"Went to Om Shanti for and I wasn't disappointed. I had a beautiful stay in one of the huts that it on the beach, great place to wake up and have a coffee in morning, all the staff are really welcoming and friendly, and the food was amazing, so I will be going again! Great."

"We stayed in Om Shanti for January, but it was so good that we extended our stay until mid March. Several weeks in the beach front hut and later in the AC cottage. Rooms were comfortable and spacious and were cleaned on request. Staff here are all very friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Food was very good and waiters always remembered how we liked our food and drinks. We will certainly return to Om Shanti when we next visit Patnem."

"I came here listening to my heart and my intuitions, and with the intention to align my life and my soul. The course has given me the tools and knowledge I needed to continue on my way toward balance et inner peace. The professors are passionate, they inspire and they are present throughout the entire process. Life within a community creates the feeling of belonging to a family within which trust and mutual help are the rule. The intentions of this community are pure: to spread the science of yoga through ancestral traditions and to share our truths for more people to communicate with love and light in this world. Mazunte is an enchanting place, it is perfect for you to connect with nature and discover your true nature." website, edited

  • Review by Elysia Vetter from Seattle, WA

"As I reflect back on my time spent at Om Shanti after completing my 200 hour YTTC, I have only a few words that I feel best describe the experience; love, compassion, growth, and awareness. The maestros were amazing, full of knowledge, accepting, and inspirational. The community living met all of my needs. Mazunte is most magical. Highlights I would say were sunrise meditations, ceremonies, learning, and community living / sharing."

"If I had to suggest a couple of things to grow would be maybe to offer to give the option to include three meals a day into tuition for addition price or choose to prepare meals on own for price how it is now. I would have liked to not have to think about preparing / buying food while I was in my training and could have used this time for self-study / practice instead. The kitchen in the community space could have a couple more things on hand like blenders and maybe a couple more small tea strainers (maybe they have them now). Overall, I am forever grateful for my experience at Om Shanti and all the people who helped facilitate. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking to grow their self-practice in all aspects of yoga or to those who want the confidence taking their yoga to the next level. Gracias a Todo y Un Abrazo la familia OM Shanti!" website, edited

  • Review by Aya Bouchedid from Brooklyn NY, USA

"I will preface this by saying that I have never been the spiritual type or one to really be a girl's girl. But the girls and boy I spent that month with, as well as all of our teachers, will forever be part of me. I loved my YTTC at Om Shanti. I learnt something if not many things from every single student and teacher there. I learnt so much about myself. Not that I have the answers to life now but I am ok with not having them and still growing. "

"The course was very well structured - excellent schedule. I initially thought it had too long a break during the day, but I quickly realized I needed it. Waking up every day at 05:20 to make it to morning meditation became something I looked forward to after about a week. And, I have never been an early riser. Following meditation, we immediately went into two hours of Hatha yoga. Each class was different and we had three different teachers overall each with unique strengths."

"Boris is a phenomenon of nature and I seriously think he is one of the most amazing yogis around and he will teach you many classes. I can honestly say I never thought my practice would improve so much in only four weeks."

"I started off with a rudimentary headstand and by the end, I was able to do a number of arm balances and all without any pressure from the teachers or competition amongst the students. I have been practicing yoga for more than five years and there were more than one moment when one teacher showed us a different way of entering into an asana or said something about how the body should feel in it and in that moment, it clicked for me. And, so suddenly after working on an asana for years, within minutes I finally understood it and my body surrendered to it. It is an amazing feeling and I am so grateful for the teachers for that, Boris, Mario, Romina, and David."

"Following the one hour meditation and two hours of Hatha in the morning, we had a half hour to forty five minutes of karma yoga, which involves one of four tasks (one for each week as we are divided in teams). Do not expect to spend time teaching kids after school or volunteering with senior people. This is real on the grounds work to maintain the community (pick up garbage and recycling in a place, where it is not otherwise organized), serve our student group (making breakfast), cleaning the community where we live, eat and practice, and finally taking care of the grounds with gardening and the like. I enjoyed every single experience in ways I would not have thought possible."

"Often while one team was sweeping and the other preparing breakfast, we would all find ourselves breaking into a mantra from a previous night's bhajans and singing it altogether. That is another beautiful thing about Om Shanti in Mazunte. They are truly involved in the community and every Thursday night, we hosted a two-hour bhajans in the yoga shala. So many people came and without knowing one another, we were all lead into mantras by musicians who were either just in town, lived there, or were some of my fellow students. And, I hate singing in public. But, within the first half hour, I realized the joy that came with it."

