Join LBJ Adventures for a guided yoga, scuba diving, and cultural tour on the island of Cozumel, Mexico. If you are new to diving, then it is perfect for you. The dive package includes an open water certification for new divers. If you are new to yoga, beginners are also welcome! Carrie has a lot of experience in teaching non-yogis how to stretch and breathe while still offering experienced yogis a challenging or Restorative sequence. During the retreat, you will be staying at Blue Angel Resort. It is a quaint, boutique dive hotel located on the water's edge and is walking distance from the center of town. All the rooms have a private balcony with an ocean and sunset view. The room has a private bathroom with a shower, open closet, in-room safe, refrigerator and mini bar, and daily room cleaning.
You can choose from rooms with a king bed or two double beds. You may also choose from shared rooms with another person or a private room. If you are a group of three or four, let LBJ Adventures know and they can arrange a room with two double beds.
After you arrive on Cozumel Island, you will be greeted by a personal guide from LBJ Adventures to go to the resort. Meet your fellow participants during your welcoming ceremony followed by a gentle yoga practice and group dinner. You will wake up to a tropical day loaded with adventure. Join a poolside yoga practice where you will explore pranayama techniques, a Vinyasa flow, and a short meditation followed by a healthy breakfast.
Walk to the dock, jump on a boat, and experience two amazing drift dives in warm tropical waters. Rest for a while in a hammock or in your ocean-view room and then join a guided journaling session followed by a group dinner in town at a restaurant located outside of the traditional tourist area. On the non-dive days, you can explore the Mayan ruins and the Mayan chocolate factory, eat lunch in town, and visit small boutique shops.
On the last night of the trip, enjoy a sunset yoga practice on the beach with local yogis and enjoy cocktails during social hour. On the last day, say goodbye to your new friends during your final yoga practice and a closing ceremony.
For beginners, you will get an open water dive certification, and for certified scuba divers, you will have four days of diving, one night dive, and unlimited shore dives. If you prefer not to dive, LBJ Adventures can facilitate other activities for all non-divers based on your preferences. These could include snorkeling tours, bicycle tours, or other activities. Just let them know what you are interested in.
During the retreat, you will have excursions to Mayan ruins and Mayan chocolate factory tour. You will also have a chance to visit a town market.
Carrie Johnson is an international blogger and explorer, mala designer, and a yoga teacher who is known for her thoughtful exploration of mindfulness, culture, and physicality. She had 300 hours of training in Power Vinyasa and is studying Yin yoga with Leah Adams this summer. For over 10 years, she had a successful career in biology and she co-authored five peer-reviewed scientific publications. Now, she infuses her yoga classes with sound and scientific principles, as well as experimentation in each yoga sequence she creates for her students.
Stephen Lilie is a retired navy fighter pilot and is now is a world traveler. He will be co-hosting all dive experiences.
Jody is a logistics coordinator. She will be leading the evening walk for those who prefer not to join the night dive. She will also lead the Mayan chocolate factory tour.
The retreat will take place on Cozumel Island. It is located off the eastern shore of the Yucatan Peninsula, across Playa del Carmen. Cozumel is Mexico's largest Caribbean Island and has a subtropical climate. Most of the scuba diving sites are located in Cozumel Reefs National Marine Park, which protects the second largest barrier reef system in the world.
This location was chosen by LBJ Adventures as Carrie and Steve have traveled here on multiple occasions and have had time to experience the amazing diving, to explore restaurants and find amazing local food, and to find cultural gems that many tourists will never have time to experience.
You will be served daily breakfast, which will be provided at the hotel. There are many options available from local fruit selections, eggs and omelets, or a Mexican-style breakfast. On dive days, snacks will be provided, including fruit, pastries, and other local foods. Lunches and dinners will be at various restaurants around town. Select your own food choices from an amazing array of Mayan, Mexican, or other various options. Please note that lunches and dinners are not included in the price.
There is also a restaurant available at Blue Angel Resort, which is open from 7 a.m. until 11 p.m., catering fresh made to order meals at fantastic prices. It is located on the second floor, providing a fabulous ocean view for every meal.
Please book your flight to arrive at Cozumel International Airport (CZM). Once there, a guide will be waiting for you to provide transportation to the resort. Alternatively, you can also book your flight to arrive at Cancún International Airport (CUN) which costs less money. Once in Cancun, you can catch a bus to the center of Playa del Carmen and then take a ferry to go to Cozumel Island.
