Charlotte Watts and Cortijo Romero's aim is to give you a true holiday where you take back far more than a suntan and souvenirs. You will be nurtured and refreshed, find new friends as well as a deeper sense of yourself. The design of this retreat is ultimately targeted on in-depth discovery of yourself and more understanding of your body. You will be guided on understanding the many side-effects of stress and on learning what you need to do to avoid them altogether. Through the weeks yoga practices, exercises and fun, you will have broadened your knowledge considerably to manage your daily stress effectively long after the retreat is over.

Cortijo Romero is a holiday centre like no other as it is nestled among spectacular mountains in enclosed gardens. The first thing that visitors realize is its harmony, beauty and ambience. The original farm house is built around an enclosed courtyard, with the main group room opening off it. It has a large flat roof used for yoga, Tai Chi, socialising and star-gazing. The pool is a curved, natural shape, cocooned in a picturesque, walled enclosure with palm trees, flowers and the scent of jasmine. As the area is completely private, swimming costumes are optional.
There are several splendid garden areas, with abundant sub-tropical flowers, fruit and trees, open and secluded spaces, intriguing scents and colours of every hue. There is also a beautiful meditation room. Around a delightful dining patio are grouped an indoor dining room, a lounge with a log fire for chillier winter evenings and a second group room which can also be used for reading, music and other activities. The bedrooms are simple but comfortably furnished in local style, all with bath or shower, and central heating in winter. Most are singles or twins, with a few doubles.
The site is terraced, which adds to the charm but may not be easy for those with severe physical disabilities. To overcome this, some ramps have been constructed and the staff is always ready to help whenever possible. All you need to do is but ask. This is not a hotel, but more like a large private home, entirely devoted to personal development holidays. It is truly unique, with a very special beauty.
Based on her book The De-Stress Effect, Charlotte Watts guides you to feel the effects that your own challenges have left and meet how your stresses are showing in your body. This week is designed to both help you come back to whole and explore how you can naturally protect yourself from the effects of stress, through an explorative yoga practice, body awareness, mindfulness and nutritional choices. In this way, you can help yourself to become calmer, more able to cope and free from stress-related symptoms such as anxiety, depression, insomnia, IBS, weight gain and skin issues.
Whether you have experience in any of these fields or are meeting them for the first time, Charlottes ability to put them into the context of modern life, explain the science in a palatable way and help you understand your own cravings and responses will help create new habits to help you adapt and become more resilient to lifes pressures. All topics covered will be practiced experientially, so you can feel, rather than think your way to calm, happiness and health.
You will be having one whole day (usually on a Tuesday) dedicated to an excursion.
Cortijo Romero sits at 1300 feet in a fertile valley, within an 800-year old olive grove, surrounded by magnificent mountain views during the day. At night, watching the stars over the mountains at midnight from the roof is a magical experience! Nearby, Granada has the finest Moorish palace and gardens in Europe, the breathtaking Alhambra - one of the wonders of the world.
The local town is rgiva, the regional administrative centre, a 15-minute walk away. It has a typical weekly market, banks and all basic shopping facilities. Further up in the mountains is a string of wonderful villages (many protected from development by special status) tucked into sheltered hillsides amidst glorious scenery at heights up to 5700 feet.

All the food is vegetarian including eggs and dairy produce, using as much local and organic produce as possible.