"I have never experienced so much acceptance within a group spending all their time together, or within any group for that matter. There was so little judgment and it seems unbelievable to say, but it was an entire month with almost no gossip and amongst a group of mostly women. And, it was such a wonderful experience that I truly did not think was possible. And, I don't think it was a conscious decision. Between the vibe created by the Om Shanti community, the yoga we were doing, and the philosophy we were learning, suddenly it was like a zeitgeist and we all just did not complain, gossip, and I think overall greatly softened both our external and internal dialogue. "

"We, of course had theory courses which could be improved only in the sense that a lot of the materials were in Spanish, but that is in the process of changing. Another thing I would suggest is to really prepare for the theory classes the way you would prepare for a college course. That way there is not so much time spent breaking the teacher's flow by asking questions that are basic and already answered in the written materials we receive."

"That said, I enjoyed most all of the theory classes and we had an invited guest to talk about non-violent communication, which was amazing. We also had to make presentations in some classes, which was a great preparation to teaching our own class for graduation. In the evening, we had teaching methodology courses, which honestly were so important. And, they were really well done. In the end, I was impressed taking each of my fellow students' first class. Not to mention, all of the teachers became students that last week and took all of our classes. "

"I cannot recommend this course enough as an introduction to YTT. You will need to go further if you really want to teach which is not really about the school not being certified per say, but simply because one cannot truly expect to teach after one month of first teacher training. But, if you are not sure you want to teach and / or if you want a more serious yoga retreat than the one week ones offered on beaches, then this is for you. Not to mention wanting to make best friends for life. The love we all still feel for each other warms my heart and soul every day."

"I will always be grateful for Om Shanti for having welcomed me and taught me and showed me and introduced me to this wonderful world. I will end with this. Realize that the price you are paying for this YTTC is about a third of what it would cost elsewhere that is yoga alliance certified and yet, you get this professional training that will do wonders for your practice, your brain, and your soul. It is a first step if you really want to teach, but it is also a wonderful alternative to a regular yoga workshop." website, edited

  • Review by Nina Godesa from Ljubljana, Slovenia

"The yoga teacher training at Om Shanti in Mazunte was one of the best experiences in my life and I strongly recommend it. I learned a lot about all aspects of yoga, meditation, emotional release techniques, peaceful communication, anatomy, teaching methodology, selfless service, and living in a community. The community Om Shanti is in a wonderful place, yoga shala almost new and very cosy, and there is about five minute walk to a wonderful beach."

"All the teachers have a lot of knowledge and deep understanding of the yogic path, they teach from the heart and became friends with us. I enjoyed the bhajan circles in the community and delicious vegetarian food in the small restaurant, Prasad that is run by Om Shanti. I am very grateful for this amazing month and I am staying in the community to learn and grow more." website, edited

  • Review by Ariane Kulik from Albuquerque, New Mexico

"The Ayurvedic and massage workshops were very helpful and great introductions. However, I would recommend to anyone interested in Om Shanti to know some things. Nothing about how to get to the retreat spot was sent to me, nor was any other information without me asking for it. I think that there should be an information packet sent to people who put in deposits. I think that the people throwing the retreat should be more helpful in how to get there, i.e. offering to meet them in town etc."

"I got there the day of the retreat around noon and no one could help me to find a safe space to put my stuff, so I had to carry it with me until 4. When 4 o'clock came around, we had to wander around until someone offered help. The staff told us where the bathroom was and where we would stay. Never did they tell us about how to use the manual toilets (which I eventually figured out on my own with no help) and never were we told about about the ridiculous crime that happens on the property (I am aware of the crime rate of petty theft in Mexico)."

"We went to watch the sunset at a vista and afterwards were left to get ourselves back to the retreat space. It was then apparent that our guide didn't even live in the community that they was representing. When we made our way back, we found the electricity was not working and had nothing, but our flashlights to find our way around."

"This weekend was a celebration of the town's saint. It was incredibly loud and distracting. The parties went until four in the morning. Both the women throwing the event said they would have never scheduled this retreat at this time if they knew earlier. Once they had found out about this celebration they should have canceled this retreat. A retreat is a time or place to be away from the distracting life that surrounds us. I did not sleep any of the nights while I was there and I find that unacceptable. Retreats should not be held in the middle of a town, especially when there is a festival."

