Transformation Yoga Retreat India

Join this amazing retreat specialized in yoga combined with amazing dance techniques. Accommodation

During this retreat, you will stay either in a private or a shared room at the Dancers Cottage. The bathrooms are shared, and open to sky. The Lotus Studio is a beautiful and independent space ideal for a couple or a family and can accommodate up to four persons.

Yoga classes with Irana

Through yoga, you will explore the divine wisdom of nature that lies within. The yoga classes during the mornings will be breath inspired, fluid Vinyasa, and Yin practices, unfolding the body naturally; slow and gentle yet deeply strengthening. The breathing exercises and meditation will liberate your body and mind from inherent imprints for inner freedom and self-awareness to unfold.

Rekha's dance sessions

Each day of the retreat builds on the key yogic practices of kayastharium (stillness) and pranayama (breath expansion), allowing a grounding and awareness of the spinal axis. This becomes a basis for appreciating Indian dance movements in an experiential way. It also develops an understanding of the criteria for excellence in movement based on the tantric body map, which adds graceful fluidity and power to normal body movements.

Instructors

Irana JiAn
Irana JiAn (Yogaratna) is a senior teacher that has been teaching yoga for more than a decade, and living and practicing yoga for more than 20 years. She has dwelt in different lineages of yoga like Shivananda, Ashtanga, Hatha Anousara, Jivamoukti, Bhakti flow, Prana yoga, Vinyasa, Yin yoga, and therapeutics throughout her journey. Her experiential approach brought her to the realization that yoga is a gift and a chance for each individual to rediscover vitality and inner joy.
Doctor Rekha Tandon
Rekhahas pursued an individual path as a classical odissi dancer, choreographer, and researcher. She has 17 years of traditional training in Odissi and was awarded a PhD in dance studies in 2005 from the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, London. Her research has explored the areas of common ground like classical dance, temple architecture, and yoga with The Bihar School of Yoga.

Food

During this retreat, you will be served three delicious vegetarian meal per day. At The Lotus Studio, vegetables and fruits are organically grown in Skandavan’s garden. The cooks are two lovely girls, Mala and Kamala, who cook delicious food that is both South Indian and North Indian. They will cook Indian breakfast, brunch, and dinner for you, daily and with joy and generosity.

Things to do (optional)

During your free time, books, digital video discs will be available. You can also buy some Orissan tribal jewelry and local artifacts.

Explore Auroville

You can explore Auroville during the afternoons and evenings. Some two-wheeler vehicles like scooters can be also requested in advance. The price for the rental of a scooter is approximately 80 INR per day.

Meditation at Matrimandir

There is a well maintained meditation space available at the Tara Temple in Taramangaling at all times, on request. Meditation sessions at the Matrimandir have to be booked in advance through the visitors center in Auroville.

Spa treatments

During this retreat, massage services will be available at the local treatment center for an additional cost. Personal consultation, massage for injuries and better alignment and well being can be booked with Vincent Appel at Taramangaling. He is trained in mio-skeletal alignment technique, bio-dynamic, cranio-sacral massage, and acupuncture. He is also an instructor of Chi Kung.

How to get there

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Chennai International Airport (MAA).

Arrival by taxi

You may let Dance Routes know your date and time of arrival, and they can book you a taxi. The taxi will receive you and bring you directly to the retreat venue. The cost for the taxi is approximately 40 EUR.
