Mountain Retreat Center offers 18 bedrooms. The rooms are simple and cozy. Some bedrooms have their own bathrooms, some have a sink within the room and bathroom and toilets are shared on the floor. All rooms have a view of the beautiful landscape.

On the ground floor, there is the heart of the center - the meditation hall. There is a Japanese-style zendo with a lot of windows facing the breathtaking mountains and access to a sun terrace. A warm and cozy room is also provided for the practice of yoga.

In the garden around the center, there are some spots for relaxing. The area is very popular for hiking, winter sports, recreation and fresh air. At the Mountain Retreat Center, the aim is to create a place where you can retire and recharge, a place for meeting like-minded people.

In times of abundance, social media overflow, consumerism, speed and growth, the center offers a place of silence and simplicity. It is the ideal environment for reconnecting with your inner source and strength.

This place is ideal for you when you seek rest from busy life, you value the simplicity of being, you want to dedicate yourself to reflection and contemplation, and you want to enjoy the powerful energy of the Alps.


There will be a daily schedule with periods of sitting and walking meditation as well as yoga. Weather permitting, you might do walking meditation as a group outside and in silence. This retreat will be mostly in silence with some opportunities to share and discuss among participants during some times of the day.

Meditation instructions will be offered together with talks and group / individual discussions. Each day, there will be a meditation theme. You will start by developing mindfulness of the breath and then include mindfulness of body, sounds, feelings and mental states.

The practice of loving-kindness and appreciative joy will also be introduced. Indigourlaub's intention is to cultivate concentration and inquiry so that you can develop quietness and clarity.

During your time together, you will focus on the integration of mindfulness in all aspects of your life. In this way, you can experience directly the effect of paying attention in a caring and careful way and develop the intention to apply what you have learned in your daily life.

Martine Batchelor
Martine Batchelor lived in Korea as a Zen nun under the guidance of Master Kusan for ten years. She is the author of Meditation for Life, The Path of Compassion, Women in Korean Zen and Let Go: A Buddhist Guide to Breaking Free of Habits. She is a member of the Gaia House Teacher Council. She teaches meditation retreats worldwide and lives in France. Her latest work is The Spirit of the Buddha.
Sophie Boyer
Sophie Boyer comes from France. She worked for several years as a nurse in hospice services in France and Switzerland. For a couple of years, she lived as a practicing Buddhist nun in Myanmar (Burma), and also attended long-term silent retreats at the Insight Meditation Society, USA. She has practiced meditation for many years.
Katrin Heyde
Katrin is a long time practitioner of yoga and meditation, having trained mostly in the Theravada and Zen traditions. She also studied with T. K. V. Desikachar while in India. In 2012, she participated in the CDPP program at Gaia House and is at present completing the Secular Dharma program with the Bodhi College. Trained as a physiotherapist, Katrin is currently taking time out of South Africa where she lives. More recently, she has been working in England and Europe.

Retreat Ort

Mountain Retreat Center is located in Germany. It is in the small village of Sachrang, right at the border to Tyrol / Austria. The retreat center is only a 15-minute drive away from the highway A8 connecting Munich to Salzburg. Tranquil and modest, it is situated on a hillside, overlooking the little village with only a few restaurants, one shop, church and some housing. The view of the surrounding mountains is breathtaking.

If you want to exercise in fresh air, you can hike right from the house whether in winter and summer. The most popular peaks nearby are Spitzstein, Geigerstein, and Kampenwand. The next little towns are Aschau im Chiemgau (13 kilometers away) or Kufstein in Tyrol (15 kilometers away). The famous Lake Chiemsee is about 23 kilometers from Sachrang. Visits to Salzburg or Tyrol are also worthwhile.

The Mountain Retreat Center serves only vegetarian, mainly organic food. They can cater for vegan, lactose or gluten-free in a limited way and only with prior notice. They then offer a selection of steamed vegetables, pulses and carbohydrates.

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Munich Airport (MUC) or Salzburg Airport (SZG). Transfer from and to this airport is available upon request.

Indigourlaub can arrange a shuttle service for a fee from / to the airport. Munich Airport (one and a half hours) and Salzburg Airport (one hour) are the closest airports.