"The second day, I told the staff about the electricity to which they responded how that happens often and that we had to wiggle the plugs around. (What?!) I paid 750 Pecos a person (1500 Pecos) for three nights in this hut when the night before stayed in a Hospadaje for 160 for 2 people (about 500 Pecos) and had light whenever I turned on the light."

"Around 08:30, on the second evening, the staff tells us that people watch the place and know when someone new is staying at the grounds and that we should bring our things with us when we leave the property. I am aware of the petty crime that happens in Mexico, but when I pay for a space I expect it to be safe, especially where there is a community there that should help to watch your back. This night, I was scared because we can't even lock the door from the inside, yet I am supposed to keep my valuables on me."

"I also tried to let go of how little we were fed for the amount of money I paid. I found out that this community is based on conscious donation, yet, when someone pays an actual fee-, they can't even be served fruit in the morning. The Ayurvedic workshop was helpful, but I feel the retreat should have reflected what we were learning. We are told to never eat late at night, yet from 17:00 to 20:30 (best time to eat dinner), we were in class. When we were let out, the only options to eat was pasta or pizza (things no one should eat at night). I feel this whole retreat was based around what was best for Om Shanti and the retreat throwers, not the attendees, which is quite unwelcoming."

"All of this, I was willing to let go until I had come back from the last class of the third day of the retreat to find that my iPad, cellphones, and money was stolen while I was on the property! I took into consideration what the organizer had said the night before about the theft, but they had never said to keep my valuables with me, while I was on the property, otherwise I would left right away. This should have been one of the first things they had told me because if I had known how unsafe this property was, I would have never spent my money here."

"I am not a rich person and $330 is a lot of money for me, let alone the property stolen from me. When the staff found out about what happened, I heard someone whispering about how they had told us how dangerous it was, and left promptly afterwards. Excuse me, but if I lived at a place where the theft of property was a that likely, I would never asked someone to stay at my house, let alone have them pay to stay there."

"I would not recommend anyone I know to come to Om Shanti and I deeply regret having spent my money there. It really pains me to say this. I am not the type of person to write such a negative review, but I hope this can help someone in the future." website, edited

  • Review by Comuidad om Shanti's response to Ariane Kulik

"Hello, my name is David Callado Guerrero, I really want to apologize sincerely in the name of the Community OmShanti, for any misunderstanding but especially for the bad feeling that Ariane and Alex they have experienced during the Retreat."

"I want to apologize as well in the name of Mexico and the people that makes that many others get angry and afraid about being here."

"This is one of the things for what Mexico is known, for good beach, alcohol and insecurity."

"As a Mexican this is pretty sad and I really can understand the unmet need of Ariane and Alex, about being safe and relax in their own home."

"But believe me, in most of the places around the world it happens similar situations, maybe except a few lucky countries."

"The different teachers and members from the Community share about this happening all around the world. For example my mother had similar experience in Barcelona (Spain), The sister of Romina, one of the teachers of the retreat, was also experiencing the same in Argentina, me personally I have been theft in London, in India many times, in Mexico, in United States, and in Cuba."

"I mention all this to understand that the world that we are living is pretty hard in many ways, that will take us a book just to describe, but this will be to put an emphasis in the negative part of the life, which I agree it exists, but there is another that is beautiful, that is in harmony, that is at peace."

"We would love to receive some words from Ariane and Alex focused as well in our strengths, in the enthusiasm and love of the teachers giving a private retreat for them and taking care of most of the things they mentioned and that we would love to described in detail later on."

"I certainly believe that the Rose is made of thorns and beautiful petals as well, we decide which part of the flower to look upon."

"And for what is concern to us, we would really like to know if there is something we can do for Ariane and Alex to make their heart a little bit more at peace."

"We are always open to listen constructive criticism that help us to grow and of course is nice to receive some sweet words as well."

"Anyhow, from now, we would like to do an analysis of the email they sent part by part, hopefully to clarify this sad situation, is our more sincerely desire, that all the people when they leave their house Om Shanti, feel happy, relax, with and open heart and to share how we live here. (BYR: analysis of the email is sent to Ariane and Alex)"

"By their review we are sure our community and lifestyle is not properly described, and this will make that some future participants gets a wrong panorama about where they are coming,"

"For that I sincerely request from the heart to Ariane and Alex to check once again in their hearts and mind about the 4 Days Beach and Health Yoga Retreat in Mexico and to share one more time about their experience."

