Karma yoga

Karma yoga, or skillfulness in action is a the perfect way to let yoga support you in all you do. At Casa Cuadrau, you are invited to practice Karma yoga, by helping in simple tasks in the house, like cooking, cleaning, or gardening for one hour a day, in a mindful, sensory, and integrated way.

Satsang is a gathering time, with the projection and revision of images in a group environment. It starts with a time for discussion and inquiry, questions, and answers, based on the direct experience of all participants. It finishes with a silent meditation.

Joyful silence

Every day, from the end of the evening until after breakfast the following morning, a joyful silence will be cultivated in the house. This deep silence is very healing for calming the mind, and allows you to be in peace, so that you can listen deeply to yourself.

You will have a restful sleep and the next day enjoy the silence with mental clarity for your asana practice, meditation, and the nourishing experience of a silent mindful meal, at least once a day. Each person participating in this period of joyful silence will be supporting each other in the practice.

Photography workshops

Photography is an everyday activity that becomes an extension of your senses, in connection to the world around you. You take photographs every day in order to share the things that capture your attention, the things that provoke memories or represent your vision of the world, and you take photos of the things that catch your eye, even when you don’t know why, but you want to be able to look at them again and again.

Photography has a particular way of enabling you to enter into a very special relationship with the here and now. It provides you with the opportunity to experience the emotional and aesthetic elements that connect you as individuals with your surroundings.

The intention of this retreat is to offer you the space where you can experience this connection by capturing and reviewing photographic images in your active photography workshops, in combination with the practice of yoga and meditation.

What you gain from the photography work

  • Identify the aesthetic and ethical complex that photography facilitates
  • Develop creative and contemplative awareness through photography
  • Understand the different elements involved in the process of taking photographs
  • Connect with the personal processes involved in interacting with the environment
  • Develop photographic techniques based on specific needs

"All in all a very joyful, mindful, beautiful experience. I'm still reaping the benefits. An excellent way to reconnect with oneself, with others, and with nature. You really have thought about everything, beautifully balanced to enable enough freedom, as well as an opportunity to learn, and grow, and stop, and think, and reconnect. Thank you!" website, edited

I would definitely recommend this experience to anyone who wants to take some time out for themselves, to reconnect with their being or simply to relax and enjoy themselves and the special place that is Casa Cuadrau. The classes are incredible, the hiking excursions are magnificent and filled with unexpected beauty, the food is healthy and delicious ... the whole experience is a sensory delight! The bird song, the flowing water, and the scent and colours of the abundant forests all fill your heart with energy and life, enabling you to breathe in harmony, serenity and fulfillment. THANK YOU DANI AND KATYA for making this weeks holiday a very special one. "My husband and I had never practiced yoga or meditation before going to Casa Caudrau, so you can imagine we were a little apprehensive after booking the retreat this May. With an open mind, we arrived at a stunning location and were welcomed by an amazing and inspirational team in Casa Caudrau. The combination of practicing meditation, trekking, yoga, silence, satsang, good eating and meditative walking will stay with us ever! After leaving the retreat, we have kept up a lot of these practices in our everyday lives (as well as trying out some of the recipes) and we wouldn't change a thing about the experience, it was inspirational and life changing! Both the retreaters and the karma yogis were truly inspirational, but above all, we offer a huge thank you to Katya and Dani who have opened their home and hearts and are passing on their knowledge and teachings of meditation and yoga. This is an experience I would recommend to anyone especially if you are new to retreats; it is truly a life changing experience!"

"I was like in a family of like-minded people with whom I felt all the time enriched, having, at the same time, the so much needed space for inner reflection and silence. Katya and Dani have created a wonderful place of self exploration and growth close to the grand master - nature - and within a community of people that are both wise and warm and above all, so authentic in their own yogic pursuit." website, edited

It was obvious that so much love, care and attention has gone into the house, the restaurant, and retreats, and it is such a beautiful and special place that it was impossible not to enjoy and learn on the retreat, and come away with such a profound sense of happiness and well-being. "Go to Casa Cuadrau was one of my best decisions if not the best in this year so far. The location is absolutely fantastic, high in the mountains and part of a small remote village. The accommodation is perfect and the retreat itself was well-balanced. Enough free time to enjoy and enough guided activities to really feel youre being supported in your journey. The meditative walking in the morning was for me an additional attraction to sign up, and it was simply beautiful. The culmination was the two-day trekking, challenging but so rewarding. And Im not sure whether I just got lucky with the group, but it couldnt have been better. A wonderful week which brought me home full of energy again. I would recommend it to anyone who likes hiking and wants to retreat from regular life with daily doses of healthy food."

