This retreat will be filled with a synthesis of instruction, hands-on projects, excursions to permaculture projects in the area, and a comprehensive design project based on a piece of land that you own, or on a hypothetical ideal property for your “dream” homestead. This will be a highly practical and empowering immersion course that will equip you to move forward with creating your own permaculture homestead.
You will be staying at the Canción del Corazón Wholistic Lifepath Center. Cancion del Corazón translates to “song of the heart”, as our quest for human evolution arises from listening and expressing our heart's calling.
they have cultivated the three-acre property to be a living demonstration of “eternaculture”, which is the weaving together of permaculture principles with abiding spiritual awareness and holistic wellness lifestyle.
The center is entering its 7th year of development; and your stay there will give you an opportunity to feel the harmony and delight of living within a thriving permaculture system and experience the reality of sustainable healthy living with solar energy systems, rain water catchment, wastewater bio-remediation, garden to table meals, and pristine Andean mountain air and water.
The center offers a range of accommodation options from economical covered tenting sites (bring your own tent), comfortable shared accommodations with shared bath, or deluxe private with private bath. All rooms are eco designed, with comfortable orthopedic beds and high quality linens. All accommodations have access to kitchen facilities and outdoor living spaces to relax and enjoy the beauty and tranquility of this paradise.
Each day will have two facilitated sessions from 09:00 - noon, and then from 14:00 - 17:00, for a total of six hours per day. You will also share three meals together each day, for another two to three hours of conversational questions and answers session, and casual discussion.
The content of the course will include an overarching spectrum of permaculture topics but will be responsive to your specific interests and / or personal project requirements, which you will identify on day one to then become a recurring emphasis for the rest of the program.
This retreat will take place in Vilcabamba, Ecuador. Vilcabamba is considered a jewel in the crown of the Southern Andean mountain range of Ecuador, about five degrees south of the equator. The climate is commonly referred to as “eternal spring”, with both a dry and wet season, though temperatures are always moderate.
Long known also as the “valley of longevity”, and "the playground of the Incas”, where Incan royalty would go for rejuvenating retreats. This theme carries forward to present times, as its healthy environment energetically supports self development and spiritual awakening.
The Vilcabamba town center is located to a 20-minute walking distance and is a social center for many travelers. You can find international cuisine along with local fare, and local markets of tropical fruits and vegetables. Vilcabamba is nestled on the edge of Podocarpus National Park, where stunning vistas, wilderness hiking, and horseback trail riding adventures await.
You will have three delicious garden to table meals per day during the retreat.
Please book your flight to arrive at Ciudad de Catamayo Airport (LOH). There are both a morning and an afternoon flight. Canción del Corazón Wholistic Lifepath Center can arrange for a taxi to meet you at this airport and bring you to Vilcabamba for 40 USD or you can also find your way by local bus which will take you about 90 minutes.
If you choose to travel overland, there are bus options from all over the country. From Quito, you may take a bus that will take you about 12 hours by for approximately 18 USD, or you can choose a deluxe sleeper style night bus for approximately 40 USD. From Guayaquil, you may take a bus that will take you about eight hours by for approximately 15 USD. From Cuenca, you may take a bus that will take you about four and a half hours and you will need to take a different bus in Loja to transport you to Vilcabamba.
There is a shuttle van that leaves every afternoon from Hosteria La Cigale for about 16 USD which takes you directly to Vilcabamba.
