  • Eduardo Pimentel

Eduardo Pimentel is the president of the Cuban Yoga Association. He is also teaching and coordinating with Cuba Wellness Adventures for their yoga workshops. His humor and dedication are definitely an inspiration. He has worked for many years to help yoga flourish in Cuba and has trained instructors in all of the provinces.

Havana, Cuba is also a modern destination. El Vedado is the residential area with high-rise apartments, hotels, nightclubs, cinemas, shops, and Miramar which is the diplomatic and business district. But the real magic of the city can be found in the charisma and hospitality of the Cuban people. The city is a great attraction for its architecture, urbanism, cultural and social values. It also has the Este beaches, the La Havana Convention Palace, and many tourism infrastructures. Those attributes make it different from the other destinations of the whole country.

    Not worth the money

CONS Cons: Bottom line, not worth the money. At all. At the start of the program, there was no itinerary provided for the week nor did the guide provide any information on basic logistics on communication, transportation, emergency situations or even a map of the area. The guide also was unprepared and lacked basic information such as when places of interest were open. On two occasions, places were closed when we got there. Once, she even had three of us in a bike taxi made for two (I was half hanging out while she sat). Worse still, the guide was extremely passive aggressive and unprofessional. In Havana, she brought her children on part of the tour and in Santiago her husband and sister-in-law were staying with us, making me feel like I was intruding on their family vacation. On multiple occasions she whined about being tired and seemed very annoyed when asked to do her job. Once when I suggested she move her mat so someone else could fit in the room, she actually threw her mat and stormed off (She later apologized). It was only after reminding the guide that I would be reviewing the program that efforts were made to provide structure to the program, but even then the passive aggressive, insecure and unprofessional behavior continued. It had the potential to be good but in the end it was disappointing.

PROS Pros: Some of the yoga sessions were good, especially those taught by guest teachers. I also enjoyed exploring Cuba on my own and with a fellow participant. I liked having my own air-conditioned room.

"I am so grateful that Shoshanna was my travel guide in Cuba. Not only is she friendly, reliable and professional, she really knows the culture, land and people of Cuba. I really felt like I got to know the real Cuba, not just the tourist spots. I felt extremely safe and in good hands the entire trip. Plus, it was fun! I highly recommend her services. "

"I met Shoshanna about three years ago but I had the sensation that I have known her for a lot longer. It is always an honor to have her with us, not only as a yoga teacher but also as the person who is creating a bridge by connecting the North Americans who travel with her and us (the growing community of Cubans who practice yoga) making possible the exchange of culture, humanity, and spirituality."

"I had a wonderful introduction to Cuba with Cuba Wellness Adventures last month. Our group was greeted by the traditions of Cuba at every point. We were introduced to the cultures that have melded together to create a wonderful experience of Cuba at a turning point in time. We had yoga history and lesson from the president of the Cuba Yoga association. We were transported in fantastic antique cars on the Malecon to afternoon meals at local restaurants. Private dance lessons from La Professora made us feel like we had some moves for dancing at the Casa de Musica! Our pension hosts provided comfortable rooms and well preserved antique décor. We were introduced to the people of Cuba as they are, curious, fun, and resourceful with what they have. We saw firsthand how a simple human connection can transform perspective and open our hearts. I love the adventure of this amazing country! Thank you, Cuba Wellness Adventures for creating a fun and safe adventure. I appreciate how you care about our wellness and Cuba’s wellness, I’m glad to be a part of your vision! I would recommend it!"

"The fact that Cuba Wellness Adventures tries to connect with yoga communities outside of Havana and supports local growth is very good. This helps the communities who want educational, cultural, and spiritual exchanges. I appreciate Shoshanna's open mind and her respect for other cultures and their practices."