"We are sure that after the difficult situations happened and the emotions settle down, their feedback will be completely different."

"And to mention once again that we are open to hear their present needs and to do our best to fulfill them, hoping will be in our hands."

"Thanks a lot for your time and the opportunity to write our point of view and feeling about this experience from which all we learned for sure."

This is a shorter version, the complete version was sent to Ariane. website, edited

"If you are looking for a truly authentic yoga teacher training, Communidad Om Shanti is the place for you. The teachers are very down to earth, knowledgeable, and care about your experience and growth during the entire course. David, the course leader is an amazing person. He is extremely knowledgeable on the subject of yoga and is a very caring person."

"The course was not only just about the physical aspect of yoga, but it also focused on your own personal growth that developing more confidence and accepting yourself for who you truly are, which are some very important foundations for yoga teachers alike. David and all the yoga teachers facilitated many discussions and workshops to help the students develop this confidence, as well as develop spiritually."

"The course was mainly focused on Hatha and Vinyasa yoga. Because the course is a one month intensive, it sometimes felt that some subjects were rushed. Something that was lacking in the course was more time spent on teaching methodology. Overall, I would highly recommended this course to anyone. I do recommend that you go into the course with an open mind, an open heart, as well as a good attitude and patience, particularity when it comes to the organization of the course, because often there would be changes to the daily schedule and not everything went according to plan." website, edited

"I only have time to write a short review now, but I plan to write a full story for my blog and am working on that. This yoga teacher training was one of the most beautiful and life changing experience I have ever had. What started to me as just a way to get in shape opened possibilities that I never dreamed of. I explored myself and the nature of all being and healed in may ways."

"I made life long friends and deep connections, and I even had fun. If at all possible, I strongly recommend you to take this course; even if you have other plans, even if you have a job. Quit and go. You won't regret it. I will be back to visit as soon as I can. One love and namaste." website, edited

  • Review by Brieuc from Paris, France

"I had a great time these last four weeks in Om Shanti. This teacher training is a very intense experience that makes you look deep inside of you to really know who you are and what you are looking for. The lack of focus on a specific subject of the course and lack of advanced techniques is greatly compensated by the open heart of all teachers and the supportive community built with all students. The teachers literally lived with us. They are available 24/7 to answer any question or share their knowledge with us. This can be singing mantra, meditating, cooking, doing Hatha or any kind of yoga."

"We really felt as a family there, everyone going through their own experience, but all supportive and ready to go forward. Therefore, I think this YTTC is not addressed to someone who want to work on pure asana practice or deepen their yogic philosophy. It needs to be taken with an open heart and the will to include yoga as a full lifestyle, as that is what they taught us for these four weeks." website, edited

"I had the time of my life. A lot of personal development! I enjoyed everything about it. The teachers are dedicated, the yoga shalas are beautiful. Mazunte is a cool town. And, it is an adventure of a lifetime, it is not for weak souls, but surely for truth seekers and people who want to master the spiritual path." website, edited

"I am really happy after the YTTC. A lot of knowledge arrived to me from these amazing yogi teachers. I enjoyed the time that we shared in the community, it is a special place and we learned a lot from each other. The schedule was complete and well-balanced: meditation, asanas, pranayama, anatomy, philosophy, teaching methodology, and many practical tools to use in our daily life."

"Also, the collective work is a good way to practice Karma yoga! For all of the above, with this pure love in my heart, I send my best reviews to Comunidad Om Shanti and I would like to say thanks also to BookYogaRetreats for helping me connect with them. It has been really a deep holistic work for my entire being. Namaste." website, edited

  • Review by Tatjana from Zurich, Switzerland

"Yoga means unity. Unity of everything in you and around you. Of course, you can learn to do perfect asanas and believe that this is yoga, but are you really looking for this kind of experience? If not, than Comunidad Om Shanti is the right place for you. Here, you learn exactly what you personally need in this moment and stage in your life. Not only for becoming a yoga teacher, but also to transform your life in another way."

