Treat yourself to a stress-free weekend of inspiring yoga, calming meditation, relaxing yoga Nidra, amazing vegetarian food, and guided outdoor walks in the hills and by the sea in wonderful Ireland. An ideal weekend to let go of the stresses and strains of everyday life. Spend this time in a very peaceful and tranquil environment with a gifted teacher and share memories with like-minded people.
You will be accommodated at the Burren Yoga and Meditation Center during this holiday. You will have the possibility to choose from a shared room, a twin or a double room, and a single private room. The center can sleep up to 21 persons, but for the retreats, the maximum is 15.
The beds have been individually handed carved by their local carpenter Johnny Ray. The shared accommodation has bunk beds. These are not the usual bunk beds, the top bunk bed is hand carved and suspended from the ceiling. The lower bunk bed is completely independent of the upper bunk bed with plenty of headroom in between.
The mattresses are very high-quality orthopedic mattresses, with a top layer of memory foam, ensuring one of the most comfortable nights of sleep. The bed linen is high thread count Egyptian cotton and lovely to slip into after a full day of yoga, meditation, outdoor activities, amazing vegetarian food, and laughing and socializing with like-minded people. All the beds are freshly made up before you arrive.
You will be supplied with a bath and hand towel. All the bedrooms have underfloor heating and are warm and cozy even in the winter time. The center has four shared bathrooms, each with a shower, hand basin, and toilet and an extra toilet shared between the 15 retreat participants. They do not have any en-suite bathrooms at the yoga center.
This retreat consists of an inviting and uplifting timetable of classes taught by the very experienced yoga and meditation teacher Lisa Petersen. Lisa is a very experienced yoga teacher and also a trainer on different yoga teacher training courses. She brings a depth of knowledge combined with a very clear understandable way of teaching, delivered in a humorous, caring, and attentive way.
Lisa gives variations on postures so that her classes are suitable for complete beginners, while those more experienced practitioners will be given variations to be challenged and also inspiring teaching to help bring understanding and insight into the practices.
This weekend is suitable for all levels, from complete beginners to advanced, including yoga teachers and regular practitioners. There is no comparison made between people and each person practices at a level which is appropriate to them, at the current point in time.
You will receive the right level of information that you are ready for and the inspiration to take up yoga as a daily practice. You will deepen your understanding and practice and you will be inspired to dive deeper and let go of your inner sense of freedom, grace, and love that is within.
This yoga weekend will include yoga postures and flowing sequences, breathing exercises, guided relaxation, and mindfulness meditation techniques. The morning yoga and meditation classes are followed by a hearty breakfast and then a guided group outing. The afternoon class is a great way to let go.
Some classes will have standing postures and challenging movements, while other classes will be more gentle, restorative, and more about letting go and living in the present moment. By the end of the weekend, you will be familiar with many new techniques and practices that you can bring to your everyday life.
Helping out with the washing up after meals is part of a much bigger aspect within yoga known as Karma yoga, where one does tasks mindfully, observing what is arising within, and uses the opportunity to identify any negative reactions or obstacles inside. This is one of the first steps in learning how to let go of your inner obstacles in order to get more in touch with your inner joy and happiness.
Asanas are yoga postures. Vinyasa yoga is a series of flowing movement sequences coordinated with rhythmic breathing. Together, they develop steadiness, strength, and vitality, as well as fluidity, ease, and release. As a result, you will feel more at home in your own body.
Truly, deep relaxation is an art in itself. Guided relaxation is a simple way to access that state of letting go. You will tune into your deepest intentions, needs, and desires, and your body will have more energy to heal and regenerate.
Your thoughts are like clouds being blown across the sky, or like projections on a movie screen. Even when the weather or the movie changes, the sky is always there and the screen remains the same. Yogic wisdom says that there is a peaceful, unchanging matrix that supports and sustains everything else.
Learning to observe your thoughts in meditation is a way of getting to know your true self. Your awareness increases, which naturally leads to a healthier mind and happier choices in diet, exercise, lifestyle, and relationships.
You are always breathing. Yet, like waves on the shore, footprints or snowflakes, each breath is unique. Paying attention to your breathing is the easiest way to connect to yourself because the breath is the invisible bridge between the body and the mind. Yoga teaches practical, accessible techniques for finding, observing, and balancing the breath. Consciously tuning in this way gives you a tool to calm your mind. In this way, a sense of balance is available in every breath.
On Saturday, you will enjoy a guided outing around the area of Burren. Dave, who founded the center in 1999, will bring you and the rest of the group to a special location within the Burren hills or else besides the sea. The time spent in the beautiful surroundings of the Burren area is guaranteed to leave you feeling rejuvenated, refreshed, and full of energy. These outings are fun, and a lovely way to get to know the other participants on the retreat.
Lisa Petersen came across yoga in 2000, in India. She was captured by the ease, grace, and peace of yoga and it has become a central part of her life since then. During her time in India, Lisa also began practicing Vipassana meditation and naturally began practicing both yoga and meditation on her own terms. Prior to her time in India, Lisa studied communications and has a natural gift of communicating and inspiring others in her own way and with a warm sense of humor. Nowadays, she is involved in teaching yoga and also training yoga teachers to deepen their own practice.
During this retreat, you will be staying at the Burren Yoga and Meditation Center, in Kinvara, Ireland. The center was designed and built using timber-framed buildings, which have ceiling and floor windows that provide passive solar heating and amazing views over the Burren Hills. The buildings are super insulated and also have underfloor heating throughout so that they are warm and cozy all year round.
The Burren is located on the Wild Atlantic Way, on the west coast of Ireland. The Burren is steeped in ancient history and the Poulnabrone dolmen is over 5000 years old. The area is known for its huge numbers of ancient stone forts, dolmens, wedge tombs, and thousands of ancient monuments. From the Burren rock, you will see the wildflowers, experience the silence, and truly appreciate the beneficial effects this special place on the west coast of Ireland can have on you.
