After his intensive, nine week teacher training with Bikram Choudhury in Honolulu, Hawaii, Zeb set out to travel and bring the gift of yoga and health to as many people and places as possible. As a former junior hockey player who could barely touch his knees letting alone his toes, Josh was dragged kicking and screaming to his first Bikram yoga class by his wife, Jenna. In 2016, he became a certified Mindbody consultant, created the first online course for yoga business called The Foundation, and launched the powerful onsite Studio Overhaul program. While business coaching with studio owners all over the world, it has been awesome to see them spread yoga to more students and get the compensation they deserve.
Jenna had been practicing yoga on and off for years, but never fully committed to a practice until she took my first Bikram yoga class while attending graduate school. After finishing her Master of Arts degree in English Literature, she made a 180-degree turn and went from academia to Bikram yoga teacher training in Acapulco in 2008. Ready for a change and to test her belief in non-attachment, in 2015, Josh and Jenna decided to sell their successful yoga studio, house, and all their belongings to travel the world with their kids and teach yoga on the road as the Nomad yoga family.

Michael founded the Yoga Dealer brand in 2005 and his DVDs, CDs, and posters are used by practitioners worldwide.
Aching with back and joint pain, Gianna followed a friend’s recommendation and took her first yoga class to end her sedentary living. After just a few weeks of practice, her pain dropped. Within a year, she was off all medications; at two years, she began advanced asana training; and by year three, she certified as a teacher. Thirsty to know, she went full time studying, teaching and practicing the 26 + 2 series, Ashtanga yoga, theory, philosophy, and anatomy. She sees more clearly by the light of her teachers, Mary Jarvis, Emmy Cleaves, Saraswathi Jois, and Leslie Kaminoff.

