During this yoga retreat, you will be staying at a shared residence.

This yoga retreat will be held in Tamarindo, Costa Rica. Tamarindo and neighboring beaches are consistently ranked among the best surfing beaches in the world. Moreover, Playa Tamarindo offers ideal conditions for all levels of surfers.

Costa Rica Surf Institute offers weekly yoga session every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday with a tentative schedule. Yoga classes help you to get additional flexibility, core strength, and balance in improving your surfing. Whether you are experienced in yoga, or you want to try it for the first time, you will be challenged with a combination of power, flexibility, and breathing exercises.

In addition to the yoga sessions, Costa Rica Surf Institute also offers intensive surf lessons and on site accommodation to beginner and intermediate surfers. You will learn about the ocean and wave science, surfing etiquette, surfboard care, how to read surf forecasts, and how to incorporate yoga and proper fitness into your routine.

Arrival by airplane

By far, Liberia Airport (LIR) is the easiest airport to fly into. It is located in Guanacaste, the same province as Tamarindo and Costa Rica Surf Institute. It is only a 45-minute ride from Liberia to Tamarindo. If you need to fly to San Jose Airport (SJO), it is only about a 4 to 5-hour shuttle ride to Costa Rica Surf Institute from San Jose.

What to bring

Costa Rica Surf Institute recommends you to bring about 100 USD in cash per person, for emergency purposes. In addition, you are suggested bringing a sunscreen and a bug spray on your retreat.

Passport / visa

You will not need a visa. However, you will need a valid passport and proof of a departure ticket before entering Costa Rica. Before departing, you will be required to pay a departure tax of 29 USD. This can be paid at major banks or at the airport.


You do not need typhoid, malaria, or any other common vaccinations before visiting Costa Rica.

Local expenses / money information

There are ATMs at banks such as Banco San Jose all over the country, where you can withdraw cash in either USD or Costa Rican Colones (CRC) at reasonable rates. Most businesses in Costa Rica will accept either USD or CRC.
