The 500-hour yoga teacher training course in India aims to take your passion for learning authentic traditional yoga forward. The base yoga style of the course is Ashtanga Vinyasa flow. However, the course will also give you a taste of many different styles of yoga (Hatha, Restorative, Yin, etc.) as well as subjects like pranayama, kriyas, and meditations. You will also receive an in-depth study of yoga philosophy, anatomy, and physiology.

Abhinam Yoga School is a yoga center located near Morjim Beach in North Goa, India. At the northern side of Chopdem river, Morjim is blessed with an abundant blossoming green environment and extraordinary wildlife in the form of Olive Ridley turtles. The center with its rooftop yoga shala and the scenic view of the sparkling North Goa beach front provides an absolute sense of serenity and joy to all.

Accommodation (sharing and non-sharing basis, depending on the number of students) includes hot shower, attached bathrooms, and western toilet. Accommodations are allocated on the day when the course starts. You are expected to check out the day following your graduation ceremony i.e. day after your course ends. Wi-Fi facility is available at the school.

Course objectives

The 500-hour yoga teacher training course in India is an extensive course designed to nurture your passion for learning authentic traditional yoga. The course, which is suited for yoga students of all levels, aims to guide students on different yoga related subjects to deepen their insight and approach to yogic living. Subjects like meditation, yogic breathing techniques (pranayama), yogic cleansing (kriyas), mantra chanting (Bhakti yoga), yoga anatomy, and physiology are extensively practiced. Hence, the course offers a perfect balance of the physical and the philosophical aspects of yoga.

Prerequisite

For 500 hours TTC course, the students must have practiced Ashtanga Yoga for at least a period of three months before joining the course.

Abhinam Yoga Center does not expect you to master all the poses or be super flexible before you join the course. All they expect from you before coming to the teacher training is that you have a regular practice of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga (two to three times a week is enough). They will be teaching you all the poses with correct alignment. As a student, you just need to have fun and practice playfully.

Abhinam Yoga Center follows the syllabus set by Yoga Alliance Professionals and incorporates training hours in the following modules:

Techniques, training, and practice

  • In-depth practice of Ashtanga Vinyasa primary series
  • Learning to master and teach certain asanas from Ashtanga Vinyasa intermediate series with the help of props
  • Theory and in-depth practice of mantras, kriyas, pranayamas (with bandhas) and various techniques of meditation
  • Asana practice is focused on developing the quality of body alignment, observation, and sharpening awareness of deeper physiological processes while performing an asana.
  • Learning the Sanskrit language to master names of asanas
  • Bhakti yoga which includes mantra chanting, kirtans, and satsang
  • Karma yoga
  • Ayurvedic yoga massage to learn hands-on adjustments

Teaching methodology

  • Learning the art of alignment and hands-on adjustment with the help of props
  • Workshops on demonstration of asanas, restorative yoga, yoga for specific groups of people and yoga to deal with common ailments including joint pain, back pain, thyroid, diabetes, etc.

Practicum

  • Leading Ashtanga Vinyasa primary series classes
  • Being able to teach specific asanas from intermediate series separately (only after the approval from the course director)
  • Creating and leading a Vinyasa flow-led class
  • Assisting lead trainers, observing, and receiving feedback accordingly

Tutorials, assignment, and exam

  • Students will be required to engage in self-study and submit daily and weekly assignments on the day's lectures and discussions.
  • There will be a practical and a theory exam at the end of the course to assess the students on their learning, practice, and teaching during the one-month teacher training course.

Note: You may expect between 9 to 12 hours per week on written assignments and class observations. The homework is based on the topics covered in the class. Assignments are based on the guidelines provided for yoga teachers and internet marketing.

Attendance requirements

In order to get certified, you must attend all the classes to complete your hours. However, some situations might arise where you missed few classes say due to sickness. In that case, we have the following procedure to tackle that situation:

  • If you missed one or two days then you will need to schedule a private session of at least two hours with a trainer from our school.
  • If you could not attend more than three to seven days then you will need to take the classes in the next training.

Please remember that if the hours are not complete, you will not receive your certificate. Hence, Abhinam Yoga Center strongly recommends attending 100% classes during the whole training.

Important note

Ashtanga yoga intermediate series will be taught only to students who are able to perform Ashtanga yoga primary series successfully in the presence of the lead teacher. This is done to avoid injuries. Students will have no say in this matter. Also, this is not a therapy yoga course.

Located in a placid position between the lush green ranges of the Western Ghats and the warm Arabian Sea softly lapping its shoreline. The tranquil of the coconut groves and cooling breezes flowing through the luscious palm trees offer the perfect location for meditation, pranayama and yoga practice.

Verpflegung

Abhinam Yoga School offers three daily vegetarian sattvik meals. The meals are usually vegan and Abhinam Yoga School rarely uses dairy products. The food is offered from Monday to Saturday (lunch). Students are free to eat and explore cuisines on Saturday's dinner and Sundays.

Sample menu

  • Breakfast: porridge (a dish consisting of oatmeal or another meal or cereal boiled in water or milk) or muesli with yogurt or eggs
  • Lunch: lentils with rice, salad, and veggies
  • Dinner: Indian thali (rice, lentils (a high-protein pulse which is dried and soaked and cooked prior to eating), and some cooked vegetables) or khichdi, a yogic, Ayurvedic, and sattvic food made from rice, vegetables, and lentils. It is considered a light and nutritious food.

Note: The food menu is subject to change according to season and availability.

You can enjoy various activities on Morjim Beach. A fairly quiet beach, it has its share of beach life and activity quotient. Visitors can easily spot the relaxed beach snacks full of yummy local and international cuisine, lively surf, opportunities for swimming enthusiast and some small beach activities. Tourists can also easily get bikes and cycles on rent during their stay.

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Goa International Airport (GOI). Transfer from and to this airport is available upon request. Abhinam Yoga Center can arrange for the airport pick up and drop at an additional charge of 50 USD one way.

The airport is located at Dabolim and there are three major railway stations with trains plying to and from every corner of India. The Morjim Beach is about 70 - 80 kilometers from the airport and 36 kilometers from the nearest major railway station, Pernem. It is quite conveniently connected via taxis and bus routes from most part of Goa as well.