Casa Om sits about 200 meters away from the beach in Puerto Morelos, a quieter town between Cancun and Playa deal Carman in the Mexican gulf. The property, purposefully remodeled for yoga, is attended to by Jorge, Lerika and Melissa, who are friendly and helpful and do everything they can to make you feel at home. Yayo the chef and his team prepare the most wonderful breakfasts and dinners and serve them under the Palapa (thatched roof) at the top of the property. The food is vegetarian with some fish, and might be inspired by Mexican, Italian or middle eastern cuisine. There are fresh juices at both meals and breakfast might have eggs or beans alongside generous helpings of fresh fruit. If you like a little heat the chili is never far away. Yayo's food is so good that when we had the 'opportunity' to eat out on his night off, the resounding view was that we'd sooner be eating Yayo's. More than one of my fellow yogis took home a copy of his recipes, in a small book for USD 20.
The accommodation at Casa Om ranges from double en-suite rooms to dormitory style (I got lucky as the only single male and had a room to myself). All the rooms have with air conditioning and ceiling fans as well as access to fridges and coffee machines. There is an endless supply of delicious drinking water. A large enclosed sitting area occupied the second floor, forming a great social space later in the evening when it is too cool to sit upstairs. The property is decorated with Buddhist, Sikh and Mexican art. There is a small swimming pool (ideal after practice cool-down!) and a fish pond with a resident Terrapin and a small lounging area behind.
The yoga studio is on the third floor. It has capacity for about 40, with mirrors along the front wall and windows to the rear and right hand side. The studio uses propane heaters to produce heat and the sun also provides direct warmth in the morning and late afternoon. The floor is concrete with a wood-effect vinyl which works well, and there are only a couple of pillars that are thin enough not to be an obstruction. Being close to the sea makes the air heavy and ionic and the studio is very humid as a result. There are 6 ceiling fans which help to relieve the effects of this, but I still found myself sitting down more than I would in my home studio.
The property is very popular, deservedly booking up more than a year in advance. It is owned by Hargobind and Siri Om Khalsa who own the Pure Om hot yoga studios in Virginia, and they have clearly taken great care in establishing Casa Om as a premier retreat location. I joined a retreat run by Ian and Jenny from Detroit Bikram; the day after I left Mary Jarvis was arriving to run a retreat. A quick look down the list of upcoming events shows just what a wide range of studios are now using Casa Om.
The location at the edge of Puerto Morelos means that you can tailor your retreat to be truly abstemious ( ignore town and turn left on the beach) or to be more of a yoga-holiday (or holiday-with-yoga?) The beach is long and sandy, and in my experience safe to walk before dawn or after dark. Having come from the UK, it was quite natural to wake before dawn, and one of my favorite pre-practice routines was to walk on the beach as the sun came up, watching Pelicans and terns catch their breakfast. There are a few places on the beach that offer massage or alternatively you can book treatments through Casa Om. While I didn't take any treatments, the breath work and re-birthing was talked about very highly in my group, and there were also classic massages and even a workshop extolling the virtues of the kao-kao bean. If you thought that Chocolate and yoga don't mix then you've missed out on all of the medicinal benefits of the pure bean! We were fortunate enough in the last night to be led through a gong meditation by Jorge. My recommendation would be to jump at it if you get the chance - the gong amplifies the natural energy of the n overseas and penetrates deep into the body, producing a deep restorative meditation.
If you prefer a holiday-with-yoga approach then the staff at Casa OM can help with the latter by arranging a range of activities. Various of my group took part in snorkeling, Cenote visits (try zip-wiring into a Cenote in the jungle!), diving, cultural trips to the Ruins of Mayan cities of Tulum and Chichen Itza and retail therapy in Playa del Carmen or Cancun. For a more relaxed holiday there is a beach club just across the road (turn right on the beach instead of left) with chairs and umbrellas to hire and a broad range of drinks and food.
If you venture into town (10 minutes walk) you can find a range of foods with both authentic and westernized Mexican foods, pizza and pasta, a wide range of seafood and Uruguayan and Argentinian cuisine. There is a variety of cafes and bars around the village square and a number of beach bar/restaurants between Casa Om and the village square. The square itself hosts an evening market, dances for the locals, community events and entertainers. Expect to be serenaded at dinner and to tip for the privilege, and look out for the group of Mayan artists who perform a fire ceremony, and in my opinion were best of the lot.
Some of the bars and restaurants have live music. I arrived on a Saturday night and, in search of authentic Mexican, sat down in El Sabor de Mexico. I had the best shrimp Ceviche I have ever eaten and washed it down with Dos Equis. The surprise of the evening was a great blues player and his band, enthusiastically supported by ex-pat retirees and snow-birds alike.
If you want to take home something for a loved one you can find a wide range of traditional Mayan crafts (think hammocks, dream catchers, woven bags and blankets), Mexican artisan products (for example chocolate, silver jewellery and natural beauty products) and standard tourist fair such as tee-shirts and hats. I bought a hammock (I went for cotton not nylon) and a woven bag, but waited until the airport to buy a tee-shirt for my 5 year old. However, since the town is a working town there is also a Pharmacy, a doctors and a number of small supermarkets.
Personally I would put my experience in the middle of the retreat/holiday spectrum. I drank less alcohol relative to a standard holiday, took 14 classes and only ate meat on one of Yayo's nights off when we took a trip to the Argentinian restaurant. My practice improved dramatically, I feel stronger and more connected than ever before. Taking everything together, this was the most relaxing holiday I had in over three years. While I know that a good part of that is down to the people on this retreat (our group was very well balanced and I have made some wonderful and special friendships) and while I can't guarantee your group I doubt that any yogi would fail to be happy with Casa Om. I would be first to sign up with Detroit Bikram next year but unfortunately they haven't managed to get the UK half term week this time. I expect I'll be gatecrashing someone else's retreat, in the knowledge that Casa Om will provide another great vacation.
Casa Om is a very pretty and pleasant small hotel. The service was nice, the food was delicious and I particularly appreciated the hotel's efforts to be environmentally conscious by using solar energy and maintaining guests' comfort without being wasteful, i.e. not needlessly changing sheets and towels every day, asking guests to be mindful of energy consumption by making minimal use of air conditioning, and offering healthy vegetarian meals made with fresh local ingredients. This is a great place to practice yoga and enjoy a little bit of Mexico in a quiet place right by the beach. If I had one quibble it would be that the rooms are not very insulated from sound, so if you are sensitive to this, it might be a good choice to book a room that isn't right by the front door or other high-traffic areas. I definitely recommend Casa Om!

Casa Om is the perfect place in Puerto Morelos for a Kundalini yoga retreat. The food was delicious and beautiful, full of prana. The rooms are peaceful and clean, the yoga room very nice! Most of all the staff at Casa Om are attentive, kind, sweet, strong (Saibhang) Wahe Guru!

Went as part of our Pilates' studio retreat. Far exceeded expectations. Location in a non touristy, beautiful, Mexican beach town. Gorgeous home with well appointed rooms. Jorge and Lerika were fabulous and took care of us all. Yayo's food was healthy and tasted divine. Had wonderful Pilates sessions and CasaOm provided exceptional yoga everyday, on the beach and in the studio. When we overbooked Britta for massages during the week, they brought in Fabienne so everyone could get the massages they wanted. They were both fabulous. Everyone was so friendly and I felt truly connected to the people and the surroundings. I can't wait to go back next year!! Highly recommend as part of a group, or even going solo for a weekly retreat. It is heavenly!