"My wife and I chose the intensive yoga and meditation retreat because we both wanted something to shift our individual practices. Mine being far less than my wifes, at only 1 hour before we came to Casa Cuadrau. The shift in Yoga happened and we both are still practicing most days, which has had such a profound impact on our lives. Our diet has changed and now we are vegetarian and we are both meditating daily. The shift for myself in meditation was very important to me because I used to meditate daily throughout my 20s but have not done so for the last 12 years nearly. A surprising thing that I was presented with, was my fear of mountain walking. This did however, present me with a new challenge and once overcome, I found a new love and confidence to walk in the mountains where I was at first too fearful to go. Overall, a wonderful experience which we have shared with many many people since our return and we look forward to our next Casa Cuadrau experience."

"In July 2014 I had the privilege of spending a week at Casa Cuadrau on a Yoga, Meditation and Hiking Retreat. Casa Cuadrau is a truly magical haven set in a breathtaking landscape in the Pyrenees close to Monte Perdido. On arrival you immediately feel the energy, passion and generosity of spirit with which Dani and Katya have renovated the house in which to welcome people to do yoga, meditate and enjoy the sights and sounds of the very beautiful Pyrenees. The week was a perfect balance of yoga, meditation, swimming in clear blue rivers, singing and hikes which were brought to life by Danis extensive knowledge of the local area, its nature and its history. I cannot recommend Casa Cuadrau and Dani and Katya more highly. It is an environment full of support, love and laughter and I came away feeling calm, re-invigorated and with definite plans to return to this paradise again in the future."

"Nestled in a beautiful spot in the Pyrenees, the magic of Casa Cuadrau was evident from the moment we arrived. For me, however, the thing that made the retreat experience so magical and unforgettable was the open and down-to-earth nature of the wonderful hosts, Katya and Dani. They passed on their yoga, meditation and hiking practices with patience and passion, tailoring the sessions to suit the needs and energy levels of the group. Nothing felt like a chore, and everything felt like an adventure. I couldnt help but come away inspired to integrate the principals of yoga into my everyday life. One of the most prominent images I am left with from the retreat is that of Katya and Danis infectious smiles which greeted us on the first day, radiating a warmth which tells you to make yourself at home. Casa Cuadrau is a home in every sense of the word and one which I intend to return to time and again."

" It is difficult to find words to describe the experience of our week in Casa Cuadrau. Before arriving I was a bit worried if I would cope with the intense programme, at the end of the retreat we did not want to leave!! The meditative walks in the morning were fantastic!Every day Daniel (who really loves nature and the mountains and canyons) would take us on different path, one more incredibly beautiful than the other And, Katya is a patient and skilled yoga teacher, she started with the basics which was exactly what I needed. Food was delicious, and not being able to access smart phone and computers was also a much needed detox. At the end we were all asked for feedbacks and suggestions in a very open and constructive manner, no dogmas at Casa Cuadrau, but lots of passion! On the last day we felt like we were leaving two friends we had known for years... " website, edited

"My week at Casa Cuadrau was simply amazing! Escaping the fast paced city for a much relaxed experience in the mountains with views that cannot even be explained will be something i will never forget. Waking up early every morning didnt bother me when there was so much to do with the meditation, yoga and workshops, so much fun!The food was also incredible thank you Anna, Gara and Kelly simply amazing! My most enjoyable experience would probably be hiking the Ordesa National Park, very exhausting but very rewarding thank you Danny for your super long hikes. I will never forget the enchanting echoes of the cowbells that sounded like wind chimes amongst the picturesque mountains just incredible. This experience has taught me a lot about my mental and physical strength and endurance especially after hiking that huge mountain the view was the most rewarding and having lunch there was even better! I have learned a lot from this trip and can take what i have learned and practice in my own time so thank you so much Dani and Kalyani! Looking forward to my next visit already."
