This fully catered three-day retreat will feature a one-day Bhakti Fest celebration on Saturday. Workshops, yoga, music, and beautiful food will fill the day and there will be an epic heart-opening five-hour Ahkanda Kirtan in the evening featuring guest musicians. Join the full three-day program for an uplifting weekend of music and sound. Or just come for the Bhakti Fest on Saturday and sing powerful kirtan into the night. The retreat will start on Friday morning at 10:00 (arrival / registration), and finish on Sunday at 11:00.

    Swami Karma Karuna specializes in women’s health. By blending yogic lifestyle and sannyasa tradition with motherhood, she brings a unique and practical approach, inspiring the integration of yogic principles into everyday activities.

  • Caitlin Halliwell

    Caitlin Halliwell is a mother, gifted local singer, and songwriter. She uses mantra and chanting as healing vibrations, finding them the ultimate way to purify mind, body, and soul. As she introduces each chant, Caitlin explains the meaning behind the Sanskrit words, painting a highly evocative image and luring us into the world of gods, goddesses, and light.

  • Swami Kailash Saraswati

    Swami Kailash Saraswati has studied and lived in yoga ashrams in New Zealand and India from an early age. From this background, he brings a practical, simple, and joyful perspective on all aspects of yoga and particularly shares his love of Mantra, Nada Yoga, and Kirtan. Swami Kailash is a warm and engaging teacher and has been teaching yoga for more than twenty-five years, most recently in Australasia, India, and Korea. He is the founder of Srinivasa Yoga House in Hamilton, New Zealand.

  • Lis Martinac

    Based in the North Island, Lis runs many workshops on mindfulness, self-love, the divine feminine, and the joyful singing of Kirtan.

Anahata Yoga Retreat is located in beautiful Golden Bay, New Zealand, in the northwest part of the South Island. It is situated 640 meters (2000 feet) above sea level, at an idyllic spot called Bird's Clearing, overlooking Golden Bay and the Abel Tasman National Park. The closest town is Takaka. The two closest airports are Takaka Aerodrome (KTF) (limited service link) and Nelson Airport (NSN). Anahata Yoga Retreat is 15 kilometers from Takaka, with the last seven kilometers being unsealed. You will have to cross five small fords. A 4WD vehicle is helpful, but many people drive up in 2WD cars without any problem.

Please note that Anahata is half an hour away from any shops, banks, or internet cafes. Please attend to any needs in town before you come to Anahata.

Driving directions from Nelson

  • From Nelson, which is the main city in the north part of the South Island, travel west through the town of Motueka.
  • After crossing the Takaka Hill from Nelson, you will drive towards and into Takaka.
  • Turn right immediately past the Visitors Centre (don't go through Takaka).
  • Follow the road to the roundabout at the dairy factory and turn right.
  • Drive towards Pohara Beach for about ten minutes.
  • The road curves on a big right and then a big left. You will pass Motupipi School (on left), then take the next turn right at the Clifton ‘+’ crossroads.
  • Turn right at the next ‘T’ junction at Carlyle Street.
  • Follow this road to the next T-junction and turn left continuing on Clifton Road.
  • As you turn, you will see an orange "Anahata Retreat" sign. You will come to a gravel road and a sign saying Bird Road.
  • Follow the gravel road (Bird Road) up to the top of the mountain (seven kilometers).
  • You will notice a sign part way up the hill with several family names on it. This is a private driveway / road to their house. Continue on the past this drive.
  • When you are half way up you will come to two gates side-by-side. Go through the left gate (not the one going down the hill to the farm).
  • When you arrive at the top after approximately 30 minutes driving, you will see a little sign on the other side of the top gate to the right that says Abel Tasman - Wainui Hut. Go through this gate and follow the same gravel / dirt road heading a little left.
  • On your left (a hundred meters or so), you will see a row of big Pine Trees, a house, and some gardens. There is an “Anahata” sign on the fence to the right of the gate.

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Nelson Airport (NSN).

Nelson Airport (NSN) is the main national airport for the region and is a two-hour drive from Takaka. Alternatively, you can fly directly from Wellington International Airport (WLG) to a small airport in Takaka, Takaka Aerodrome (KTF).

Arrival by bus

Golden Bay Coachlines offers daily services from Nelson to Takaka departs Nelson daily at 15:30, arriving in Takaka at 17:45.

Arrival by shuttle

There is a complimentary shuttle available from the Takaka i-site, leaving at 17:45 on Thursday, January 18, 2018. On Sunday, January 21, you can take a return trip at 11:00 back to Takaka i-site.