It is hard to put into words what a wonderful experience I had at Casa Om. Our Pilates studio, Studio BE Pilates, hosted an incredible retreat at Casa Om. The staff is the epitome of efficient, professional and delightful. The food is unbelievable! A great place to recharge! Can't wait until our return next year! Thank you all for the wonderful care you took of us!

I stayed at Casa Om as the head of a yoga retreat group I led in March 2016. I have been leading retreats all over the world for more than seven years and I have to say that our stay at Casa Om was incredible. The managers, Lerika and Jorge, made the whole experience so easeful and comfortable. The food was amazing. The yoga studio is quite lovely. The location is sweet. Yoga students would walk across the street to the beach or walk to town for lunch. Everything is accessible, safe, and clean. I cannot say enough how much I loved Casa Om. Oh, even the little store is full of sweet malas, lotions, and clothing at a remarkable price. You will never regret your stay!

Casa Om is lovely! It's a block from the beach, within a quiet neighborhood below Cancun. The house itself is wonderful, the staff and chef on site are spectacular. There are many places to sit out and read in the shade or in the sunshine, with a breeze blowing away any mosquitos or excess heat. There is a yoga room that comfortably fit all 20 people the week I went. Overall, I highly recommend staying here if you're looking for a yoga filled, completely relaxing trip!

This was the best way to start fresh off for the year. I have been an active Bikram Yogi for a few years. I was plagued with tough times in 2015 and Casa Om was my escape. The owners, who own my studio in Fairfax, are incredible people and wonderful teachers. Practicing yoga on the beach was a completely different experience itself. The environment at Casa Om can allow you to find relaxation and to de-stress. I made friends there and truly enjoyed every minute there. I plan to go back in the next few years.

The house and rooms are clean (I stayed in a large single room with private bath and it was well worth the extra money), the staff great (thank you Lerika & Jorge and everyone else!) - they try to help in any way possible to make your stay relaxing and carefree. Very nice amenities are included in the rooms - I wouldn't have bothered to bring things like shampoo, conditioner and body lotion had I known how nice the items they provide. I knew they provided drinking water but was concerned it may be limited - that was not the case - there are large water dispensers in the rooms.
I met great new people and the food was wonderful - the chefs are wonderful and very accommodating to different dietary needs. Initially I thought not being on the beach would be disappointing, but its a quick walk across the street. Puerto Morales has a very calming and safe feel to it; its a short walk (8-10 minutes) into town.
Jorge treated us to a kundalini session on our last night - what a treat! If you have a chance to attend one of his classes, do yourself a favor and go - it was awesome! It would be very nice if Jorge's classes were offered more regularly during the retreats - it was so soothing. The yoga space is big and clean, mats and props are provided. The staff will wash your yoga clothes daily, so you don't need to take too much yoga clothing. Wi-Fi is free but seemed a bit spotty, at least on my ipad - I had better luck on my phone. I really can't say enough good things about Casa Om - one of the best vacations I've been on in a long time!

Once again Casa Om exceeded all expectations! This was my second trip to Casa Om and the staff, food, and rooms were perfect for our week-long getaway. It is an easy beach or window shopping stroll into town and the warm waters of the Riviera Maya cannot be beat.

There are so many superlatives I could give for Casa Om. Everything was just perfect. The retreat center is filled with great details, inviting little nooks to just chill, as well as spacious spots to hang out with the group. The staff was always available and friendly, the food over the top amazing. The sweet little fishing town of Puerto Morelos was such a welcome oasis from all the business of Tulum and other popular spots.

We hosted a 75 hour teacher training at Casa Om in January and had the best time ever! The accommodations are lovely, the food is uh-mazing, and the staff is accommodating and helpful. The studio space was spacious and equipped with all of the props we needed for our daily practice and training, blocks, blankets, mats, mat towels, etc. The location of Casa Om is ideal, as it is quiet and tucked away down the road from the busier part of town. We loved every moment of our stay.
The planning process was made easy by the awesome staff at Casa Om, the owners, and their lovely event coordinator. Thank you to everyone who made our stay a beautiful one! Nos vemos.

An amazing place to stay at- the staff was just fantastic, the food was absolutely delicious and the rooms were really nice. Loved the hammocks and the fish pond with the turtle. It is two minutes from a beautiful beach and a nice beach bar. I went with 105 feet and enjoyed every minute!

