Accommodation

Check-in Time:
19:00
Check-out Time:
14:00

The new centre, now named Burren Bliss, is three times the size of the original centre founded in 1999. Yet, they still only have a maximum of 16 guests, so each person has over three times the space. It was completed in June 2021 and guests can now enjoy the luxury of this new state-of-the-art retreat centre.

Burren Yoga has a wide range of ensuite bedrooms and budget sharing rooms to choose from:

Ensuite bedrooms

The ensuite bedrooms are all very spacious, very bright with a large triple glazed window, super-insulated so they are warm in winter and cool in summer, and with underfloor heating and excellent soundproofing. They also have an air ventilation system that continually brings in warm freshly oxygenated air.

The beds are all extremely comfortable, with hotel-quality mattresses, Egyptian cotton bedlinen with high thread count, and a choice of a firmer pillow and a softer one.

All of the ensuite bedrooms have a small writing desk, a comfortable upholstered armchair, a hair dryer, a bedside reading light, electrically controlled blackout blinds, a bedside locker, a bedside USB charger, and ample storage shelves and a rail to hang your clothes or coats. They also all have a heated towel rail and a spacious shower with plenty of hot water.

The ensuite bedrooms also have the convenience of being in the same state-of-the-art building where there is also the yoga studio, massage therapy rooms, dining room, tea / coffee making station, social lounge, quiet lounge, and reading area.

  • Ensuite single bedrooms
  • Ensuite twin bedrooms
  • Ensuite super king-sized double bedroom
  • Ensuite triple bedrooms

Budget bedrooms with shared bathrooms

The budget bedrooms are in the older accommodation bungalow which is 30 seconds' walk from the newly built retreat center building. The size and comfort and quality of the budget rooms are simple with shared facilities. They don’t have many of the features or comforts that are in the new ensuite bedrooms.

Yoga studio

Burren Yoga has the most inspiring yoga studio flooded with natural light and designed according to sacred geometry. It can feel as if you are practicing in the clouds, with amazing views from all three sides.

Watch the fluffy clouds lazily drift overhead through the huge roof windows, or lie back and watch the stars at night. When you enter, you can feel the amazing energy.

The yoga studio was designed according to sacred geometry. Sacred geometry exists all around, creating the fundamental structure and templates of life in the universe. This ancient science is used to create the best possible energetic spaces for one’s spiritual and mental well-being.

The ancients considered the experience of sacred geometry to be essential to the education of the soul. These spaces are conducive to higher consciousness and self-awareness. Sacred geometry amplifies your connection to spirit, and creates harmony within yourself, and between yourself and the outside world.

It is often called “sacred architecture” because it underlies everything and is woven into the fabric of all creation. Sacred geometry brings about certain effects of healing, harmonizing, and rebalancing on all levels. It connects the inner and outer, uniting all.

Burren Yoga has woven into this sacred geometry a huge amount of natural light.

There are ceiling to floor triple glazed super insulated windows on two full sides of the yoga studio, and another huge window on the third side, all providing beautiful natural light and stunning views over the Burren hills.

The place also has six huge triple glazed windows in the roof, providing views of the clouds drifting overhead, and the stars at night.

As throughout the whole centre, there is underfloor heating in the yoga studio, so you can lie on your mat and feel the warmth coming up through your body.

Since Burren Yoga is also committed to your safety, they have built the safest possible environment to practice yoga and meditation. The studio has a warmed fresh air ventilation system. This massive-sized dedicated heat recovery air ventilation system sucks any stale air out of the yoga studio, and brings in warmed fresh air on a continuous basis.

Dining room

One of the very important ingredients on the retreats is the famous amazing vegetarian food. You will eat breakfast and dinner in the dining room. There are also teas, coffees, and the chef’s homemade fermented drinks as well as fruit and snacks available at all times in the dining room.

Lounges:

Silent lounge

Sometimes it is lovely to simply sit knowing that nobody will talk or disturb you and that you may relax in silence. Possibly to read a book. Or maybe to just relax quietly.

Reading area

Tuck yourself away and enjoy a book about yoga or the Burren from the library.

Social lounge

The social lounge has beautiful views over the Burren hills. This is a lovely place to put your feet up, relax and socialize and get to know the other guests.

Massage therapy rooms

The massage rooms are spacious, bright, and airy with electric blinds on the windows, so the room can be as bright or as dark as needed. Owner Dave has hand-picked the best masseuses so you are always guaranteed a very good massage. The air ventilation system continually brings in the fresh air, and you can also open the windows if preferred.

Grounds

Burren Yoga is located in the legendary landscape of The Burren on the West coast of Ireland. The Burren is all around you where there are:

  • Spectacular-shaped limestone hills that are ideal for hill walking
  • The Burren wildflowers which include a range of 26 wild orchids as well as other wildflowers
  • The Atlantic Ocean and Galway Bay

Burren Yoga's recipe is simplicity delivered with authenticity, passion, and love. They work with the hazel wood and the natural surroundings, as well as the Burren rocks that have created very simple areas where you may sit and relax.

The grounds are left reasonably wild and natural and are an extension of the natural landscape of the Burren. Please do not expect a manicured garden or even any garden similar to a town house. Enjoy the natural beauty’ of the Burren.

There is also a picnic table and during the summer, guests sometimes eat outdoors. This side of the centre is southwest facing so it gets good sunshine throughout the afternoon and evening.

