A hidden gem in the center of Bahia, on a ridgetop looking over the ocean, sits a small private hotel. Where we have a private room for you, your room with bath contains a sitting area and a mini fridge, a long porch with hammocks and an open communal kitchen to hang out in and share meals. Because of its hilltop location, it is a bit cooler at night and often has a light breeze.

It is centrally located in the residential area of the village. Walk down the hill and out to the south 1 kilometer to the beach or in the other direction into town.

Everyday, you will have asana practice and meditation for two hours, a breakfast break, and then another two hour class before breaking over lunch. After that, you will have a long afternoon session. The studio is fully equipped, no need to bring any yoga gear with you. You will be breaking each day before sunset, so that you can take a swim, and enjoy the beauty of the Uvita sunsets. A couple of nights a week, you will have a reading assignment, or a practicum to work on. Sundays are free days to rest, play, or explore.

  • Lura Shopteau

    Founder Lura Shopteau has been registered as an ERYT500 since 2004 and is the only certified Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT) living in Costa Rica at this time. Lura's dedication​ ​to yoga and wellbeing have been the focus of her path for the last 17 years studying with teachers in the U.S., Costa Rica and India. She has deep experience in patient work teaching Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (meditation), working as a counselor and yoga therapist with chronically ill and terminally ill clients. After 12 years of working in Integrative Medicine, she returned to live in Costa Rica full time.

Uvita is a small village on the southern Pacific coast of Costa Rica. It is the center of a unique area called Costa Ballena and the home of Marina Ballena National Park. Bienestar is located on a hilltop looking at the sea with the sweet smells of tropical flowers in bloom, enjoy the gentle and constant breeze, while we practice yoga and meditation, mindfulness and serenity, and at times, crazy joy and a lot of laughter.

On each class day, you will be served with a local organic whole foods breakfast including yogurt, granola, and a selection of fruit each morning. Feel free to make a smoothy or juice. Lunch is a large fresh locally grown organic salad to eat there or to take out. Vegetarian or Vegan. A selection of tea's and herbal waters, pipa's (coconut water) are available all day.
