Yoga styles

Dynamic Vinyasa yoga is a flowing practice, synchronizing breath and movement (Vinyasa). It is regarded as most effective in increasing health and fitness, harnessing vital life-force (prana taken in primarily through the breath), stabilizing emotions, and supporting a stream of consciousness that leads to greater mental stillness and focus.

Yin / Restorative yoga is a slow-paced style with poses or asanas that are held for longer periods of time. In Restorative yoga, props are used to support the body so that you can hold poses longer, allowing you to open your body through passive stretching.

Kundalini yoga is called the yoga of awareness. It is a dynamic, powerful tool that is designed to give you an experience of your soul. In Kundalini yoga you harness the mental, physical, and nervous energies of the body and put them under the domain of the will, which is the instrument of the soul. It brings balance to the body, mind, and soul.

Yoga Nidra or yogi sleep is a sleep-like state, which you experience during meditation. Yoga Nidra, lucid sleeping is among the deepest possible states of relaxation while still maintaining full consciousness

Pranayama are breathing exercises which clear the physical and emotional obstacles in your body, to free the breath and so the flow of prana - life energy. Through a regular and sustained practice of pranayama you can supercharge your whole body.

It is a natural protected nature reserve where you can go to view wildlife and take boat rides in to the mangrove swamps. The biosphere is a two and a half hours' drive from Shambala.

Cenotes

Cenotes are natural groundwater pools, in many cases where sections of cave roof have fallen in to reveal an underlying cave system and the water flow. Gran Cenote, Dos Ojos, and Escondido Cenotes are all within an easy distance of Shambala and are beautiful and unique places to visit. You can go swimming in Cenotes, snorkeling, and if you are qualified and experienced; cave scuba diving.

Chichen Itza

This is another spectacular archeological site. Merida and Celestun are also an easy travel distance from Tulum. Tulum beach is very safe and secure; you can walk during the day or at nighttime without any problems.

Coba archeological site

Is a large ruined city of the pre-Columbian Maya civilization based in the jungle. A portion of this massive and impressive site has been cleared from the jungle and restored by archaeologists, and it is now easily accessible to tourists. Local guides are available at the entrance to the site, as well as bicycle rentals to get to some of the further ruins.

A smaller theme park based around Cenotes, which features sky-bicycle, canopy, zips line, cavern, snorkeling, etc.

Tulum ruins

The site opens at approximately at 8:00 a.m. and closes at 5:00 p.m. The compact site is beautifully situated on 12 meters high cliffs overlooking the sea. It is one of the best-preserved Mayan sites and the third most visited in Mexico. It is easy to walk around the ruins in an hour.

Valladolid

Is a small but bustling Mayan city situated approximately 90 minutes drive from Tulum. Many of the local townspeople still wear the typical Mayan dress and sell local handicrafts. The church of San Gervasio overlooks the main square, and the town is a great place to try out typical Mexican food and get a genuine feel for the real Mexico. Dzitnup Cenotes are also close by.

"Caroline is an excellent yoga teacher. I loved this retreat as her classes are dynamic and fun. Her teaching style is energetic and clearly instructed. Great for those who are new to yoga and those who are more advanced in their practice. She gives clear instructions and is very attentive with her adjustments to help develop the poses. The entire week with theme and focus flowed well and a good variety of poses were included, combining the more traditional asanas with some newer ones. Carolines classes are the perfect balance of poses that firm up and help develop what you already know while pushing us, that leaves you feeling like you have worked hard. This retreat has left me feeling rejuvenated and relaxed. Thank you, I will be coming back again and again!"

"As a very inexperienced yogi, I was quite apprehensive about a whole week of increasingly advanced classes. My worries were entirely unfounded. The classes were challenging but fun. Caroline led each of us, at different levels, with warm enthusiasm and encouragement!"

"Dear Caroline. I just want you tell you in a few words how I felt during our private class. You were very understanding of my energy, giving me enough rhythm and movement to make me awake and not be frustrated in difficult postures as you made them feel so smooth! You made me feel and trust that I can push my limits and stay grounded as well. The class made me more centered and aware as you brought me to a beautiful state of mind where I could totally let go and relax at the end. You have the softest smoothest energy your touch is exactly felt when needed. This is how I felt during your class and after that I was speaking to everybody from a different place. Thank you!"
