The Govardhan Eco-Village is a special place to connect with nature, practice yoga, Bhakti, and share life in a sacred rural country-community to experience the original sacred Indian Vedic culture. Guests will be staying in cottages that are made from eco-friendly materials like earth and fiber to invoke a serene and peaceful ambiance. The available accommodation options in this retreat are on a shared room basis.

This is an annual Bhakti yoga immersion program, it is a special gathering of yoga asana, chanting, and spiritual purification. The schedule below is subject to change.

Sample daily schedule

  • 05:00 - 07:30 Daily yoga practice, kirtan (chanting), and meditation
  • 07:30 - 08:30 Breakfast
  • 09:00 - 11:30 Wisdom-study classes, topics include Yoga Ayurveda, Bhakti, and Vedic Ecology
  • 11:30 - 12:30 The group will take a short break
  • 12:30 - 13:30 Lunch
  • 14:00 - 17:30 Variety of offerings Vedic ecology such as permaculture, farm animal care, sustainable living work (seva), and educational classes
  • 18:00 - 19:00 Dinner

There will be an impromptu satsang with Mas Vidal, guests teachers, and swamis from India, to enjoy connecting with other pilgrims. In addition, there will be a one or two-day hike option to the top of a nearby mountain that was an old fort of the great warrior, Shivaji.

  • Mas Vidal

    Mas Vidal is a yogi, mystic, practitioner of Ayurveda, and founder and director of Dancing Shiva Yoga Ayurveda. His teachings are based on the lineage of Paramahansa Yogananda, founder of Self Realization Fellowship.

This retreat will be held at Govardhan Eco-Village, it is a 70-acre sustainable farming community and retreat center on the foothills of the Sahyadhri Mountains. It is well connected by road from Mumbai, India’s financial capital, which is about 108 kilometers from downtown Mumbai. It takes between one and a half to two and a half hours to arrive, depending on traffic conditions.

Daily delicious vegetarian meals will be provided in this retreat, there are variety of dishes for both Indian and Western diets.

There are plenty of other activities nearby, for instance, guests can enjoy Ayurvedic treatments that are available at additional costs, hike to the top of a nearby mountain, and enjoy the outdoor swimming pool facilities onsite.

Arrival by Plane

5Please book your flight to arrive at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (BOM). Transfer from and to the airport is included. Dancing Shiva will pick you up from the airport.

Driving direction from Mumbai

  • Head North on the Western Expressway.
  • Travel north along the western express highway for most of the way.
  • Coming from Mumbai, need to pass by two toll gates, one at Mira Road and another at Virar.
  • After traveling a further 28 kilometers north, take a right turn at Ten Naka (Manor off-ramp).
  • You will come across some land marks like Hotel Decent and Hotel Vegas just before reaching the Ten Naka turn-off.
  • Please note that we are NOT located in WADA but in Galtare, which is nearest Manor/Ten districts.
  • Take the Manor/Ten Naka off-ramp.
  • Just after you take the off-ramp, you will pass the Hotel Taj Inn.
  • Take a right turn under the bridge into Ten Naka.
  • Then travel another three kilometers on this WADA/Manor road and look out for a narrow turn right at Hamrapur Phata.
  • There is metal arch at the entrance of this road.
  • There is also a Govardhan Ecovillage signboard at the entrance of this road.
  • Turn right into Hamrapur Phata/Galtare.
  • Then, travel along this narrow and long winding road for seven kilometers to reach Galtare where Govardhan Ecovillage is located.
  • The destination is on the left of the road and you will see the signboard and bricked wall entrance gates.
  • There is ample car parking inside the property.

Driving direction from Palghar

  • Govardhan Ecovillage can also be reached from Palghar which is 36 kilometers.
  • From the Palghar, take the Manor highway and travel along the Ghat Road to reach Manor.
  • Continue further along the same direction for 3 kilometers to join the Mumbai-Surat national highway (NH8) at Mastan Naka.
  • Take a right turn at Mastan Naka and head south one kilometers to reach Ten Naka.
  • Take a left turn and follow the route described above.

Arrival by Bus

There is a state run public transport bus at 7:30 a.m. from Palghar station that alights directly at Govardhan Ecovillage. The destination of the bus stop is called Galtare.

Arrival by Train

The nearest railway station is Palghar railway station which is 36 kilometers from Govardhan Ecovillage.

Palghar is well connected by train from Mumbai and Gujarat. After arriving at Palghar, then travel by bus or taxi as described above.