My stay at Casa Om was amazing! The staff was wonderful. The food was amazing! The on sight yoga studio was perfect. And the beach was so close and beautiful. Perfect place for a vacation or to host a yoga retreat. I highly recommend Casa OM. Can't wait to go back!

What a magical and peaceful place to spend a week! We were there for a yoga retreat through Stil Studio in Boston and I couldn't have imagined a better week! Casa Om is beautiful and impeccably set-up, from the heavy, carved wood doors to enter into space to the little koi pond by the room I stayed in with a happy turtle, the lovely yoga studio to the breezy rooftop kitchen and dining area. Everyone there was amazing. Lots of love, light, and gratitude to Siri Om and Hargobind for creating a true gem in Casa Om, Melissa, Lerika, and Jorge for all their bright smiles throughout the week, and Yayo and his crew for the super delicious vegetarian meals! Thank you! Location is also great, and the beach, just a block away, in Puerto Morelos is gorgeous and quiet and uncrowded.

Casa Om is a great yoga retreat perfectly located at the far end of the amazing and peaceful little town of Puerto Morelos. Although not located on the beach and something I thought would be a downer when I first booked, I quickly was at peace with the location upon arrival as it is less than a two minute walk from the Caribbean Sea, which is also visible in a spectacular fashion from the main hot room on the second floor.
The establishment was clean and well kept. The staff is very friendly, and the owners are nice and helpful. Although I am not a Bikram yogi, I was pleased with the teachers and the personal lessons/tips that they have given me. Especially Hargobind, who is very passionate about what he does-thanks again friend. Not only did I take interest in a new practice, but this Bikram workshop has definitely helped me improve my everyday practice. So if you are not a Bikram kind of yogi, give this retreat a try anyway.
Although the overall experience was amazing and equally relaxing, I felt slightly uneasy by the fact that the schedule kept changing. I believe it was done for good reasons and the majority of the people were consulted in regards to those changes, but it felt like it was hard to keep track, especially if you were gone for a swim. Also, if you have a peanut allergy, let them know. Finally, the food was fantastic. Divers, healthy, fresh, filling, and served by truly friendly people. All said and done, I recommend this retreat to anyone who seeks a peace of mind experience in a sweet and calm location among great people. Thanks again for the awesome journey guys!

Casa Om provided our family a fantastic vacation experience that everyone enjoyed for different reasons. Getting three teenagers to agree on anything, particularly when away from their friends, is nearly impossible, but Casa Om pulled it off. First, it must be said that we worked for over a year to prepare the kids mentally for the hot room experience, with each of them having at least one hot yoga class and all having several regular yoga classes. We thought we owed this to fellow yogis.
Our almost 14-year-old boy loved the excursions and inversion class. Our 15-year-old girl loved the vegetarian food and kundalini class. Our 18 year old loved the beech yoga and kundalini classes. We all loved getting ice cream in our walks into town. The ambiance was fantastic, and of course, my wife and I loved having everyone happy and together for a week of fun, sun and zen.

This is a very relaxing and welcoming place for a retreat. The owners and staff have thought of everything and go out of their way to make your time at Cass Om as relaxing and restorative as possible. In addition, Cass Om itself is well maintained, clean, and beautiful. The yoga room is absolutely lovely as are the rooftop dining area, the pool, and the garden. I highly recommend Casa Om!

Casa Om is a healing place and nurturing space. The building itself is a thoughtful four-story eclectic blend of rooms, with people from all over the world. It is across from the Unico Bar, which allows for good beach access and volleyball and coffee. You can go on retreat, or when they have "open season." The point is to be supported in your journey, no matter what your path is. The beds have wonderful mosquito netting, allowing you to keep the doors open, and the luxurious beach towels are appreciated, as well as the 5 gallons of purified water in each room.Yoga classes are open to the group and community, so it's a nice blend of people. Participate as much or little as you like, there is no pressure here. I had some of the most inventive and fresh vegetarian food with home-made juice in the morning; in the evening, there was more delicious food than one could eat. These are true chefs that delight in the spectacular. All the amenities were available from Wi-Fi to room safes to swimming pool. This place helps you remember what life is about.I wouldn't hesitate to go again. I was doubtful at first due to the limited number of rooms, and I'm not a big fan of small venues, but it's worth a trip. Just make sure you tell the cab it's across from Casa Blanca and kitty-corner to the Unico Bar. Even if you sign up for a retreat week, you can participate at your leisure. No dogma or pressure - just great, thoughtful hospitality!