"David has created such a unique little place and you really feel that this is non-profit orientated as it is with so many other yoga schools these days. It comes from the heart and everybody who is involved is doing the best to create a good experience for you. I will always remember my time at Om Shanti as it was very special and all the people I met will stay in my heart forever."

"David, Pilar, Romina, Mario, and Boris are wonderful teachers. You will learn about pranayama, different asana styles, anatomy, meditation, Karma yoga, teaching methology, Bajans, to heal your inner child, and so much more. Just be open and even if it might seem that meditation every day at six is a bit strict, but you will benefit from it. My time at Om Shanti was the base on my yoga path, it was a good and solid base and everybody involved created a part of it. We are a new family, but also an old family." website, edited

  • Review by Jessica Laursen from Washington, USA

"My experience at Om Shanti was one of the absolutely most beautiful and life changing experiences of my entire life. David and the other teachers, Romina, Pilar, Boris, and the amazing light workers featured in their respective fields to come in and share with us, were incredible people. They created such a beautiful and tranquil space in which me (and I would seriously bet the other training yogis) felt safe enough to grow and open our hearts and push ourselves. Everyone evolved and deep healing happened."

"Healing, which I know changed the course of each of our lives. The teachers held such a good space. I always felt supported and heard. They are attentive, present, kind, patient, and genuine people. They remained professionals while also being their authentic selves and so we all got to connect and appreciate each persons different expressions and personality which allowed us to become family and share so much love and compassion."

"Honestly, I want to cry writing this because thinking back on my time during the course overfills me with joy and gratitude. David, Romina, and the other teachers are some of the most inspirational and truly good people I have ever met. Their intentions are pure. Their practice, and therefore their example, is very strong. I learned not only more asanas, mantras, anatomy, and history / philosophy of yoga, but also how incredible of a lifestyle it is to adopt fully."

"The deep inner peace I gained from my time there is one of the greatest gifts of this lifetime. All of us girls, it just so happened that no men signed up for that course, felt so close and loving of each other and I cannot wait to go back and visit them and probably live and share in the community again at some point in the future. When I think of community Om Shanti I think of love, peace, truth, spirit, and the real essence of yoga. If you have any questions about my experience, feel free to respond. I feel as strongly about this truth of OM Shanti as I do around my own family and will gladly do what I can to make known how truly amazing of a place it is." website, edited

"From November 14th to December 14th of last year, I became a part of the Om Shanti family. To say the least, the experience changed my life, and I will be forever grateful. Thanks to the guidance, support and love of my teachers, David, Romina, Pilar, and Boris, as well as my sisters, I feel so blessed to have spent one month in Mazunte with these beautiful people. The teachers had such a wide variety of knowledge and experience to share with us, and by the end of the month, I felt so connected to them all, in our own ways."

"If I ever needed to talk about something, David, Romina, and Pilar were always there to listen. For this, I was so grateful. Together, we all shared in a beautiful month. I have been traveling for six months now and without a doubt in my heart I know that my experience in the YTT shaped me to become a better version of myself because I was surrounded by so much love." website, edited

  • Review by Emma Gaskins from Alabama, USA

"I took the yoga teacher training at Comunidad Om Shanti not necessarily because I wanted to be a yoga teacher, but I thought it would be a good, positive, healthy experience for me. Of course, it was all of those things, but little did I know that they would change my life forever. Om Shanti YTT course teaches you about so much more than just yoga, and I am forever grateful to this place for opening my eyes and opening my heart."

"It was a deep inner journey where I healed wounds I wasn't even aware that I still had. Coming out of that month, I feel so healthy, pure, and healed. I have never felt better in my life. I am ready to get out in the world and share with others what I learned here. This is exactly what the world needs right now. So, if you are reading this right now, don't take my word for it. Come to Mazunte and see for yourself. I am fairly sure this is the best yoga teacher training in the world today." website, edited

"It was really amazing. The community was really nice, our three mains teachers (David, Romina and Pilar) are such beautiful persons, with a huge and pure heart. The lessons were very interesting, and various with anatomy, philosophy, asanas, meditation, breathing, relaxation technique, and non-violent communication. I think this information made me a better person, more conscious, more tolerant, more positive."

"It was an amazing journey, as much with the community than inside myself! I really recommend this TTC to each person who would like to learn about life philosophy of yoga. And, I am going to teach my first yoga lessons in Belgium from middle of February." website, edited