Quality yoga and meditation retreat

Carmel teaches both Vinyasa flow and also Yin yoga. In her Vinyasa flow classes, one’s focus is maintained on the breath and coordinating the breath with the flowing movements.

Carmel’s Yin yoga is more relaxing and restorative. The flow class in the morning will start with pranayama (breath practice) to ground and center followed by Vinyasa flow sequences. Vinyasa means movements with breath making yoga essentially a breath-focused movement practice or moving meditation.

Poses will be taught from the foundational level up with sound anatomical principles so new students can work safely to explore or more experienced students can deepen their practice. Sequences will flow from simple to more energetic. This class will tone, strengthen, and increase flexibility. The class in the morning will be more energizing and in the afternoon more relaxing on this yoga and meditation retreat. Carmel’s soothing voice will encourage each person to challenge themselves in a safe way while she keeps an eye on each person to ensure they are practicing correctly.

The Yin class will consist of long-held seated poses where poses will be held typically held for two to four minutes to access the body’s connective tissue. This stretches and tones ligaments, joint capsules, tendons, bones, and all the body’s fascia preventing inflammation and improving mobility. There is a meditation class in the morning and evening each day, and one of the benefits of this week-long retreat is that you can then take these practices home with you.

A lovely combination of classes, outings, and amazing vegetarian food on this yoga and meditation retreat. All classes, outings, and meals are optional, so you are free to join all or some as you please during the weekend.

However, over 95 percent of people relish the freedom of not having to decide or choose what to do each day and go with the full program which is a well-tried recipe that they have been running and improving on since 1999.

This Hatha flow yoga and meditation retreat is suitable for complete beginners to intermediate. Carmel will give more gentle variations to anybody who needs it and will also challenge those who are ready for it. There are no comparisons made between people, and this course is suitable for everyone.

Retreat location

The Burren Yoga Retreat is located at the foot of the Burren hills, nestled amongst the hazel trees. There, you will be surrounded by a vast choice of special places in the Burren where we go for hill walks, nature trail walks, walks by the sea, beautiful beaches, and forests to explore. There are lovely places to swim in the sea or in a nearby lake which heats up during the summer.

Many guests are astounded by the spectacular scenery and the richness and variety that the Burren has to offer. The spectacular skies and the ever changing light attract many artists from all over the world. There are lovely beaches for swimming as well as one of the Burren lakes just down the road from the Burren Yoga Retreat where guests often go for an early morning swim.

A place to relax and rejuvenate

The Burren limestone hills have an ancient feeling. There is a sense of peacefulness and the silence is very noticeable, especially to guests who live in the modern, fast-paced world.

When spending time in the Burren, one feels peaceful and relaxed. The expansive horizons where one can see for miles bring about an exhilaration and a feeling of openness and freedom, and of course, a sense of well being.

The Burren has a very slow, easygoing pace of life that is very conducive to a stress-free type of living.

Spectacular landscape on the west coast of Ireland

The Burren is an area of spectacularly shaped limestone hills, which plunge down into the Atlantic Ocean on the west coast of Ireland. The Burren is a ‘UNESCO World Heritage Area’. It is famous for its wildflowers and botanists from all over the world come to the Burren to see the wide range of orchids as well as all the other wildflowers.

There are relatively few people living in the Burren and the landscape has not changed much in the past thousand years.

Stunning biodiversity

The wide range of wildflowers attracts many types of butterflies and insects which in turn support a wide range of bird life. The wild goats play an important part in the biodiversity and they keep down the scrub and hazel trees so that the wildflowers can flourish during the spring and summer months.

The limestone hills heat up during the summer months and slowly emit their heat over the winter months. Combined with the fresh warm air blown in over the gulf stream, this produces a very mild climate in Winter. It is often five degrees warmer in the Burren than in Dublin during the winter. The Burren is the only place in Ireland where the farmers leave their cattle outdoors during the winter.

The sea is noticeably warmer than the east coast, and many swimmers look forward to refreshing swims on the retreats.

Arrival by bus

The nearest bus stop is in Gort village which is 6 miles from the Burren Yoga Centre. The recommended bus companies (faster, cheaper, toilets on board) are Go-Bus or Citylink. Do not take a bus to Kinvara. The Burren Yoga Centre is 5 miles from Kinvara. From Dublin International Airport (DUB), it is recommended to take the bus direct from the airport to Galway city rather than traveling into Dublin city. From Shannon Airport (SHN, if your flight arrives very early, it is recommended that you take the Bus Eireann number 51 bus direct to Galway city and to spend the day there.

Arrival by train

Although the train is slower, more expensive, and much fewer times to choose from than the bus, some people prefer to travel by Irish Rail Train. From Dublin take the Galway train as far as Athenry, and then change trains. From Athenry take the Limerick train as far as Gort.

Arrival by taxi

There is only one taxi driver in Kinvara, and he often has his phone turned off, so it is possible to get stranded in Kinvara. Go to Gort instead, as Gort has many taxi drivers and a taxi from Gort costs approx 12 EUR.

From Shannon Airport (SHN), the reduced fare taxi costs 60 EUR and the taxi driver will team you up if anybody else is flying in close to your arrival time. You need to book this taxi yourself at least 24 hours before you arrive.

From Galway city, the reduced fare taxi costs 40 EUR and the taxi driver will team you up if anybody else coming from Galway close to your time. You need to book this taxi yourself at least 24 hours before you arrive.
