It is hidden away as a jungle gem, but has many options for nearby activities and entertainment. The retreat center is located close enough to the town center for all conveniences, and yet tucked away enough in a quiet jungle corner to support deep and sacred study.

In this immersion program, you will meet all Yoga Alliance standards and beyond. There will be instruction on methodology and techniques, effective sequencing practices, postural alignment, pranayama, philosophy, sutras, history and lineage, meditation techniques, subtle and gross anatomy, injury prevention, effective modifications and special populations, planning workshops, practice teaching, effective equipment use, hands-on adjustments and assistance, and the business of yoga.

Before training

  • You need to have a pretty solid personal practice prior to starting the yoga teacher training as the contact hours will be physically and mentally demanding. You should have a minimum of one to one and a half years of established Hatha yoga practice and an interest in deepening your study of it.
  • Please see the recommended reading list. Although these sources are not required homework they will be reference during the course of the training. If you are familiar with them it will be helpful to your learning path and development as a yoga teacher.
  • Please plan to practice two to four hours of asana daily. The remainder of the hours will be made up of study, workshop, collaborative projects and practice teaching.
  • After sending in your initial registration request and form a representative from the Caribe Yoga Academy will be in contact with you within three to five business days with your acceptance or details about any further information needed. As long as you meet all requirements and agree to the terms and conditions, in most cases you will receive acceptance.

During training

  • There will be some non-contact hours required but they should not accumulate to more than two hours daily in the program.
  • There will be a minimum of two hours of asana practice daily during the yoga teacher training and a maximum of five hours of asana daily. The remaining hours will be made up of workshop, group work, practice teaching, and study.
  • You will have the opportunity to actually practice teaching classes. In fact, it is a requirement of the Yoga Alliance that you should gain hours with actual live teaching experience.

After training

  • The Caribe Yoga Academy seeks to maintain an on-going support system and connection with all graduates and students. They look forward to hearing about and being involved in their students' present and future yogic path. Be sure to get added to any social media groups, blogs, and mailing lists. Also check in about future opportunities to assist or guest teach.
  • You will be qualified to register as a 200-RYT upon successful graduation from Caribe Yoga Academy, but registering with the Yoga Alliance is a separate process and may be done directly through their website. It is not required, but it is highly recommended.
  • If you lose your certification, you may contact the Caribe Yoga Alliance for a new official copy of your Yoga Alliance approved certificate. The certificate will be mailed once the certificate replacement fee is received.

Certification

With successful completion of all program requirements and the final exam, you will receive a Yoga Alliance-recognized 200-hour yoga teacher training certificate which qualifies you to lead group asana classes according to the Yoga Alliance standards.
