Check-in Time:

Check-out Time:

You will be staying at Lanka Yoga, a retreat center whose every part of it was created consciously to support and give back to nature. The retreat center is located right on the lake and has almost an acre of lakefront property, full of fruit trees, giving thousands of mangos, jackfruit, rambutan, donka, papaya, and more each year. Its outside areas are grassed for play, relaxing and outdoor practice, as well as a beautiful large pool and grand yoga shala overlooking the lake surrounded by nature.

The retreat venue is located close to the first stretch of the famous surf beaches on the south coast of Sri Lanka, and five minutes away from Habaraduwa town, which has an exquisite white sand beach and crystal blue waters. You can access Kabalana and Dewata all-year surf breaks which are only 10 minutes away. Should you want to visit the closest city center, Galle, is only 30 minutes away and the capital, Colombo is only 2 hours away.

As the retreat center was created eco-friendly conscious, some parts of the property have been allocated to rewilding, letting nature take its course, encouraging good soil, planting local trees, and letting nature re-generate.

Water management and treatment:

Having noticed a lot of water usage, the venue captures and treats rainwater for use throughout, it also has water-saving taps and showers to reduce use, while all water heaters are solar. All wastewater is treated by an on-site treatment plant with a five-stage process that uses bacteria, aeration, and filtration to convert all wastewater into safe, nutrient-rich water for the garden. Doing this prevents any untreated water from finding its way into the lake, while helping save water, and grow the garden.

Power usage and solar power:

Lanka Yoga's first priority is to minimize the power used by the building through design and modification, secondly to remove unnecessary or inefficient lighting, and thirdly to use more power-efficient appliances. Next was setting up a solar power system to cover maximum power use. The venue set up an 11.5Kw system, in 2021, which is the maximum allowed, to cover about half of their full capacity power use.

Land management:

When designing the property, Lanka Yoga make sure to avoid removing green spaces and instead built the guest block underground to replant green space on top. By doing this, the green space and tree cover on the property haven’t diminished, and in the long term, there will be more. In the mismanaged jungle land they encountered, they are encouraging the wilderness through passive and active regeneration. They have planted more than 100 trees on-site and on neighboring public land.

Program

Are you ready to connect? When you are connected to yourself, you know who you are, what you want and your worth. And that you deserve it ALL! You know what you need to prioritize in order to live happy, balanced lives that benefit yourself and the people you care about. You know to invest your time and energy in things that are aligned with your true nature and in turn gives you satisfaction and fulfillment, which fuels and energizes you! Instead of chasing, you became MAGNETIC attracting everything you want to yourself. Instead of trying to fit in, you allow ourselves to boldly stand out and express yourself. The world needs your unique perspective and actions! This retreat's program is curated for you to achieve this through dance and yoga practices, along with additional mindfulness practices and experiences.

Dance is a powerful tool for connection.

Dance, is a very powerful practice to achieve this self-connection, self-expression and empowerment - rejuvenating us from the inside-out with long-term lasting benefits. Instead of receiving the benefits dance gives us depending on substances momentarily - in this retreat you’ll receive the guidance to obtain these benefits on your own and retain them - making them forever yours.

And you don’t have to be a dancer. Because not everyone is a ‘dancer’, right? Wrong..! %Dance has always been a natural part of human existence. Since the dawn of days, people have used dance to mark important occasions, celebrate, for battle, for ritual and prayer. It’s only in modern times that we’ve become so focused on the mind, that we’ve lost our natural connection to our body, heart and intuition. Dance is a natural form of human expression and has always been a part of us - it’s just a matter of having the right guidance to reconnect with it.

Although you’ll learn a bunch of dance moves, it’s not the point…

So even if you have 2 left feet and absolutely no coordination, and also if you’re confident in your dance - it does not matter! In this retreat, although you’ll learn various foundational dance techniques, nowadays popular dance moves, freestyle and dance choreography, the real goal is to use dance to achieve mind-body connection, authentic expression and self-empowerment.

This retreat also features: Vinyasa yoga, Yin yoga, breathwork, sound healing, meditation practices and more to further support your process and your journey.

Start leading the life that you want and that is truly yours.

YOU HOLD THE POWER.

About the Dance

The dance taught in the retreat is ‘Mindful Urban Dance’: a term coined by the lead instructor and co-founder EL, which is a compilation of foundational dance techniques, nowadays popular dance moves and Hip-Hop, with the emphasis on mind-body connection and self-expression.

It is not by chance that Hip-Hop dance is now considered the leading dance style world-wide, performed by top artists and used in movies, television and many other entertainment outlets, as well as on social media, where artists showcase their talent and amateurs have fun exploring this style.

Hip-Hop is a dance form that contains many dance styles within it and is founded by rich culture. Like anything beautiful and meaningful - this dance was created by ‘ordinary’ people who connected to themselves and to music, expressing authentically how it made them feel. So it welcomes ALL!

It’s first and most important value, originality and the emphasis on personal authentic expression, allows much freedom and room for you to be YOURSELF.

To discover how you feel-connect-express, to find your own unique way of moving. All while being supported and celebrated by others for your individuality!

No mistakes just discoveries - which is how many dance styles were even created. It is also why anyone, including YOU, can do it!

The co-founder and lead instructor, El, has over 30 years of professional training in all leading dance styles, as well as many years of living and exploring Hip-Hop dance and culture in the U.S.A first-hand both personally and professionally.

Along with a wellness mindset, the dance taught in this retreat is a uniquely crafted dance based on El’s experience and knowledge, curated for you to connect to yourself and find YOUR dance.

With bumping energizing music, interesting flows of versatile dance techniques, beautiful surroundings and a safe judgment-free environment, you will gain the confidence and skills to truly express yourself, while having lots of fun doing so!

Food

You will be served a delicious Michelin Star chef-designed vegan menu, utilizing as many local and homegrown ingredients as possible. The food is Sri Lankan fusion, as the hosts believe you should eat the food of where you are, although better if it’s somehow more familiar.

The kitchen is open plan in the villa’s main living area: the cooks are on display as they prepare all meals. A merge between a commercial and a local kitchen, meaning food can be cooked, baked or made almost in any way, but still have a homecooked taste.

Michelin chef Elspeth Humm designed the menu and trained the kitchen staff. The venue worked with Elspeth to develop a specific, repeatable, seasonal, and health-focused menu, that contains as much as possible from the garden. In combination with the excellent local staff, you will experience her incredible menu coming to life every day of your stay, promoting a detox both mentally and physically.

In-house Grown Food

The venue contains more than ten fruit trees, including: jackfruit, mango, coconut, donka, rambutan, curry leaf and more which is used throughout the year. To expand on this, the team has planted many more of guests favorites trees such as like Papaya and Mangosteen, and have a broad veggie and spice garden which feeds everyone in the venue throughout the year.
