Come and join this Iyengar yoga retreat where you will stay in a beautiful Portuguese Quinta on the edge of the picturesque village of Columbeira close to the Silver Coast. In this retreat, you will practice asanas which will help your body develop flexibility, strength and stamina. And, by cultivating the body, the mind can become clear and quiet. Guests will stay in a beautiful Portuguese Quinta (country house) in double or single rooms. There is capacity for up to 18 guests.
Iyengar yoga is a dynamic and physically intensive form of yoga in which correct alignment of the asanas (postures) is important. This practice allows the energy to flow freely through the body. The practice of yoga will give strength and flexibility to the body and more peace in our mind.
The roots of Iyengar yoga originated in India and were founded by BKS Iyengar (1918) who was a student of Sri T. Krishnamacharya. All our Iyengar yoga teachers are fully qualified and have done several years of teacher training.
Iyengar yoga is suitable for all levels. In addition to yoga workshops, we also give weekly classes. Asana practice is a big part of each yoga class. By practicing asanas, the body develops flexibility, strength and stamina; and by cultivating the body, the mind can become clear and quiet.
The property is located on a spacious plot at the edge of the small village of Columbeira and is surrounded by lush green hills. There are several hiking trails in close vicinity. This area of the coast is easy to reach from Lisbon by public transport and car (about 40 minutes). Several budget airlines fly from different parts from Europe to Lisbon, which makes this long weekend yoga retreats a perfect getaway.
It is possible to have the option to go surfing for extra charge as there are plenty of surf spots to be found within a short drive from Buddha Retreats, from gentle beach breaks at Baleal to the fast and hollow waves at Supertubos. Most spots are just north or south of the fishing town Peniche, situated on a small peninsula with waves all year round, with bigger swell sizes in autumn and winter and smaller swells throughout the rest of the year. Due to the shape of the peninsula, there are plenty of options for just about any swell or wind direction. You can reach more than ten surfing spots for all levels - from beginners to advanced surfers - within a short drive from Buddha Retreats. Buddha Retreats takes the food very seriously here. As part of all the yoga retreats, they provide you with daily delicious and healthy meals. They serve an abundance of locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables, often coming from their own garden or the local markets. The menu is based on the philosophy of whole foods, so they avoid processed foods and preservatives.
In the morning, Buddha Retreats will serve you a healthy and energising breakfast which includes fresh fruit, homemade granola, freshly baked bread and banana bread among other things. Depending on your yoga schedule, you will enjoy a delicious lunch either at the Buddha Retreats house or they will give you a packed lunch that you can enjoy at the beach.
After an active day, they will serve a dinner on the terrace enjoying the sunset or indoors in front of the crackling fireplace. During the warmer periods, Buddha Retreats triesto do a seafood BBQ with fresh caught seafood once per week. The other meals will be vegetarian. As part of these retreats, you can enjoy fresh coffee, herbal teas and purified water as much as you wish. During dinner time, Buddha Retreats serves Portuguese red and white wines.

Once you have left the airport, take the E1 towards the north (Norte) and then follow the signs that say IC17.
After a few kilometers, you need to stay on the right lane to get on the A8 motorway (direction Norte) that takes you to Columbeira.
For around 70 kilometers, you will stay on the A8 motorway until the exit Carvalhal / Delgada.
There, you will leave the motorway and turn immediately right driving parallel to the motorway.
After a few kilometers, comes a sign on the left towards Rolica where you need to turn left.
After around 2 kilometers, you will pass a petrol station on your right side.
Stay on the road until you see a white rock on the right side of the road that has the number "2" on it.
Turn left immediately and follow a small road driving towards the hills.
At the end of the small road, you turn right into a very narrow street and after 100 meters, you will have arrived at Buddha Retreats on your left.
It is advisable to either type in the retreat's address into your navigation or look up the route on Google Maps before leaving: Rua Salvador Carvalho dos Santos 7, Columbeira, Portugal.
Several budget airlines fly from different parts from Europe to Lisbon. The closest airport to Buddha Retreats is Lisbon Portela Airport (LIS) which is 75 kilometers away. The Portuguese national airline TAP has flights from all major European cities to Lisbon and there are numerous budget airlines with flights.
If you visit during peak season (July to August), it is advisable to book your flights early as prices tend to be fairly high in those months. If you fly from any of the following places, it is recommended to check the websites of these airlines for available flights.

Once you arrived at Lisbon Airport and picked up your luggage, you need to take a taxi to the Campo Grande bus terminal which is only 2.5 kilometers away from the airport. There is a taxi stand just outside of the arrival area.
From the Campo Grande terminal, buses leave frequently to Bombarral (around 45 minutes) where you get picked up. You can download the bus timetable of the Rapida Verde bus from Lisbon to Bombarral from the website of Rodotejo.
Please inform the organizer of your time of arrival to arrange for pick up. This pick up service is included in the price.