The owners and all the staff were so friendly! They went above and beyond their jobs to make me feel like I actually left with new friends! Went to Casa Om for a Bikram and vinyasa yoga retreat at the beginning of Sept. It was very hot even outside the hot room, but very relaxing and a great vacation. The instructors are top notch and Casa Om is newly renovated. You can handle yoga twice a day. Go on the retreat and you will surprise yourself! The property is near the beach, but most folks lounged in the onsite pool or took leisurely walks to town. There will also be options for excursions which I would recommend the cenotes.
Do not be alarmed by the vegetarian only cooking, the chef is very good and opens your eyes to many tasty and filling options. Fresh fruits and juices are an added bonus at breakfast! People come from all over the world to Casa Om, so also be prepared to make new friends! Do not forget the rooms are shared doubles, and you will not know who you are rooming with unless you come as a pair. Bring a reusable water bottle seems obvious, but not on one of the packing lists I received. Bring bug spray or insect repellent options and cortisone if you come during the summer season. Also, no need to over pack, the staff launder your yoga clothes daily. The house has teamed up with a couple local massage therapists and healers if you have a chance to get a massage with Britta, take advantage! She is the best thorough and adaptable to your needs!

I would have to admit, going for one reason, make a memory with my now fiance was well worth it. This establishment is amazing and the food was great. Casa Om is a specially built hotel for yoga retreats. It has all the amenities for a great retreat. We had wonderful, healthy meals prepared by the staff and served in their dinning area on the roof, with a spectacular view of the town and beach. The staff was more than great, they took care of us like family. The travel and massage service booked through the hotel was excellent. The location is close to many interesting sites, but is not directly in Cancun, so there is not the crowds.

My daughter and I just returned from a week at Casa Om. What a wonderful experience. When my daughter suggested we do this yoga retreat together I was quite skeptical, I had never done yoga before.Well this past week was an absolutely fabulous experience. From the moment we were greeted and stepped through the door we felt welcome and "at home". The staff was wonderful and the home was so clean and tranquil! We settled in for a week of yoga, relaxation, wonderful food and sunshine! I was encouraged in every yoga class and felt happy and satisfied with myself! The food and accommodations were excellent and the weather picture perfect. There were interesting options for us during the week by the way of trips, workshops or massages. There was time to walk around and explore the town, we felt very safe there.Overall a perfect vacation. We returned refreshed and relaxed. I would not hesitate to return to Casa Om, the owners have put their hearts and souls into this beautiful place and made a perfect place to have a healthy and relaxing vacation. Enjoy being a traveler, instead of a tourist in this charming little town. From the yoga room to the rooftop patio for delicious food made by super chef Jajo to a stroll downtown for fresh baked goods, this place is a jewel in a touristic area. Thank you to all the staff for a fantastic stay! Your kindness and hospitality are appreciated.

My first trip solo. By far the best trip to reconnect with myself. And the best trip ever. Got into a yoga retreat that was held on this site. You must go visit the cenotes pushed myself out of my comfort zone of fear of heights. What a feeling!

I had the good fortune to spend New Years 2014 at Casa Om with my daughter. We were so pleased with the entire experience. First, the facility is beautiful, comfortable, and welcoming with free Wi-Fi, a pool, and easy beach access. We shared a cozy room near the Koi Pond. Maid service included laundry, and it was speedy and well done each morning while we were at beach yoga. Your room has air conditioner and includes purified water and coffee / tea, as well as a small refrigerator; lotion, shampoo, conditioner, and soap are provided. Second, the food is delicious, tasty, and creative, served on the beautiful rooftop. My only comment here is to bring your own snacks as we were hungry between meals. Third, the yoga classes, both on the beach and in the beautiful hot room, were wonderful and appropriate for any level. I really improved my practice with the small classes and posture clinic. The teachers are great! Fourth, the little town of Puerto Morelos is so nice - not touristy and not crowded - nice little restaurants, bars, and shops. The beach is beautiful! Fifth, our fellow yogis were all so nice and interesting, from all over the country, and very friendly. Everyone got along. Finally, the extras are nice too. We were treated to a free concert in the yoga room. You can purchase massages, healer sessions, and excursions. We did the Cenote trip, snorkeling and Tulum - all fun! You can pay in dollars or pesos.

I woke up this morning and was sad it was not still Casa Om. This was a magical and privileged experience in so many ways. If we had stayed at a resort, we would not have made so many wonderful friends. It was almost like going back to university days and getting to know strangers more intimately and openly in a way we do not experience as grown ups. Many of us walked away knowing we'd stay friends for the long haul after the week ended. Thank you Hargobind and Elizabeth so much for giving us an opportunity of a lifetime to treasure. The food was fantastic. Chef and staff were friendly and amazing to all of us.
