared.
